The only people who think Floor is better are those who discovered Nightwish 15 minutes ago and are trying to convince themselves they didn't miss the best era of the band. Floor is a good singer, but Nightwish with Tarja was magical. It's as simple as that.
I discovered Nightwish in a record shop years ago in Switzerland whilst on holiday. It was Tarja`s voice that won me over. Yes, Floor is great but Tarja is Nightwish.
That's not true really. I've been a Nightwish fan since the start and I think Floor is the greatest. Not that I didn't appreciate both the other singers who certainly had their strengths, but were both somewhat limited in their style. Floor however can sing in just about any style and can do what both of them could do plus a whole world of other as well. Floor and Anette of course were better English speakers, whereas Tarja had a very pronounced accent that didn't always come across right.
There are songs that ONLY belong to Tarja, this one is one of them, along with Everdream, cause her Hyperoperatic voice! Only her cannot be struggling. She was the BEST!
She was with them for nine years. They have made 5 studio albums with. Two is with their second singer and now they have made two with Floor. Tarja also has a great solo career.
I have Tarja's first solo album. The first song was absolutely wonderful. The rest? A bit meh. And she MURDERED Alice Cooper's "Poison". I was so disappointed by that one as I had anticipated that song being great with her voice, but it sounded like she almost couldn't be bothered.

@TheRealRedAce I highly recommend listening to In the Raw, too. In my opinion, My Winter Storm is her weakest solo album. On the album In the Raw, Tarja wrote all of the songs except You and I, which she only changed some lyrics.
Tarja was the first singer for NW she was with them for almost 10yrs. ‘96-‘05 Tuomas and Tarja were friends from music classes. NW was suppose to be acoustic mood music but bc Tarja has a strong voice they decided the heavier instruments suited her sound. Personally, the music from the Tarja era is my favorite NW era. I’ve been a fan of theirs since their second album Ocean born in ‘98. However, bc NW music is diverse I think Floor is the perfect fit for them. She has a versatile ability to match the various change ups within their music.
I only say that those who think Tarja can't do diverse styles probabaly are not familiar with her solo work. She does many different things including her work with Outlanders.

Tarja was sick in this show, her tired voice is noticeable but she can reach much higher and much lower notes. I recommend Supremacy or Victim of Ritual (Woodstock) from her solo career.

You may want to check out her version with Steve n Seagulls. It's a very different blue grass polka version with a higher more fun tempo. Tarja co-founded nw and was with the band till 2005
It is indeed weird to see and hear somebody else then Tarja performing Nightwish songs! Floor will never do it for me with them! So different can perception be! ^^
The Nightwish that you know and love would not exist without Tarja. Tuomas did not intend to create a metal band much less help create a genre called symphonic metal. It was Tarja's amazing rich dark opera vocals that inspired him. Sadly the band grew apart from her and they fired her in a horrible fashion right after this concert. But that was long ago and Tarja went on and has a very successful solo career and Nightwish carried on with Anette and now Floor. Please remember as you continue your journey into this band that each singer brings something special and brings Tuomas's music to life

This is the Nightwish i grew up on when they were just starting out doing local shows around our area, my dad dragged us to see Nightwish on every small summer festival they played. It's much like the classic line up of Stratovarius, it will never be topped, the sound was what made them what they are and is still the gold standard for their musical careers. It's still amazing to me that people around the world like this tiny band from the middle of nowhere who in my memory were just playing small gigs around eastern Finlands tiny villages...
Tarja was in Nightwish from beginning. We can easily say there would be NO Nightwish without her. And with all respect to Floor, he can't come even close to Tarja. In few words: Tarja IS Nightwish and what we have now is just a pale copy of the original.

Tuomas the keyboardist is from a town of 9000. Tarja was his classmate since they were 6-7. She is classically trained. He wanted her to sign in his band at 18. But with the folkrock music her voice overpowered the music. So he had an inspiration: play to her voice. Hence NW and symphonic metal and 10 years/5 albums. Almost all their songs were written for her and her voice. Floor is amazing but NW is different and more metal. There is no reason to compare. But Tarja made NW.
I met NIghtwish with Tarja as lead singer loooong time ago; when she left, I was destroyed. Floor is a Queen, she is extremelly tallented and good, I love her so much, but, ladies and gentlmen, for me, just for me, Tarja was, and will always be, NIghtwish. Such a GODDESS!!!!
Nightwish is Finnish gift to metal music 🤘I love Emppu's guitar solo here so beautiful ❤ and always matches a song. Tuomas Holopainen (keyboards) writes and composes this beautiful music. I love Jukka's drumming 🥁 in every song when he was Nightwish drummer. I love his style that no one have 😊
Of course...she is the original singer, founding member and the one who does this song better than anybody in the globe. After her era...replacements and substitutes took the role. With her they made 5 albums which is more than those later replacements together at the same time they made the giant leap from a school band to leader of the genre globally. They knew from childhood each other and just guess what inspired Tuomas to make these masterpiece songs.
Tarja and Floor are great, however do not forget pay attention to Anette, the second female singer of Nightwish. Unfortunately live on stage not always succesful. Nevertheless with her smooth, sooth, and a little bit squaerky voice she had an important influence on the development of Nightwish in 25 years time. Highly recommended for your comments on this channel are her studio performances of Meadows of Heaven, Eva, Turn loose the Mermaids, also The Crow The Owl and the Dove. Even her live performances of Scaretale and Slow Love Slow are not that bad.
Like a million comments here and only two i could see mentioning Anette. Thank you for including her also. I love all three but no matter how much some people seem to dislike Anette she is still a huge part of Nightwish historiy. And I adore her two albums with Nightwish
Scaretale and Slow Love Slow are quite a departure from Nightwish' traditional style, but they suit Anette incredibly well and it shows. Probably gave here more confidence on stage so she could do them live better than some others. I love both songs and to me they're the best of Anette era.

Hello from Finland. And by that introduction you probably guess my take on this. Tatja was THE 1st and very much big part of NW climbing to fame from small Finnish clubs and venue's. And what comes for the toned down version of Nightwish. Heh, just check songs like I wish I had an Angel, wishmaster, End of all Hope, Nemo, etc. All the above were written when Tarja was the vocalist. Band started to get attention with this Sleeping Sun song, as well as Nemo. Those pretty much got all over the European radio Playlists. But like often is the case once you start getting to bigger venue's, World tours and such comes out the leaches that want to suck you dry. Enter Tarja's husband Marcello. He really did not get along amongst NW band member's or crew. He(As Tarja's "manager") started demanding better and bigger venue's, more money, certain times that his wife needed total silence in hotel where they were staying at. Traveling in different vehicles, so that Band had their own bus and Marcello and Tarja came with another car. He was the wedge between Band and Tarja and that started to have implications. In very public open letter Tuomas and the band told the whole world what kind of Diva she had become. They were suppose to be family, doing what they love. In that letter band reminded Tarja that she had said once the following, "I could leave the band tomorrow and have a career as singer, I am Nightwish". That hurt especially Tuomas who is was and IS the person who founded the band and wrote and composed nearly 99% of all the songs they played. After she got booted from the band many NW fans were shocked. Some started blaming band and Tuomas especially, even then Prime Minister took a stand and made an statement. Unfortunately that was not as PM but more in personal level. It was more like his opinion rather than official statement from government. Then came Anette Olson, and fans did not like that change at all. She was put to impossible place, and when people heard her sing it was even more gasoline to the fire that was the disappointment and frustration on fans part. She was a good singer. But was she really fit for NW at that time? Not necessarily, but she was a solution to problem and Tuomas adjusted accordingly. Music was vastly different. And hilariously enough the best selling Album by NW at the time. Not sure if it still is. Song's like Storytime, Amaranth were in that album. However Anette was thrown in to such a world wind of emotions and touring that she started having health issues. Tarja was lead some 9yrs(96-2005) ,Anette was through 2005-2012. Floor came in middle of the American tour of 2012 as fill in singer. Was made permanent member after 2013 Tour was done. In Wacken 2013 Floor had been in band little under 10 months at that point. And you are correct in that after I've heard Floor do Storytime and many other old NW Song's, I can't believe that those weren't songs made for her. Exceptions are there ofc. Like sleeping sun, Nemo, Siren, Meadows of Heaven, Scary tale. Those are songs from Tarja/Anette Era, and they made those songs so memorable for most of us that Floor cannot ever compete on those. Obviously she does amazing job, but Nemo is better with Tarja singing, Slow Love slow is better sang by Anette. Sorry for the long comment, stay safe and healthy. When Tarja was attacked on stage it was Marcello who came to her rescue whilst the band members did nothing. Not surprising he wanted better for her then what she got.
I love both Tarja and Floor's Edition of songs, Some Tarja is beter but thats maybe because i'm an old nightwish fan and i'm used to hear Tarja in a certain way for those songs but there is a Floor version of this Song and it is also very good. I would recommend you do that version too.
You can love both singers. Floor really has done a good job with the back catalog people really respect her. There’s not many people that could replace Tarja she’s one of a kind
If you love Floor Jansen so much you should learn to pronounce her name correctly 😅 As for feeling weird listening to Tarja after having heard Floor, well, for us who followed Nightiwsh and heard Tarja first, we "feel weird" listening to Floor sing the songs made specially for Tarja.

I always try to listen the songs with Floor Jasen, but i always find that something is missing, i always return to Tarja, her voice was the heart of Nightwish.
She's their first singer they came out in 94 so they're 20 some years into their career they went through three singers floor was the last I'm pretty sure she joined in about 2009 or 14 or something so taria is the original metal Queen but floor is also the metal Queen and so is Annette their second singer she gets no credit and she was good too all three singers kick ass you rock
Sleeping Sun is one of the few i like with Tarja a bit more because on some the operatic starts to feel pretensious to me but in this one that extra oomph it gives it specially by the end fits it more i feel.
I was just thinking that, in only a few short days, Floor will have hit her 10 year anniversary of being with Nightwish, first as a touring vocalist on Oct 3, 2012 and then as a permanent member in 2013 - the longest of all the front ladies

Tarja was the first female Vocalist i whitnessed back in the 90`s, together with this Band, that absolute enchanted me with their Music. Depends how you count them, but the first 4 Albums are absolute Legends for me. Her Kick out of the Band was an harsh aprubt rumble with no Style at All from both Sides only She Herself didnt really go in Attack Mode, like the Band and Her Husband. After Her, Nightwish started to exist again for me in 2013 at Wacken, where i more or less were pushed into Floor and from Start hyped. But as extraordinary Floor do the old Songs, and make them her own, i always will sway in absolute glorified Memories of my twens and 30`s never forget what Tarja and NW did give us back then, and still love to hear that. Granted... Tarja Turunen's tenure in Nightwish ended in 2005 after she was fired from the band... She does deserve so much credit as the original singer of Nightwish. The whole reason Nightwish evolved from Tuomas' acoustic folk project to a larger-than-life operatic metal ensemble in 1997 was because of Tarja's voice, which inspired him to write the first Nightwish album 'Angels fall first'... Tuomas did the male vocals on it, but realized he was better off not singing and hired others to sing the male lead on his songs. Tarja had this remarkable operatic voice that put Nightwish way ahead of the pack by 2000 by their 3rd album 'Wishmaster'... Marco Hietala (bass) joined the band in 2001 and assumed the male vocalist role in 2002 on the album 'Century child'... Early Nightwish fans hated on Marco - they did not want him singing next to this royalty presence that Tarja exuded on stage, and she was exceptional at the stage presence, outfits and overall presentation... Neither Floor (nor the 2nd singer Anette Olzen) replicated what she brought to Nightwish. Tarja was fired in 2005 after financial disagreements and her tardiness on tour and rehearsals was causing Nightwish to lose opportunities... like breaking big in North America and Asia. Tarja's solo records are quite impressive... but she is notable for recording 5 studio albums (and 1 EP) w/ Nightwish... Floor has to perform a bulk of her songs on tour.
@@Boa_Omega That wasn't true at all... the band can't "add" dates without informing Tarja (she does need to get paid too!) In fact, Nightwish had to CANCEL a 2nd US tour being planned because Tarja would not agree to the money they would get (smaller club shows, less money... Tarja said 'no')

That was the point of contention - Nightwish would send them offers to play, and they would come back w/ demands which they could not meet. According to the Nightwish camp, an Oslo concert was sold out in advance and Tarja cancelled it at the last minute... The US tour being cancelled because the offer was rejected by Tarja and her husband did not help matters... And then Tarja going public w/ plans to record a solo album and telling the Nightwish camp she would do 1 more album w/ the band was the last straw. She never showed up for rehearsals for the last show which was filmed. A band cannot work if the lead singer is holding their career and opportunities hostage. Look at Tarja's career now - she doesn't tour much... She's happy playing occasional dates and working in the studio. Nightwish wanted to tour N. America because they wanted to break big there - The first show there in 2007 w/ Anette was in a tiny club (Jaxx) in N. Virginia for little money. That instead of bigger shows in Europe or S. America... I saw them play First Ave in Minneapolis on that tour to about 1500 people... I think they did 3 runs in the US, all in clubs & small theaters... Does that sound like a band pursuing "more money"?
There are three eras with three different female singers: First Era: Tarja Turunen from Finland (1996 - 2005) Second Era: Anette Olzon from Sweden (2005 - 2012) Third era: Floor Jansen from The Nederland (2012 - present)
I feel the same way, but the other way around. I got into Nightwish in 1998 and although I sincerely adore Floor, Nightwish wasn't Nightwish to me anymore after Tarja left.
You might want to check out Floor guesting with Tarja’s band on Over the Hills and Far Away. They’re good friends and it comes out very strongly in that performance.
Tarja was just part of a different era and she was perfect for it with songs like this. The interesting thing about Nightwish is how they have evolved rather than forcing the 3 different singers all into the same style and there are fantastic songs throughout. Tuomas to me is the most underrated songwriter of our time "The darkness around me shores of a solar sea" against the melody of this track... People don't write to this level any more
@Schnell Jordan. I grew up with Tarja. Floor is very good! But, Tarja is the Witch Queen, she puts listeners at her concerts in trances. In my Opnion Tarja for that reason alone, is way better than Floor! Just saying, my opinion.
Listen to Tarja & Marko on Phantom of the opera. That's the best one I heard from her. Your neighbor from the other side of the Lake. I live 150yds from Lake Ontario.

there are some songs that are just tarja only. like sleeping sun, ever dream, nemo, dark chest of wonders, wish i had an angel, wishmaster, over rthe hills and far away and there are a couple others as well.
Nightwish were lucky enough to catch lightning in a bottle twice! I was one of those that thought Tarja was irreplaceable until Floor Jansen came along, but Floor is to Nightwish what Brian Johnson is to AC/DC - different to the original singer but no less great!
I love Tarja. Yet listening to Nightwish. Always felt like something was missing. Then came Annette. Thought nope. Then Floor joined. An yes, that's what was missing. A singer with just as much power, versatility, styles as the band.

Not Ever Dream, IMO. I would have said Kuolema Tekee Taitalijan, on which she was great. Tarja did struggle with English pronunciation.

Tarja Turunen is the original singer in the band Nightwish and after that there have been 2 other singers, the other one being Anette Olzon and the last one is the newly arrived Floor Jansen.
Not really newly arrived. Floor has been with them for 10 years. I love this song sung by both Tarja and Floor. I can't choose a favorite.

It is indeed weird to see and hear somebody else then Tarja performing Nightwish songs! Floor will never do it for me with them! So different can perception be! ^^
90% There are some arrangements were Floor sounds a bit better with her voice. Ghost love score for example. Floor totally stole it for me.
The Nightwish that you know and love would not exist without Tarja. Tuomas did not intend to create a metal band much less help create a genre called symphonic metal. It was Tarja's amazing rich dark opera vocals that inspired him.
Sadly the band grew apart from her and they fired her in a horrible fashion right after this concert. But that was long ago and Tarja went on and has a very successful solo career and Nightwish carried on with Anette and now Floor.

Because of strained relationship Tuomas and Tarja were together for 9 years, recorded 5 albums and highest number of songs in history of band))). Tuomas had a hostile relationship with Tarja's husband.
This is the Nightwish i grew up on when they were just starting out doing local shows around our area, my dad dragged us to see Nightwish on every small summer festival they played. It's much like the classic line up of Stratovarius, it will never be topped, the sound was what made them what they are and is still the gold standard for their musical careers. It's still amazing to me that people around the world like this tiny band from the middle of nowhere who in my memory were just playing small gigs around eastern Finlands tiny villages...
Tarja was in Nightwish from beginning. We can easily say there would be NO Nightwish without her. And with all respect to Floor, he can't come even close to Tarja. In few words: Tarja IS Nightwish and what we have now is just a pale copy of the original.
You have got to react to Tarja doing a heavy song with Nightwish. Marko does some crazy vocals too.

Tuomas the keyboardist is from a town of 9000. Tarja was his classmate since they were 6-7. She is classically trained. He wanted her to sign in his band at 18. But with the folkrock music her voice overpowered the music. So he had an inspiration: play to her voice. Hence NW and symphonic metal and 10 years/5 albums. Almost all their songs were written for her and her voice. Floor is amazing but NW is different and more metal. There is no reason to compare. But Tarja made NW.
I met NIghtwish with Tarja as lead singer loooong time ago; when she left, I was destroyed. Floor is a Queen, she is extremelly tallented and good, I love her so much, but, ladies and gentlmen, for me, just for me, Tarja was, and will always be, NIghtwish. Such a GODDESS!!!!
My first Nightwish experience was with Floor 2013 in Wacken.Nevertheless, I can enjoy both voices. Who I prefer depends on my mood and the song.

Of course...she is the original singer, founding member and the one who does this song better than anybody in the globe. After her era...replacements and substitutes took the role. With her they made 5 albums which is more than those later replacements together at the same time they made the giant leap from a school band to leader of the genre globally. They knew from childhood each other and just guess what inspired Tuomas to make these masterpiece songs.

Going through the WIN95 WIN98 era and finding Tarja Nightwish was amazing. The open letter announcement was crushing.

Tarja and Floor are great, however do not forget pay attention to Anette, the second female singer of Nightwish. Unfortunately live on stage not always succesful. Nevertheless with her smooth, sooth, and a little bit squaerky voice she had an important influence on the development of Nightwish in 25 years time. Highly recommended for your comments on this channel are her studio performances of Meadows of Heaven, Eva, Turn loose the Mermaids, also The Crow The Owl and the Dove. Even her live performances of Scaretale and Slow Love Slow are not that bad.
Like a million comments here and only two i could see mentioning Anette. Thank you for including her also. I love all three but no matter how much some people seem to dislike Anette she is still a huge part of Nightwish historiy.

Scaretale and Slow Love Slow are quite a departure from Nightwish' traditional style, but they suit Anette incredibly well and it shows. Probably gave here more confidence on stage so she could do them live better than some others. I love both songs and to me they're the best of Anette era.

Hello from Finland. And by that introduction you probably guess my take on this. Tatja was THE 1st and very much big part of NW climbing to fame from small Finnish clubs and venue's.
And what comes for the toned down version of Nightwish. Heh, just check songs like I wish I had an Angel, wishmaster, End of all Hope, Nemo, etc. All the above were written when Tarja was the vocalist. Band started to get attention with this Sleeping Sun song, as well as Nemo. Those pretty much got all over the European radio Playlists. But like often is the case once you start getting to bigger venue's, World tours and such comes out the leaches that want to suck you dry.
Enter Tarja's husband Marcello. He really did not get along amongst NW band member's or crew. He(As Tarja's "manager") started demanding better and bigger venue's, more money, certain times that his wife needed total silence in hotel where they were staying at. Traveling in different vehicles, so that Band had their own bus and Marcello and Tarja came with another car. He was the wedge between Band and Tarja and that started to have implications.
In very public open letter Tuomas and the band told the whole world what kind of Diva she had become. They were suppose to be family, doing what they love. In that letter band reminded Tarja that she had said once the following, "I could leave the band tomorrow and have a career as singer, I am Nightwish". That hurt especially Tuomas who is was and IS the person who founded the band and wrote and composed nearly 99% of all the songs they played.
After she got booted from the band many NW fans were shocked. Some started blaming band and Tuomas especially, even then Prime Minister took a stand and made an statement. Unfortunately that was not as PM but more in personal level. It was more like his opinion rather than official statement from government.
Then came Anette Olson, and fans did not like that change at all. She was put to impossible place, and when people heard her sing it was even more gasoline to the fire that was the disappointment and frustration on fans part.
She was a good singer. But was she really fit for NW at that time? Not necessarily, but she was a solution to problem and Tuomas adjusted accordingly. Music was vastly different. And hilariously enough the best selling Album by NW at the time. Not sure if it still is.
Song's like Storytime, Amaranth were in that album. However Anette was thrown in to such a world wind of emotions and touring that she started having health issues. Tarja was lead some 9yrs(96-2005) ,Anette was through 2005-2012. Floor came in middle of the American tour of 2012 as fill in singer. Was made permanent member after 2013 Tour was done. In Wacken 2013 Floor had been in band little under 10 months at that point. And you are correct in that after I've heard Floor do Storytime and many other old NW Song's, I can't believe that those weren't songs made for her.
Exceptions are there ofc. Like sleeping sun, Nemo, Siren, Meadows of Heaven, Scary tale. Those are songs from Tarja/Anette Era, and they made those songs so memorable for most of us that Floor cannot ever compete on those. Obviously she does amazing job, but Nemo is better with Tarja singing, Slow Love slow is better sang by Anette.

When Tarja was attacked on stage it was Marcello who came to her rescue whilst the band members did nothing. Not surprising he wanted better for her then what she got.

I love both Tarja and Floor's Edition of songs, Some Tarja is beter but thats maybe because i'm an old nightwish fan and i'm used to hear Tarja in a certain way for those songs but there is a Floor version of this Song and it is also very good. I would recommend you do that version too.
I first got to know Nightwish with Floor, but I can only agree with you. Personally, I enjoy the music with both.
You can love both singers. Floor really has done a good job with the back catalog people really respect her. There’s not many people that could replace Tarja she’s one of a kind

As for feeling weird listening to Tarja after having heard Floor, well, for us who followed Nightiwsh and heard Tarja first, we "feel weird" listening to Floor sing the songs made specially for Tarja.

Floor sings the hell out of this song, but to me, this will ALWAYS be Tarja's song.
I always try to listen the songs with Floor Jasen, but i always find that something is missing, i always return to Tarja, her voice was the heart of Nightwish.

She's their first singer they came out in 94 so they're 20 some years into their career they went through three singers floor was the last I'm pretty sure she joined in about 2009 or 14 or something so taria is the original metal Queen but floor is also the metal Queen and so is Annette their second singer she gets no credit and she was good too all three singers kick ass you rock

Sleeping Sun is one of the few i like with Tarja a bit more because on some the operatic starts to feel pretensious to me but in this one that extra oomph it gives it specially by the end fits it more i feel.

I was just thinking that, in only a few short days, Floor will have hit her 10 year anniversary of being with Nightwish, first as a touring vocalist on Oct 3, 2012 and then as a permanent member in 2013 - the longest of all the front ladies

Tarja is goddess when she sings, when Floor is just brilliant .
The First 5 albums were Tarja the original vocalist up to 2005
Tarja was the first female Vocalist i whitnessed back in the 90`s, together with this Band, that absolute enchanted me with their Music. Depends how you count them, but the first 4 Albums are absolute Legends for me. Her Kick out of the Band was an harsh aprubt rumble with no Style at All from both Sides only She Herself didnt really go in Attack Mode, like the Band and Her Husband.
After Her, Nightwish started to exist again for me in 2013 at Wacken, where i more or less were pushed into Floor and from Start hyped.
But as extraordinary Floor do the old Songs, and make them her own, i always will sway in absolute glorified Memories of my twens and 30`s never forget what Tarja and NW did give us back then, and still love to hear that. There is no Comparison for me, there are two eras of outstanding Music and Performance ,each of them in their Timeline.

Granted... Tarja Turunen's tenure in Nightwish ended in 2005 after she was fired from the band... She does deserve so much credit as the original singer of Nightwish. The whole reason Nightwish evolved from Tuomas' acoustic folk project to a larger-than-life operatic metal ensemble in 1997 was because of Tarja's voice, which inspired him to write the first Nightwish album 'Angels fall first'... Tuomas did the male vocals on it, but realized he was better off not singing and hired others to sing the male lead on his songs.
Tarja had this remarkable operatic voice that put Nightwish way ahead of the pack by 2000 by their 3rd album 'Wishmaster'... Marco Hietala (bass) joined the band in 2001 and assumed the male vocalist role in 2002 on the album 'Century child'... Early Nightwish fans hated on Marco - they did not want him singing next to this royalty presence that Tarja exuded on stage, and she was exceptional at the stage presence, outfits and overall presentation... Neither Floor (nor the 2nd singer Anette Olzen) replicated what she brought to Nightwish.
Tarja was fired in 2005 after financial disagreements and her tardiness on tour and rehearsals was causing Nightwish to lose opportunities... like breaking big in North America and Asia. Tarja's solo records are quite impressive... but she is notable for recording 5 studio albums (and 1 EP) w/ Nightwish... Floor has to perform a bulk of her songs on tour.
It was the band adding dates without telling her or ignoring the fact her voice needed to rest in pursuit of more money.

In fact, Nightwish had to CANCEL a 2nd US tour being planned because Tarja would not agree to the money they would get (smaller club shows, less money... Tarja said 'no')

@@Boa_Omega That is a Lie. The band could not book shows without her or her husband's (also her personal manager) written approval... That was the point of contention - Nightwish would send them offers to play, and they would come back w/ demands which they could not meet.
According to the Nightwish camp, an Oslo concert was sold out in advance and Tarja cancelled it at the last minute... The US tour being cancelled because the offer was rejected by Tarja and her husband did not help matters... And then Tarja going public w/ plans to record a solo album and telling the Nightwish camp she would do 1 more album w/ the band was the last straw.
She never showed up for rehearsals for the last show which was filmed.
A band cannot work if the lead singer is holding their career and opportunities hostage. Look at Tarja's career now - she doesn't tour much... She's happy playing occasional dates and working in the studio.
Nightwish wanted to tour N. America because they wanted to break big there - The first show there in 2007 w/ Anette was in a tiny club (Jaxx) in N. Virginia for little money. That instead of bigger shows in Europe or S. America...
I saw them play First Ave in Minneapolis on that tour to about 1500 people... I think they did 3 runs in the US, all in clubs & small theaters... Does that sound like a band pursuing "more money"?
There are three eras with three different female singers:
First Era: Tarja Turunen from Finland (1996 - 2005)
Second Era: Anette Olzon from Sweden (2005 - 2012)
Third era: Floor Jansen from The Nederland (2012 - present)
I feel the same way, but the other way around. I got into Nightwish in 1998 and although I sincerely adore Floor, Nightwish wasn't Nightwish to me anymore after Tarja left.

Why watch Floor perform Tajra songs? That's like watching Dio perform Ozzy songs when he joined Black Sabbath.
Tarja was just part of a different era and she was perfect for it with songs like this. The interesting thing about Nightwish is how they have evolved rather than forcing the 3 different singers all into the same style and there are fantastic songs throughout.
Tuomas to me is the most underrated songwriter of our time

Nightwish were lucky enough to catch lightning in a bottle twice! I was one of those that thought Tarja was irreplaceable until Floor Jansen came along, but Floor is to Nightwish what Brian Johnson is to AC/DC - different to the original singer but no less great!
