Today I review the new bandai tamashii nations S.H.Monsterarts Godzilla 1989 figure.
S.H.Monsterarts Godzilla 1989 turned out to be absolutely fantastic! The sculpt is well done, the paint apps clean and S.H.Monsterarts Godzilla 1989 is posable. The lack of accessories is a bit of a letdown, but hey we finally have a proper Godzilla in scale with Biollante. I love S.H.Monsterarts Godzilla 1989 and I absolutely recommend picking up S.H.Monsterarts Godzilla 1989!

Personally, I would’ve loved an accessory that mimics Godzilla’s hand getting pierced by Biollante’s tendril, with yellow blood/acid/liquid seeping out, but as it stands, I’m looking forward to this figure shipping from Bigbadtoystore. If the price was lowered to maybe $50 at max, I could see this becoming the default Hesei Godzilla for any collection.
This is monster arts lol you are lucky if you even get a figure that doesn't fall apart lol
Also a hole for a Biollante figure, just any.
This guy is the bare minimum for SH. Monsterarts.
I'm looking forward to your both future reviews of both S.H Monster Arts Mechagodzilla 2021 and Singular Point Godzilla.
I will review them as soon as they are released this winter.

My favorite Godzilla design-my cousin got this guy for me for Christmas-can’t wait to set him up with my Biollante and Super X-2! You diorama set up with Goji’s emergence from the volcano is ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC

1989 was my grail and I'm glad they finally gave him a scaled Monsterarts treatment. I agree that the lack of accessories and the spotty quality on the paint apps slightly detract but overall I look at the figure and know exactly what I'm looking at. He's on a shelf right next to 1964 Emergence. I'm curious what the special color version of BioGoji is going to be in a year or two.
One of my favorite godzilla designs. I do plan on getting this figure one day. Probably on Christmas I'm not sure yet.

I recently got the figure myself, and everything is GREAT. But the tail tends to pop off as the dum bell ball joint is very tight on one of the tail segments

I got mine two days ago here in Germany. I have to say the paint job at the mouth is not good. S.h. monsterarts needs to step up their game again. i also got the light and sound one. i like it better.

Ok, I'll be completely honest. This figure feels a bit... unnecessary. I just don't see the point in this release when the other releases from the same time period are nearly identical.
I also think S.H. MonsterArts panders to collectors. I could be wrong, but that's the only reason I can see for why they don't include atomic breath effect parts for 70% of their Godzillas. They know most people who buy their figures already have at least one Godzilla that has an effect part.
Not really pandering to collectors I feel like Tamashii has just been milking the hell outta the Heisei era for well over 10 years despite collectors being vocal about wanting more Showa/Millennium era figures
It's not at all unnecessary for the simple reason that you already stated: the SHMA figure line is aimed primarily towards collectors. The problem hasn't been that the line has milked the Heisei era, the problem is that they've been doing so many special color versions of figures already released that the line has lapped itself. For collectors who want a figure of every single character, including all Godzilla incarnations, this is a very welcome addition. The other Heisei Godzilla figures have been out of print for many years and are wildly expensive. The only other 89 Godzilla figure was the lights and sounds version and many fans were vocal that they wanted a 6-inch scale version but we never got one.
That said, things are looking very good for the future of the SHMA line. As I mentioned, they've now re-released almost every single figure in the line now, so the only option going forward is new figures. I believe the only figure from the Heisei era never made is an 84 Godzilla, and even that would be a welcome addition to the line.
@@cfighter95 OK, I guess that's fair if people are asking for this release. Still, they should be able to make figures that accommodate to both collectors and general fans. Their entire customer base isn't collectors. Some people just want one nice, detailed figure of their favorite version, but some figures come with atomic breath and some don't. So if they want their figure to spew fire, they have to buy another figure just for the effect part, regardless if they like the figure itself or not. I just don't see why they need to act like collectors are their ONLY audience.
@Rando Yaguchi The accessories add options for how you wanna display your figure. If you wanna have your Godzilla using his atomic breath, but you get one like this, you either need to buy another figure you maybe didn't want just to use its effect part or swap one in from the collection they assume you already have. Not everyone wants to collect them all and there are plenty within that group who would at least like the option to display their figure in alternate ways like that.

I'm kind of tired of monster arts and them charging us these insane prices and they come with absolutely nothing. It's always the bare figure and it's infuriating because half the time they are kind of flimsy. I think the only ones I have that are rock solid with no issues are my gamera and 2004 Godzilla. These figures are always 50/ 50 it's like you get a good one or you get one with weird paint apps or loose joints. It's like either or really. It's always a crap shoot with these godzilla figures which sucks because they cost so much. It's frustrating.
