- This video illustrates the differences in flight-dynamics between Speedwings and Mini-Wings! Although people often think "smaller is better" -- the level of skill required for Speedfly.com lead-instructor Jeff Katz to proximity-fly a high-aspect-ratio Mini-Wing down this line is simply unfathomable.
(and he can do it on a tiny speedwing just as easily 😉)

@@stefansmuts8882 1st wing is a rapido3 or rapi-dos. The 2nd wing is a Little Cloud baby goose, probably size 13.

speedwing is very steady and exactly made for this kind of flying .. the mini wing however ...can do almost the same ..but much more .. you can see clearly there is too much lift performance so you have to roll more to stay down its much more versatile and I think we are gonna see people doing more stuff with this kind of wing ..
This is now getting more exciting than the wingsuit vids...though they are amazing to watch aswel. Brilliant piloting from both here 👍

WOW ! Incredible piloting skills from both pilots. I've only ever had a skydiving canopy at about 140° of bank on spirals with the canopy heavily 'loaded' & plenty of altitude in case things went south on me....kudos to these guys !

puffin 10,5 .. newer model from the baby goose 10 .. both are excellent !! for playing .. puffin I would even call pretty save ..

@@SamuelVerma speedwing is more stable .. but for dunesoaring or highwind mauntain flying lc is the best ... i srarted with dune flying and would never have use for speedwing ..

I fly an 18 mini Roller and a 15 M ozone radios but almost all coastal high wind soaring. I always wanted to learn how to barrel roll but at 65 I try to keep it pretty conservative. Love the video where are you flying?
Same here. Flying since 1989 when non of these kind of wings existed. I'll give it a go in next live! PS: I love my Roller 16! :-)

@@christophermiller353 depends mostly on where the family wants to spend the holidays. Just came back from Ölüdeniz in Turkey, which has fantastic views. Been to nice places in New Zeeland, Australia and Bali, and I really learned a lot in Namibia near Swakopmund. I live near Cologne in Germany and have to travel to get up in the air. Sometimes it's the cost of Netherland, sometimes the alps. Where do you fly?

As a Paragliding/Paramotor pilot, I'm not sure what the learning curve is to get to this level, but I'm sure it's pretty steep. I wonder how many times they fly the line before they get it dialed in proximity wise. The room for error is very low, serious flying skill, almost superhero level shit here.
I see very very little margin for errors for both. Any miscalculation could be hurtful! Funny thing is, I’m sure one think “nah, it is just pure mastering”, and in the same time, after such line, the thinking is like “whoa, I came close on this one, what a thrill “. Take care, guys, you’ve got only one life.

Great skill level but the accidents happen to those who are hotdogging like this. All he has to do is miscalculate by 2 feet or get stuck in a downdraft and it's death or a wheelchair. If they keep flying this close to terrain it's not if it's when.

How do these differ from skydiving parachute
These are essentially mini Paragliders... So, They're Aerofoil in profile, so they generate lift as they cut through the air, hence the name 'wing'.
Meanwhile, a parachute descends, and so is not designed to 'generate lift' like a wing does.
Mini wings and paragliders are tough, but no where near as heavy duty as a parachute would be. They are not designed for the levels of G-Forces experienced by a Parachute, especially when it deploys.
Most glider pilots fly a wing, but carry a parachute as a safety option... Not that a parachute would be of use for much of this kind of acrobatic flying scenario! This is wayyy too extreme for me... I'm happy with flying the larger, 'full size' paraglider only 🙈

@@Wil_87 A parachute/canopy designed for skydiving is also designed as a wing, meaning it generates lift in a similar way as an airplane wing. Just not as much as a paraglider wing. Unless you are talking about round canopies, they just descend as you say :)

if you do not fly mini wings/speedwings or at the very least paragliders, you won't. The speeding is clearly faster more dynamic and sticks to the terrain, while the miniwing tends to climb out of every dynamic maneuver. The speeding is doing barrel rolls while the miniwing are more of high wingover, etc
@@sergeig685 yep clear .. and with your mining you can topland maintains and feast at the beach with highlands .. but speeding is master in going downhill !!

@@Robert-xk9no they are viral, literally all over the place and I know several pilots who speed fly. What makes it look fake is the 360 camera effect. Look up Valentin Delluc or Jean Baptiste Chandelier on UA-cam

yes, it's definitely real. There are a lot of similar videos on youtube, most of these pilots probably aren't going to live to be 80, but they are definitely getting the most out of life.

Pretty clear that the first one is a speed wing and the second one is a miniwing, even without knowing the difference you can read, right?
The difference is quite obvious in their maneuvers, speed, and how one stick to the terrain, while the other tends to convert speed to height.
... if you are a para pilot you see it clearly .. its food for speed rider pilots ..and the new class of mini wings that can almost do like a speed rider but much more in other terrains .. so it very informative for people who fly !! ..
