Just a clarification I'd like to post here, don't trust a refractometer as a Brix reading during fermentation, the alcohol content developing can throw off the light in the refractometer giving you a way different reading
An interesting question I've never tested. I think the answer has something to do with the design of a refractometer. It was designed to measure how light bends through a solution and estimate estimate alcohol content based on that. Since pure alcohol is not a solution I think that would throw it off significantly.
Get that refractometer. There so much better than that glass tube that ALWAYS rolls of the table. Less solution at any temp. Save it for the F.G. readings. Cheers =)
I really like how this channel is developing and becoming better every day. Keep it up Ryan!
Thanks so much! I always appreciate hearing from you
Did you know: Chemically, sucrose is made of one molecule of glucose bonded to one molecule of fructose.
Ever have Dicken Cider?
nice video. I have a tart cherry cider fermenting right now. I like to make a new cider each month.
Mmmm. Sounds tasty, let me know how ti turns out!
I switched to a refractometer for measuring wort and beer, and it was a great decision.
Thinking about doing the same soon!
Interesting & Educational Video.
Thanks so much!
You are Welcome
Horrible puns, great video!
Science. Gotta love it. Great vid. Cheers
Nothing better than science and beer... or cider. Cheers!
Some good information.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed! Cheers
Great content as always👍
Very timely, hard ciders are gaining steam :)
Yes they are, more craft ciders popping up all over

Thanks for the great tip on that. Cheers!
why does the refractometer give me a 15% result when i measure pure alcohol?

What do you mean : “ pure alcohol “ ?

Right after I hit the reply button, I remembered, they make plastic ones now.
I am going to get one soon. Cheers!
I use a Refractometer for my wines and my home brews Way easier.
I don't have one (yet!) but it looks much much simpler
Mmmmm Cider... sorry I cheated on you beer...
