Picked the ConCor/Kato Cow and Calf duo several months ago at a local club's train event. 99% of the problems with these are in the trucks, they pick up every bit of crud off the track. Did a total tear-down cleaning and polish of the electrical pick ups. Not a lot of fun, but now runs well! Convinced me to get an ultra-sonic cleaning bath for next time to avoid the truck re-assembly hassle. Because so many model companies make their gears out of Play-Doh I try to avoid using petoleum based products on "plastic" gears. I use a PTFE lube called "Magic Lube" made by the Aladdin Equip. Co. in Sarasota, Fla., USA. It's intended use is to lube O-rings, gaskets, motors, bearings and water filters. Sticks well and won't dry up and cake like white lithium. I apply it with a tooth pick, or straight pin. Massage the tube to keep it mixed. Get it on Amazon, white 1oz. tube, blue top, Aladdin's stock number #630, under $8.00. Love your content, seems we both get ourselves in similar modeling predicaments!
You always try to put a positive spin no matter the manufacturer...thank you!! Also, you are not afraid to jump right in the middle of any locomotive! More thanks! Please keep it up!
Thank you as always. I actually like the Ho around the room videos. I am going to do that in N but do a double track so don't worry .I always learn something from you videos and I will adapt the ideas for sure. But being g an old timer and an N scaller I do like your repair videos and dcc videos too, so keep it up and stay safe. thanks again.
I had a concor rivarossi as a kid in baby blue rock island I bought used at a train show. It was my second n scale locomotive. I no longer have it but it was good memories
Judging by the cab my guess is sw1500 not 100 percent though , I have a walthers sw1200 and the top roof is rounded. Found out my walthers is actually a life like wich walthers owns now. Anyway enjoy these type of videos! Mp1500?
Walthers bought life like and atlas bought walthers / life like n scale tooling now. If you want parts call atlas. They own the life like and walthers tooling for N
I recall reading on Spookshow's site that it's a bizarre juxtaposition of parts based an an early concept drawing of the SW1500. In other words: "a foobie." In other other words: "something made by Con-Cor."
I believe that I have the same locomotive, purchased new in the early 1990’s. Runs poorly now, only at full throttle, at unsightly speeds. I’ll try to copy what you did, so perhaps it’ll run at slower speeds.

Yes, clean wheels is the secret.

Yeah, well I’ve been taking locomotives apart for a few years now. It’s fun to do something new.

If you build n scale around the room, you can run crazy long trains…
Theoretically an SW 1500. But if you round of the roof of the cab you can back date it by a generation. There were both cow & calf versions
Yes it was fun to fix!
Another great video! Learning such a lot from you as just getting into n gauge in my retirement, all the best from Australia👍🇦🇺😎
Some of the old engines are easy to work on. For example a Kato GP35.
Glad to see your back doing this. The shelf train was kool but if I knew you didn't give this up would have been better.
True, most people who watch this channel like n scale.

Yes, my first really good engine was a Kato GP 38-2.
Great video; informative and enjoyable, THANKS!
Glad you enjoyed it!

I’ve more on the way.

I think your locomotive is a SW1500. I paid $39.95 for mine, new.
Thanks for watching!
Also do you ever use an ultra sonic cleaner for some of the small stuff and the fine grit? it might work pretty well for some of items .Just a thought
I should try it some day.
