- Welcome the first Ford truck to the UBT Family! We bought a 1961 Ford Unibody shortbed...and yeah, we've been keeping it a secret for about 6 months. But, we're letting you in on the secret now and working to devise a plan to get this truck on the road in 2020. Hope you'll stay tuned in and leave us some feedback on what you'd do to this truck.

You could crown vic swap the front, and an explorer 8.8 for the rear... and you would get 4 wheel disc brakes and good handling... it also could be done in a weekend.

My second vehicle when I was 16 was a 1968 Ford F100. After having a few mustangs I had a 1970 Chevy c20. I sold that to go back to college. Now 10 years later I just bought a 1967 c20! I'm excited for the build and love this channel.

Unibodies are so cool. I guess I would be considered a chevy guy because of my collection. I grew up around all trucks and I do like all kinds though. My grandpa had a 65 or 66 Ford, 70 Dodge, 73 Chev and an 82 S10, while my dad had 70 Chev, and a 78 Chev, and later a 83 Dodge. So keep dragging them home I say!

I had a 62 long bed unibody Ford when I was younger. I paid 200 bucks fer it an traded a dually school bus rear end fer the ole red beast I had. She had a 300 inline 6 from 1981 bolted to a granny 4 speed trans.

You really want to take your channel to the next level you have to do a Crown Vic conversion. And fully restore that truck maybe two tone it grey and black. Or red and white. That really needs to be a pinnacle truck. Love the channel.

Dustin just hit the nail on the head....perfect direction! I'll be keeping an eye out for updates. Pretty unique truck...I've even seen a few longbed unibody trucks of this generation. Ya'll know, if you found a cop car Crown Vic, you could give it a Blues Brother's name. They said their car had cop brakes, cop car engine & so on 😎😎😎 It'd be kinda cool😎😎😎

Back in the day we would put a Plymouth Plymouth valerie front suspension. Lays right in the frame and then easy to lower with torsion bars , disk brakes and power steering.

I’ve been looking for a big ugly dodge, kinda like the one in the movie “fire in the sky” but unlucky so far. Plus the wife wants a vacation home so if I buy another truck I’ll be living in my shop lol
Besides the unibodies being extremely hard to come by, those & the 1st gen lightnings are the only 2 "Blue Oval" trucks I really dig. That one's a mighty nice project vehicle to start off with!👍Excited to see what's next! 🌴Aloha🌴

I lived in North Dakota my whole life, I'm 64 now. I am shocked at the amount of rust on that Ford. Do they put salt on the roads there ? In western North Dakota they don't salt the roads, and old trucks are better there. Minnesota is crazy with salt on the roads. Cool truck man !
most of it comes down to how they have been treated. Most where definitely just treated as work trucks and over the years that is how it’s reflected after many many years of life
They do still salt roads here some but they used to a lot more. To me, it’s more about humidity in the south - you can just look at an older truck and they’ll rust. Most think it’s bad in NE or Midwest but we get it good here.
They do spread the salt brine on the roads here which is death to trucks .
It’s definitely bad in the Midwest but you can still find good examples but it’s pretty worth it to travel south and get something from Texas/Oklahoma. My daily 03 diesel vw wagon is a Texas car and the under side is completely rust free most around here have tons and tons of rot

There is one of these out my way that I have been riding past for years. Poor thing is just out in a field. Used to have awning over it til the tarp rotted off. Neat little trucks for sure though!

Our family truck when I was growing up was this truck, in blue, and I think it was a longbed. My old man abused that truck to death. He had a weird stock frame that set in the bed pockets, and would haul horses and cattle in the bed of the truck. Needless to say, horses kicked the entire tailgate out within a few years.

Truth
I have a nice Ford Thunderbird 312 motor 3/4 race with a 2 speed power glide that would be perfect for that truck. Would make it get up and go great
Sounds like a cool set-up. I think we're going to do what we can with the 302/c4 set-up for now.
I have a unibody. I'm dailying it now. It started as my profile picture shows. 200 ci bored to a 269ci 3 speed on the tree

I had two 61-66 f100s 1st was a 65 swb, 2nd was a 64 swb. My uncle had 63 unibody. He told me body parts from non unibodies trucks won't work, especially the doors.
Doesn't surprise me at all. These trucks are pretty specific as far as I can tell.
About only body parts from the non unibody truck that will work on the unibodies is the fenders and hood.

That's why I bought my 61 Unibody. The previous owner did all the pain in the ass bodywork.
We like to buy them cheap (i.e. needs rust repair).
I hava a 59 F-100 that needs the usual bodywork. I used to do that for a living. I don't like it that much. BTW, the unibody truck cost me 2300 dollars and it runs.
I always thought those trucks made cool cruisers. I have seen a few on crown Vic frames that were pretty sweet too.

Man that's what's up, I have a 61' f100 short bed unibody that I'm working on. I saved it from going to the scrap yard (retards didnt know what they had) but they got as far as scraping the doors and tail gate, thay being said is I have since then got another set of doors, and i did some trade work for a ex sheriff 2008 crown vic with under 100,000 miles on it and I'm going to be putting the body of the unibody on top of the crown vic. Nice truck u got there

That’s the ugliest ole truck made! 😂😂😂 If you look to the left you’ll see my blue unibody. I’m a Chevy guy though so you know what a guy had to do. Yep, chevanized it. I just want to be able to get where I’m going ya know. 😊Camaro subframe, gm tilt column, 350/350, flipped rear and c notch frame. 14 inch drop all the way around. I do like when all classic truck guys get along though and not have issues with brands. Friends are better to have than fighting over a brand. I think I have a video walk around of my truck on my channel somewhere. If ya want to get a better look. That’s a pretty solid truck ya have there and the tailgate is very very very valuable. The new ones are thin and nothing like the old ones. My truck is Texas truck and zero rust. About as solid as a tank. Look up Pistol Annie unibody truck on here.
