Trent Palmer what you should do is make a new intro for your flying vids, the one that you have right now is great, but I just think that it would be cool to have a new intro for your vids. Thanks for you time on reading this. Just something to consider!!!!! What do you think about it Trent!!!
With the fires; this is probably the BEST investment you've made for your home and property since you built the house. Cool stuff man! Cannot wait to see the hangar!
Hi Captain Browne! Do you know Jonas Marcinko and did you see his (most recent) crash? Would be interesting to hear your perspective on aeronautical decision making or lack thereof.
Hey Trent... I live in SE Ohio and have a 3/4 acre pond. I highly recommend a small aeration system on a timer for 6-12 hrs daily ( preferably at night ). No stagnant water or mosquitos and probably the only way your fish will survive. Pond dye is also recommended to control algae. A small fountain will aerate and would work for the size of pond you have. Looks awesome brother! Have fun , Blue Skies!
It crossed my mind to wonder if Trent's pilot experience has informed his wildfire-fighting preparations. When a pilot has an emergency, s/he gets back to the ground safely on their own quick thinking and initiative. No one can help you up there, only after you've come down.
Nice landscaping. It is also a good defense in depth against brush fires. You have a sprinkler system so if a fire comes you can turn on the sprinklers and that and the pond is the water defense for your house. Your paver patio really looks better than a concrete slab.
It does! We already have a ton of birds I have never seen before and the deer now come all the way up to the house instead of the 100ft perimeter they used to keep ;)
Very much appreciate your update. Here is Salt Lake I am attempting to replace horrible concrete on the property. All of it has to go. Contractors are impossible to find and the cost is HUGE. I feel your pain. Your installation looks really good and I'll mow your grass.
Totally inspired brother ...the wife and I have really been contemplating what the next 50 years should/could look like ...appreciate you taking the time to share (because you could be enjoying your time doing other things) 👍🏾
Can you guys put together a video explaining how you went about the "Owner, builder" process? What did you have to be incharge of, what you have to schedule, who you had to higher? That would be amazing! I'm very interested in this kit and going about this same process you did.
you need a well monitor.. and check the well level logs before and after sprinkling the lawns.. lawns in a desert take a lot of water and the well levels might start to drop.. most important ... you don't want the well /aquifer to run out of water.. had that happen at our place over at the foot of mount pinos.. had a 220 foot cased well.. new neighbor put in a 400 foot well and a massive lawn.. soon our well was dry.. and our well was about 1/4 mile from his..
Awesome... Hind sight is always 20/20... At least twice as deep in a couple of areas with some large rock -mounds for the fish to live, hide and spawn. A friend of mine dug a 5-ish acre 'pond' on his property (yes it took months and a LOT of dirt was excavated). It's 9-12 Ft. deep in a couple of areas with dirt-mounds that come up almost to the surface, then he laid (large) fallen trees on those mounds. It's truly amazing how much the water level rises and falls with/without rain (up/down 2-3Ft regularly and as much as 5-7+ Ft over the years). There are times when the logs are completely covered with water and other times when the logs and 3Ft of the mounds are above the water... Lots of brim, catfish and bass but since it's so big (and doesn't have a liner), the water is never clear like yours...
Love the pond and I'm glad you used sod. The smell of fresh cut grass is my favorite. Dog's love water so good luck with that. That was smart to have the pond serve two purposes. Thanks for the video and I love your chickens.
For a larger pond capacity, for fire fighting, you could build a dam down the hill, connect the two with pipes if you wanted to. If it was large enough you might even attract some choppers wanting to dip buckets in your dam if needed (and land for lunch, if needed!). 👍😀⭐️
Place is looking great! Looking at your property, surrounded by so much open space, you wouldn't think that fire would be a big concern. Smoke, sure, but with all the open space, fire not so much.
You guys must have a heck of a good producing well to pump that much water in the open in the desert. It'll be interesting to see how it handles the summer high temps. Looks amazing.
You should be very proud of what you have done with your home. Great job! You and the other flying cowboys have really installed a deep interest in aviation within me and I would love to fly with you guy's someday, but that is just a dream now because of the virus. Keep the video's coming. Your video's are the best and such a pleasure to watch. Jim Rogers
Trent - I know that I have been critical of your firefighting skills, but your outdoor living space turned out absolutely beautiful. The water will attract lots of birds and such. The view is spectacular. Great Job
My Bride and my Golden Retriever would both be using the new pond as a swimming attraction... That being said, your pad is an oasis that is as cool as The Freedom Fox!! Plus you have a runway, how can that get even better??!!! Oh, that’s right, you need a hangar next!! Well, that will come soon enough!! Your dreams are coming true!!! Enjoy!!!! 👍👍
I enjoy these videos on the house. It's come a long way. There's a lot to be said for sweat equity. Still waiting on the hangar. About the pond depth, I learned that lesson the hard way myself. Albeit with only 350 gallons. Thanks and be safe.
The fire pond looks great, with the added features...fish for the dog to play with, take a dog bath...A freedom fox on floats? It all looks great but will require a lot of water to keep it alive. I hope you have enough water source to keep up (well). The puffy looking chickens are cute. You have created a beautiful oasis to enjoy after a long day. The sunsets must be great? Thank you for sharing. Take care.
You have now created your own lake for RC Float Plane landings! The pond looks fantastic. The landscape crew and you did a great job on it. In the future you can ADD another deeper pond to the now existing pond if you want and connect them by plumbing.
Good job Trent! THE first thing I thought of when I saw the pond was woodland fire prevention - same with the grass in the back. When you were digging the pond I also observed that "I would have dug that deeper" - so when you confirmed all of my "design thoughts" I was pleased! Live and learn! Straight ahead
Weeping pipe for grass will be less loss to atmosphere. Get sprinklers put on poles for value protection. You put them at the peaks of the roof run them off your pump at pond. It helps create a micro climate at the house. Works well in fire with more fuels than you have
I must admit, I am impressed with the house design and now oasis landscaping. Keep up the videoblog on the house, then hangar updates.....oh, i also like the esoteric chickens.
Trent, I live in a suburb of Tucson, Arizona. When we built our retirement home, we put in a small pond with a four drop waterfall and surrounded it with real grass. With out a doubt the best idea ever. We surrounded it with queen palms and tropical plants. Yes, it is work to maintain and water intensive but the peace and beauty it gives is priceless. What fish did you stock it with? We just threw in a few feeder goldfish (they are red orange, not gold) and have raised a batch of babies every year. They have proven to be bullet proof. Just watch out for cranes and herons. They can clean out a pond in just a couple days. Absolutely love the property. Now, get on that hangar!
Trent Palmer As near as I can tell, traditional Koi can be fairly temperature sensitive. A close cousin is the Surassa Comet. I had great success with them and they have beautiful tails. They also seem to make really good heron food.
And this is a dream house Trent! you guys have really made this place come alive... you going to have a spread in Better Homes and Garden before long.😁✌
Good idea with the pond for fire fighting. If needed they could dip a bambi bucket into it assuming the pond is deep enough. A friend of mine has done that as a helicopter pilot while fighting fires, hes used swimming pools before in a crunch to cut down on trip time when trying to save structures. The pond looks great too.
Looks incredible! If you get tired of watering so much in the front you might look into buffalo grass. It self repairs and uses WAY less water then typical rye. Plus it's hard as heck to kill once established and should be nice and lush and green all year round in your climate. Looking forward to the Hanger! There are some great videos on UA-cam about hanger building and some of the pitfalls that can come with it.
Most house fires cause by wildland fires are due to embers landing on the roof. Installing small sprinklers on your roof to keep it wet when the fire comes close will help (save) your house. I was told this by a Natural Resource Officer that went to a forest fire out in BC Canada were the fire ran thru a sub division where all houses except one burn to the ground. The one house lived because the owner put sprinkles on his roof. He kinda regret it after because he had to live in an ash pit till all his neighbors got brand new houses with the insurance money. lol But in your case out in the country setting, it would be well worth every effort to save it. Hope this info can help or give you ideas. Stay safe and Keep Flying!!! Love your videos.
You have an awesome and beautiful land scape around you! You have the perfect area to do a long range rc wing or plane with iNav or arduplane. Set up a nice ground station and launch your rig and do awesome waypoint missions! Great video!
Looking very very nice.. Love the little pond and the back yard looks very nice.. looks like a great place to do some slope soaring or just regular rc flying beautiful back ground.
Trent! your home is really looking cool! Great job! As you are in a fire hot spot how about developing a fire hose system around your property . How long did it take to fill it
Oh yeah, just like the one you guys dropped in on a few weeks ago.
Wife says - house and landscape first, hanger when I'm happy. Husband wants a new hanger... Smart man!
With the fires; this is probably the BEST investment you've made for your home and property since you built the house. Cool stuff man! Cannot wait to see the hangar!
Good fire safe design!
Thanks! Fire was one of the leading motivations in not only the design but getting it done as soon as possible!
Hi Captain Browne! Do you know Jonas Marcinko and did you see his (most recent) crash? Would be interesting to hear your perspective on aeronautical decision making or lack thereof.
Juan, how do I recommend somebody for a 709 ride?
damn thats true. I was gonna say add some trees but...
"I'm gonna wrap this one up here"
*Maverick appears padding around up to his kneck in pondwater*
Lol I never have seen anyone spell it "kneck", that's funny
Already a year since the house build - hard to believe. Landscaping result looks terrific - that's a lot of sod!. You are lucky guys.

Patiently waiting for radio controlled boat and seaplane videos.
Floats on the rc Kitfox ?
Day 2 of patiently waiting for Trent to do a rc boat and float plane video

Looks awesome! I think you did a great job on the pond.
Nice job landscaping! Love that Pond!
Like the dog I love the pond and the lawn. It was worth the effort to achieve that with the bonus of fire fighting water in reserve
Yes! Glad you added a video about this. I was curious after we talked about it on IG. Thanks Trent
Love the house update!!!
Please making these videos as well, you'll even get some homestead/builder followers to migrate over here.

Super beautiful Trent!! Can't wait to see the hangar.
I think you’d have fun with one of those mini RC Pro Boats in that front pond, plus you could also try one of those new robot mowers for the yard 👌👍
I wonder WHY you don't see many large landscaped ponds on desert hilltops?
I was wondering where all that water came from... I didn't expect to find large reserves of underground water in the middle of badlands. Interesting..
@@gregoirepainchaud Water's there...until it's not. During summer months evaporation will take over 36 gallons an hour from that pond.
