- On the occasion of the 95th birth anniversary of our beloved MS Amma, we at Paramparaa1916 are very happy to share this vintage video recording of Smt M.S. and Smt Radha performing at the "Mummoorthigal Vizha" at Tiruvarur in 1986. The song rendered is Muttuswami Dikshitar's immortal "Kamalaambike Aashrita Kalpalatike" on the Goddess of Tiruvarur in Todi raga. Apart from the mesmerising performance it is also equally heartening to see Brahmasri Semmangudi Srinivasa Aiyar sitting in the audience lost in the delectable ocean of Todi. Unfortunately we do not possess the entire concert recording, only this one song.

The prestigious Navavarna Kriti of Deekshitar sung by no less MS AMMA for whom as if this Kriti was composed by younger of Musical Trinity, which is of highest calibre of our Carnatic music system. MS AMMA is herself a manifestation of Goddess Kamalambika of Thiruvarur.
"కమలాంబికే ఆశ్రిత కల్పలతికే చండికే" అన్న మొదటిది ధ్యాన కీర్తన. తోడి రాగము - రూపక తాళములో నున్నది.
శ్రీ కమలాంబికా! ఆశ్రిత భక్తులకు కల్పవృక్షమా! చండికా! కమనీయ అరుణాంశుకధారిణీ! లీలాశుకహస్తా! బ్రహ్మాది పూజిత పాదపద్మా! వరదా! కమలాలయ తీర్థ వైభవా! శివా! కరుణా సముద్రా! సకలలోక నాయకీ! సంగీత రసికా! సుకవిత్వప్రదాయినీ! సుందరీ! గతమాయా! ముక్తిదాన నిపుణా! పాపహారిణీ! ఆకాశాది పంచభూత రంజిత చరణా! అరుణా! గురుగుహ కరుణా! సదాశివాంతఃకరణా! మాతృకా వర్ణ రూపిణీ! అఖండైకరససంపూర్ణా! జగదంబికే! నన్ను రక్షింపుము. - అని ఈ కీర్తన అర్థం.
ఈ కీర్తనలో ముత్తుస్వామి దీక్షితులు - జగన్మాత సాకార రూపమును, ఆమె దాక్షిణ్యాది లక్షణాలను ఘనంగా ప్రస్తుతించారు. మనోహరమైన ఎర్రని అంశుకమును ధరించి, చేతిలో లీలా శుకమును ధరించి, బ్రహ్మాది దేవతలచేత కూడా పూజింప బడే పాదపద్మములు కలది ఆ జగన్మాత. ఇది ఆమె సాకార స్వరూపము. తనను ఆశ్రయించిన భక్తకోటికి కల్పవృక్షము, కరుణార్ణవత్వము, సకల లోకాధిపత్యము, సంగీత రసికత్వము, సుకవిత్వ ప్రదాయిత్వము, మాయాతీత లక్షణము, పంచాశద్వర్ణ మాతృకా స్వరూపము., సదాశివ అంతఃకరణ తత్త్వము అనేవి ఆ తల్లి కరుణా లక్షణములు! ఇందులోని విశేషణములన్నీ ప్రథమావిభక్తిలో ఉన్నాయి.
సకుంకుమ విలేపనా మళిక చుంబి కస్తూరికాం|
సమందహసితేక్షణాం సశరచాప పాశాంకుశాం |
అశేషజమోహినీమరుణమాల్యభూషాంబరాం |
జపాకుసుమ భాసురాం జపనిధౌ స్మరేదంబికాం ||
ఎర్రని పూలమాలలు, ఎర్రని రత్నహారములు, ఎర్రని వస్త్రములు ధరించి, జపాకుసుమ కాంతితో విరాజిల్లుతూ, అశేష జనులను మొహిమ్పజేసే ఆ దివ్య స్వరూపిణి పూజా సమయంలో స్మరిస్తూ భజించటం సంప్రదాయం!
కాలిదాస మహాకవి కూడా - "జయసంగీత రసికే, జయ లీలాశుకప్రియే" అని ఆ జగన్మాత స్వరూపాన్ని కీర్తించాడు.
శ్రీ శంకర భగవత్పాదులు తమ సౌందర్యలహరిలో - "అతస్త్వామారాధ్యాం హరిహర విరించాదిభిరపి" అని హరిహర హిరణ్యగర్భులందరి చేతనూ పూజింపబడే ఆ శక్తి స్వరూపిణిని అభివర్ణించారు.
ఈవిధంగా ఆమె సాకార స్వరూపాన్ని ప్రత్యక్షీకరింపజేసి, భక్తుల హృదయాలలో పదిలపరచటానికి మహాకవివతంసులు చేసిన ప్రయత్నాన్నే దీక్షితుల వారు కూడా తమ ధ్యానకీర్తనలో చేసినట్లు స్పష్టమవుతుంది.
ఇక ఈ కీర్తనలోని మిగిలిన విశేషణములు ఆ జగన్మాత నిరాకర స్వరూప వర్ణములు. అమ్మవారి స్వరూప స్వభావాలను అభివర్ణిస్తూ చేసిన శ్రీ లలితా సహస్ర నామావళి లోని భక్తిమత్కల్పలతికా, కరుణామృత సాగరా, కావ్యకళా, కైవల్యపదదాయినీ, సర్వారుణా, మాయాతీతా, వర్ణ రూపిణీ - అన్న నామములే ఈ కీర్తనలో చక్కగా పొదగబడినాయి.
కీర్తన చివర - 'అకచటతపాదివర్గే' అని సంబోధించారు. వర్ణమాలలో అకచటతపయశ అనునవి ఆయా వర్గముల ఆద్యక్షరములు. అందువలన పంచాశద్వర్ణములు ధ్వనితమై 'వర్ణరూపిణీ' అన్న నామమును సార్థకము చేస్తున్నది.
ఈవిధంగా దీక్షితుల వారు ఈ ధ్యాన కీర్తనలో అమ్మవారి బహిరంతస్స్వరూపాన్ని కళ్ళకు కట్టినట్లు అభివర్ణించారు.
ఆ తరువాత తొమ్మిది కీర్తనలలో శ్రీదేవికి ప్రతీకయైన శ్రీచక్రములోని నవావరణములను, వాటిలోని ఆవరణ దేవతలను, ఇతర విశేషములను వర్ణించారు.

Muthuswami Dikshitar's immortal "Kamalaambike Aashrita Kalpalatike" on the Goddess of Tiruvarur in Todi raga. Here the monumental keerthana of Dikshitar is sung by MS in her honeyed tone. Charanam is exceptionally melodious while the Todi's eloquence and by the sahitya vinyasam @ 'Viyadaadi Bhoota Kirane Vinoda Charane Arune' . No words to say the exclusiveness of MS' Amma's rendition duly suported by Amma Radha Viswanathan.

The Kamalambal temple is at Tiruvarur - one of the largest and greatest temples of India - Tiruvarur Thyagaraja Temple - Sri Muthuswamy Dikshatar, Shyama Shastry and the great Thyagarajar all hail from Tiruvarur - the pond (kolam) is called Kamalalayam and is huge - possibly the second largest for any temple after Rajamannar of Mannargudi

The temple is at Tiruvaroor. It is a bit difficult to find this particular temple in the temple complex. As u enter, the temple through the tank entrance, immediately turn to left after HRC office. Small temple at one corner. but great temple.
