I dunno, I feel as if people who really like the last 2 approach DEP a different way. I don't dislike the last 2, in fact One of Us... is borderline brilliant in places, but I'll be honest, their last great album was Ire Works because their less frantic stuff was very well placed and their nuts stuff had a form of identity. And that's what they've suffered with for a long while with the exception of a few songs off One of Us... their trademark balls to the wall songs lack something discernible. Even Unretrofied knocks them all out of the park, and I dunno how to feel about that. At times it feels like a cross between a NIN/FNM record with Gregg screaming and singing. Sounds like a recipe for a winner, but I dunno. It seems to just go on and on. Maybe in the end DEP turned into a band that created music for people to actually listen to with a different intent. But really, they were always "that nuts band" who played hard, fast and ridiculous music. And maybe that's why they've called it a day now. They just don't have that in them creatively anymore.
I find anyone that complains about 'new' or 'melodic' DEP are nitpicky whiners. This album kills it in so many places, and consistently. I recall that I wasn't drawn to 'One of Us' immediately, but that was more to do with my fluid taste in music, and simply not being drawn to it at that time. Now, I can revisit any DEP album, and thoroughly enjoy it, and in my opinion, that's simple consistency...I don't see these highs and lows that other people seem to see within their career. I suppose Calculating Infinity stands out as the most raw/brutal, and I'm definitely drawn to that, but this album is similarly brutal in a myriad of ways, different and similar to the previous albums. I actually think of the guy from Ugly Kid Joe whenever i hear his melodic vocals. It's really off-putting. I still don't get why they thought it was a good idea to reform the band w/ a Mike Patton impressionist. The EP w/ him was supposed to be the bookend to their career as a band.
When I went online to check ticket prices, I found that there's one more very last show on march 4th in cologne, that is not listed on their own homepage. I got the ticket in front of me. I wonder why it's not listed on dillingerescapeplan.org... maybe they're planning on pulling down the location with all their equipment? :)

Do more people prefer old Dillinger (calculating infinity to ire works) or the albums after that? I love both in different ways. Ire Works is prolly my fav album. But Calculating Infinity is just so unique and raw. And stuff like this is so different, much more refined but perhaps less chaotic
This is not at all the Dillinger I grew up with, in fact, it's closer to something Mike Patton would come up with, but I don't hate it. I find it enjoyable to listen to, but probably because I like both Mike Patton and Dillinger Escape Plan, and I really liked that record they both did together, but this feels like more of a continuation of that particular work and less the evolution of the Dillinger Escape Plan themselves sans Patton. I grew to love the chaos that Dillinger gave me. It was what I needed out of music at that time. I needed to be blown away and Dillinger did that for me EVERY SINGLE TIME ever since I first heard Under the Running Board. This though, reminds me of a similar direction taken by bands I used to be ALL about, like Candiria. I listen to their new stuff, and I get like, really bummed out. I start feeling like the good ol' days of hardcore are gone forever, and a little chip gets taken out of my heart by the chisel wielded by the holder of the most dollars.
I like to think they're giving everyone a taste of the red kool-aid, and the neanderthals get the full on Jonestown treatment. That way the album goes out to the people to really deserve it.
This song is basically DEP saying "we could have dominated your favourite genre if we wanted to" and I respect it

This is my first time listening to The Dillinger Escape Plan. I'm already sad that they're splitting up.
I love this band!❤️
I love how it drops into the chorus
Lyrics
To those of you I loved
This pains me to lose
I hate to feel used
I'm frightened in sleep, thinking my world will be gone
Promise me I won't die
I panic in dreams from when I was still young
Please don't turn on that light
I can't see it
To those of you I've lost
That pained me to love
Please know that I tried
Please know that I tried
I'm frightened in sleep, thinking my world will be gone
Promise me I won't die
I panic in dreams from when I was still young
Please don't turn on that light
I can't see it
Do you really think
That I would leave you?
But I couldn't stand myself
So I had to choose
Still you turn me on
The wild in your eyes
But now I can't trust myself
To keep on the light
For us to see with
I'm frightened in sleep, thinking our world will be gone
Promise me I won't die
I panic in dreams from when I was still young
Please don't turn on that light
I'm frightened in sleep, thinking our world will be gone
Promise me I won't die
I panic in dreams from when I was still young
Please don't turn on the
Great song from the greatest band.
I listen to this during my panic attacks caused by the existential crisis.
You and me both
This really grows on you after a few listens!
Great song I really like it.
I'm just happy that we all got to enjoy DEP at all.
i have a feeling this is going to be beautiful
Watched them live last night. Them disbanding and the "Promise me I won't die" phrase in this song makes me so sad..
The Mastodon Escape Plan
Banger of a song
I really like what the drummer is doing on this song
@ColoredSpaces
this song is what keeps me from ending it all
Thank you for the music
Sounds like Greg was the love child of Mike Patton and Ozzy Osbourne.
Martin HaVoK and the singer of depeche mode
Martin HaVoK what's funny is I was brought here from a Mr Bungle song's comments section
it also reminds me of the lead singer of Mastodon.
You're not far off. Mike Patton's super close with Dillinger. He produced some of their stuff too. Good ear man!
I'm gonna miss the shit outta these guys! 😢
Speaks to me deeply
Mike Patton is that you? oO
beautiful song indeed.
PERFECTO
Yep!
I'm gonna miss this band.
Stoked, gentlemen.
Greg’s vocals on this song are fucking amazing.
Benjamin, you gave me musical love, when I thought it lost. I don't want to go on without you. You are the musical one for me. I think I love you. Please stay with us."
im so lucky knowing this band from smackdown vs raw 2006
So sad to see them go. This album is definitely a high note to end on.
please come back
wow its already been 7 years
SO GOOD AAAAA
Seems like they went back to the Irony is a dead scene sound which is AWESOME. Dope song
It doesn't sound like Irony Is A Dead Scene at all.
This is probably the most depressing dillinger song, makes me think of a friend with cancer
yall need to make a song with mastodon. Styles would go really well and be interesting to hear the vocal styles mash together
Great track
you reckon?
yes do you have a problem with it?
yes - it is a symptom of my terminal illness
A nod to the "Miss Machine" style? Fantastic band: RIP!!!!
This song hits home. Reminds me of a sick friend
Haunting
still waiting thy coming to my country :(
Great, such sadness...
...and so with every beginning, there is always an ending... -Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza
The best singer in the whole white world
Do more people prefer old Dillinger (calculating infinity to ire works) or the albums after that?
I start feeling like the good ol' days of hardcore are gone forever, and a little chip gets taken out of my heart by the chisel wielded by the holder of the most dollars.
so f...... gooooood !
A good last song on an album or extra "hidden track" after a sick explosion of guitar and drums fading out in a screaming single tone.
Dont Split up.Please :(
New ETID and DEP. I'm so spoiled.
They had a car accident in Poland. (Europe). The concert in Krakow (Poland) canceled.
Where is the rest of the album?? Im so confused
you haters heard the previous track right? theyre just giving you a taste. either that or weeding out the Neanderthals
I like to think they're giving everyone a taste of the red kool-aid, and the neanderthals get the full on Jonestown treatment. That way the album goes out to the people to really deserve it.
Poetry in motion!!!
yesss!
