Ahh yes, the Heat. We have just had a very long, hot and extremely dry summer in Perth West Australia with temperature above 40c an not a drop of rain save for the occasional thunder storm somewhere far from me.
I'm afraid the folk back home in the UK would be dropping lie flys in those temperatures.
Having said that, we actually have rain forecast over the next 3 days, not that I expect much rain.
Talking of wealth. Well as you said, it's meaning is different for different people.
For me the meaning of wealth is, family, friends, live experienced. When you're on your death bed, those are the things that will matter and give you comfort in those last momments. All the money in the world all the material possessions won't matter.

I was In Asia this time last year. Sweat was pouring out of me from just sightseeing.
I know it gets to you this time of year., probably some air pollution there as well to booth.
When it got really bad for me, I reminded myself of those unfortunate GI's that were dispatched to Vietnam during the 60's from places like Minnesota or even Alaska, and how those poor souls were literally dropped off into some base in the jungle and had to endure 4 day combat patrols in the same conditions as we are discussing here.

I have a yacht that I sail around SE Asia with my family over the past 9 years. Probably a better word for a 'yacht' is a sailboat. It's our floating, transporting, tiny home and pretty much an off-grid platform. Totally agree that wealth and happiness, for most people, is TIME for yourself. As you said, you need money to gain that time. But its not a lot of money that is needed. The trick is to know when not to become the slave to money.

Drip watering, using recycled plastic bottles & containers, is cheap/easy & might help some of your plants survive the heat. Just poke a small hole in the bottle/container, to allow a tiny stream or series of drops to flow, over a span of an hour or two. Here in Central California, we get 40C temps during the summer on a regular basis, and I place the drip bottles around the plants which would otherwise wilt & die in the heat. I refill the bottles twice per day, on the hottest days.
Note: the tiny hole will likely clog often, so it is necessary to check for this regularly. I just use a steel pin to clear the clog - easy peasy.
    Great content, as usual. :)

The past King Rama 9 issued guidance to his people in the last years of his life in the form of a Sufficiency Economy. I read it as guidance to everyone as individuals to live a good life within their means, participating in their family and community. There is nothing to be gained by being jealous of those with more. For anyone with a little time to research the subject I suggest you spend that time.

I live in Darwin , NT, Australia and the weather is the exactly the same as Thailand !! I noticed you said your aircon was on 22c . You will find that you will save a considerable amount of power if you up the temp to 24-25.c. You will find also with the heat in Thailand lately( I’m in khon Kaen province at the moment ) your aircon will never reach 22c anyway which means the compressor in the unit is running at full capacity constantly without turning off / slowing down and therefore consuming maximum energy. ( google it) I also think the Thai government put some advisory notice out showing the comparaison in energy consumption depending on what temperature the aircon unit is set at( google that too)
Now I was going to mention it before when you were building your house regarding the colour choice of tin roofing !! White or off white is the coolest color… your roof cavity inside your house must be like and oven?. I presume you have used the Tin that you get in Thailand which has the insulation glue to it? I think that is supposed to work quite well but not to sure though I have heard after a period of time it delaminates from the tin roofing and falls off? In Australia they use roof insulation( google that too) which reduces heat transfer by radiation, convection and conduction. My house in Darwin I think has roof sarking to reduce the heat transfer from the tin roof though to my ceiling . I then placed ceiling insulation batts on top of my ceiling to stop any further transfer of heat from my tin roof through the ceiling!! I then placed vents at either end of the roof eves and then installed 2 whirly bird fans( Google that) on the tin roof!! These vent fans then remove any hot air building up in the roof/ceiling cavity with fresh air entering the via the eve s. I now find my house is so much easier to cool!!
There is paint you can buy that when applied to your tin roof also reduces the temperature of the tin roof !! I have used it on previous houses I have owned in Darwin but over time there is a reduction in its effectiveness and requires another application of the paint!!
Regarding your dying wilted plants Google water retaining crystals I use them and find them quite effective !!

Learning English from the TV is far more fun for a kid than learning at school. Our kids learnt Chinese because we only let them watch their shows in Chinese. I grew up in rural Australia, very very occasionally it would hit 50. But these days when it occasionally hits 50 people cry black and blue about it being the end of the world. But it was like where you are, very low humidity (your phone says 23% humidity). I'd personally take 48 degrees at 23% humidity, over 41 degrees at 80% humidity like we get here in Taiwan. :).

Hy Ryan, been here in Khon Kaen for 12 years now and this is certainly the hottest that I have ever recorded here. Having said that, it is only a few degrees hotter with my thermometer in the shade hitting 44.9 yesterday around 15:30. But the night time temperature is a lot hotter never dropping below 30 degrees for the last 8 days. I think that, plus the hot wind constantly blowing makes it feel as if we are living in a convection oven! Looking forward to you developing your bird farm and expanding your range of breeds. Although when in UK I kept various breeds of chicken, including Silkies, Appenzeller, Sussex, Wyandotte, Rhode Island Red and various hybrids, I have never kept any of the bigger heavy chickens like Brahmas, Buff Orpington or Cochin. Maybe you might want to give them I go as they are great talking points and mostly very friendly. I have never understood Bitcoin so I keep well away. Don't forget to keep hydrated. God bless you, Damo and the family and everything that you do. 😅❤🙏

It feels hotter in S.E. Asia, about 15 years ago it was more bearable, but I'm now wearing a 15kg "meat suit", so it's maybe not surprising and I sweat all day long. The locals on the other hand seem to be able to get through the day without breaking a sweat. Tree canopies make a huge difference, there can be 15c + degrees difference but you need larger trees and don't know how that can impact farming. Probably can't farm most crops under trees.

I am so happy that you do know how to live a very happy life with your family. If everyone just learn to live a life with satisfaction with what they have instead of wanting more and more their life will be much happier.

Can you build an underground room in your cottage? You should be able to reduce room temperature by 5-7 degrees.

I see. If the flooding is an issue, can you build it watertight bunker/room, by using a cement which prevents from water seeping through the walls? I think they use this kind of cement when building waterproof dambs. Thank you for your videos, they inspire me to relocate from UK to somewhere else, and in future find an Asian wife 🙂.

Ryan, you'll probably know that Bolton in the UK hit 40degree for two days last summer, then within a week it was 15 & pi55ing down 😅
Personally if i was to choose between Thailand heat & UK winters for the rest of my days...it's Thailand heat.

  • @robroy25
    @robroy25 16 днів тому

Yep, been here 13 years. This is definitely the hottest, longest period I have experienced. Before, maybe 3 weeks of above 40 degrees....but wow! It's been about 10 weeks above 40 here in Ratchaburi and no sign of getting cooler.

"The past 4 years of our life in under 20 minutes" Damo & Ryan, incredibly open and transparent sharing ... not very English 555. Must be your psychology training Ryan. We have been watching since Covid-19 days. I was working in China for an American company when COVID-19 appeared. My company got us out of China and assigned me to a job where they needed professionals, unfortunately, it was in an area of the USA that is not pleasant (West Texas Desert, and not the nice or interesting parts). So I know what you mean about having a job that pays very well but adversely affects your health. I retired we moved to Khon Kaen and built a in house in a rural area. We enjoy your content. When you finish your Air BnB barn we will book it. คุณมีครอบครัวที่ยอดเยี่ยม ขอบคุณสำหรับการแชร์.

wouldnt 41 degrees be nicer than 4 degrees.
it takes an aircon 20 minutes to cool down a room but a heater takes forever to cool down a room. also our bodies are 36-37 degrees and 40 degrees is 4 degrees warmer but 4 degrees is a massive difference of 32 degrees

Yes the heat is a popular topic these days...Happy to hear your walk and talk today Ryan. You are a "trooper" my Auntie would say, to be out and about in this heat (for a little while at least), Very hot down here in Chon buri province as well. Yes the weather app. says 39 degrees, then in small letters, feels like 42! So why not just say 42? Great talk and discussion on "wealth" and "what makes you happy" Your priorities are right on brother! Damo, the kids, the parents, the village have all accepted you as part of the tribe because of your helping ways I think. You may become the first farang Village Chief in the years to come, or Damo the first female Village Chief. Peace and Love Y'all Stay hydrated!
Side note, I do not like bitcoin for environmental and humanitarian reasons. The noise pollution and carbon footprint these "mining machines" create is excessive. Many small farmers and other places in the USA have been ruined when a developer installs a mining machine complex in their neighborhood. Their sleep is disturbed, their animals are disturbed, etc.. Constant noise of 70 - 90 decibels 24 hours a day. Hopefully technology will correct this, maybe Elon will find the answer! You do you, Ryan,. At your age and situation it's all good, am not attacking you 555. Peace
