The lead singer is Oscar and Emmy award winner Danny Elfman. He is a true legend!!! He's done scores for over 100 feature films and his abridged list includes Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, Batman, Edward Scissorhands, Wednesday, Darkman, A Simple Plan, Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2, Meet the Robinsons, and Good Will Hunting. He wrote music for all of the Men in Black and Fifty Shades of Grey franchise films, as well as the songs and score for The Nightmare Before Christmas, and the themes for the popular television series Desperate Housewives and The Simpsons.
he's also married to Bridget Fonda (Peter Fonda's - Easy Rider...daughter), Jane Fonda's niece, and Henry Fonda's granddaughter. She is from a film family dynasty who starred in films' like The Godfather III, La Femme Nikita, Kiss of the Dragon, and Easy Rider (with her father when she was only 4 yrs. old)etc..
WELL DONE!!
He was the singing voice for Jack Skellington as well, while Chris Sarandon (Prince Humperdinck in Princess Bride) was the speaking voice of Jack in The Nightmare Before Christmas.
The Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo was a musical/theatre group formed by the singer Danny Elfman’s older brother Richard Elfman. They used to perform really abstract performances and even appeared on The Gong show in the 70’s. The last thing the Mystic Knights did was a film called Forbidden Zone. After that, most of the members split along with Richard. Danny stuck it out and added more musically inclined members, dropped the Mystic Knights, and just kept it Oingo Boingo, and later released one album as just Boingo. Danny is now a solo artist and composer who has done almost every single Tim Burton film, the Simpson, and numerous super hero films. He also wrote all the songs for The Nightmare Before Christmas while providing the singing voice for Jack Skellington and a character calle Lock, and also wrote the songs and score for The corpse Bride while providing vocals for the character Bone Janggles.
I watched that Gong Show when it was originally broadcast.
@@DanaTheInsane rad!
This was one of the top party jams in the mid '80s. You couldn't go to any house party without hearing this. Such an iconic hit.
This is from their concert at The Ritz in the 80's. Just Another Day is another good song from that concert.
Danny always had some sort of a fascination with the macabre. Not in a self deletion way, as you surmise, but more of a fun quirky misfit type of way, IMO. That's why he and Tim Burton made such a great team and have done many great things together as they had a similar vision. This is the quintessential Halloween party song. Their earlier music in particular was some of the quirkier stuff you'll ever hear and the band is uber-talented and infused SKA elements with the horns, etc. New Wave is more an 80's phenomenon (& a lot of it was synth based), BTW, and was pretty much the first version of Alt-Rock, which became more guitar based in the 90's with grunge, etc. Electronica was also born in the 90's & much of that was considered Alt as well
One of the most criminally underrated bands of the 80s and early 90s...
"Don't run away. It's only me. Don't be afraid of what you can't see."
This is from the perspective of a ghost telling people not to be afraid of him. It's still only him. He's just a ghost now. But no. He's not the only person at the dead man's party because there's always "room for maybe just one more."
The band was featured w/ this song in the movie Back To School. Fun movie.
Oingo Boingo is/was a ska band w/ elements of new wave/punk, but changed to pop then later alternative rock. I'd guess this song is more ska and new wave. (I'll admit I'm not very familiar w/ much ska. Just know a few bands so far).
He had never done other kinds of music, much less a score, when his friend, Tim Burton, asked him to score one of his first films. The rest is history as he has done pretty much all the scores to Burton’s films! BTW, Oingo Boingo was pretty popular with skaters back when it had its boom and I think it was mix of New Wave, Ska and just a lot of fun and quirkiness!
He won his first OSCAR for "Batman" in 1989.Another Burton film if i remember right. He also wrote "The Simpson's'"theme
Yes. We called it new wave when I was a kid and teen growing up. 80s and 90s. This was a good band and fun.
The Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo first appeared on The Gong Show in 1976.
How do you tell a well rounded and skilled conductor, not just a musician?
By how accurate the band under their leadership sounds from studio to live.
And the quality and dexterity of the musical jigsaw puzzle they construct.
This has been my go to song for Halloween karaoke parties. It's fun and fitting at the same time.
Danny is a musical genius.
Tom Trerrific lived in oingo boingo land.
This song was the closing song for a comedy horror movie.
Speaking of theme songs he wrote the Simpson opening song. And most of Tim Burtons movies.
That's Danny Elfman leading this band. You've probably heard his film scores behind more movies than you'd believe. You might also recognize his voice as that of Jack Skellington from the Nightmare Before Christmas.
The singer is the guy who did the Simpsons intro song. He also did every Tim Burton movie you have ever watched. I identify him even more with Oingo Boingo since I love their music hahahahaha
Hell yea🤘🏼 Next you have to do Weird Science by Oingo Boingo!! Danny Elfman is a pure musical genius🤌🏼🔥 this is 💯% New Wave.
love this song! great early 80's New Wave music, often used in a lot movies at the time!!! I remember this from when I was living in Chicago at the time where & when many of these films were made, especially John Hughes films like Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Weird Science, Uncle Buck, the Breakfast club, Planes trains and automobiles, 16 candles, and many more!!!
I got to see Oingo Boingo early 90s (93?) in the Bay Area. Great show! One of my favorite bands.
It's always on my Halloween fun playlist every year.
What a fun song. Always liked it. Now, more to the point. You are so pretty! You like older guys? Not that old, just 75. There are trees older than me. Hmm. Like that’s a point in my favor. Oh well. The main thing is that I want to say that you are just precious. Don’t give yourself to anyone who doesn’t deserve you. But you know all that already. So I’ll just shut up now. Luv ya girlie!😊❤
Don't fear death, it's just something we all face is what I get from it.
They were from a musical acting troupe called "The Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo"" which the singer Danny Elfman's father was a founding member in college.
All hail the pumpkin king Danny Elfman
🎶 Don't Be Afraid ! 😨 Of What You Can't See ! 🎶 👁 👁
This is an example of when your good ... and you know it..................................................
Check out the songs: Just Another Day, No One Lives Forever, Try to Believe, Gray Matter, Only a Lad, and We Close Our Eyes
This song was used in a Tim Burton movie.
He is/was a huge fan of Prokofiev. If you’ve got the time, check out Prokofiev’s Montigues and Capulets (Romeo and Juliet). Song is a Halloween song or Day of the Dead.
Check out "Nobody Lives Forever" 1999 farewell.....this band is the best.... The mystic knights of the Oingo Boingo.
Danny chose the name of the band Oingo Boingo because he like the way the two words sound.
One of the most respected of movie scores
You'll have a hard time finding a tighter session than that.
I like the song and it sounds like one making humor about those hours after ftiends transcending...o
The partu contonues insolace.
They were in Back to School.
He looks exactly like Danny Elfman to me. ;) Born in LA to a showbiz family. Married Bridget Fonda and she quit acting.
its about a funeral
Hi Maddy, Danny Elfman was a great composer of Rock or Movies
Thank you for picking winners
over thinking it babe, it's a whimsical song, think the dance scene from the film Beetlejuice! 🙂
Oh , this takes me back ...😊
Danny Elfman did a superb work on "Mars Attacks!" He used theremin and demonstrated a deep knowledge of russian composers. A very complete and holistic musician.
fantastic fun party song to react to
woaw never heard them.love the beat.allways when a come here ill get a new song.thats nice.. love it
My favorite song from them is Insanity.
Sweet
❤Awesome!!!
He hates being called new wave.
Danny Elfman is a weird creepy guy
Geniuses are often eccentric.
I agree... but he is kinda weird looking@@jgates6645
The song itself is just about the fact that we all die. The lyrics, "I was struck by lighting, walking down the street. I was hit by something in my sleep" is a couple of people dying in different ways. Then the lyric, "...everybody's coming, leave your body and soul at the door", is just saying, that literally everyone dies at some point.
Certainly a theme on this album, since there is another fantastic song on it called, "No One Lives Forever" about the same thing.
Struck by "lighting"? Was he a rigger on a movie crew? 🤣
Sorry Maddy Danny isn't dead I worded that badly he's 70 years old
Great band, a bit new wave, a bit ska, but not either; so he got struck by lightning, now he's dead, where this exclusive dead mans party is taking place is not clear, he's waiting for an invitation, and room for just one more, but everybody's coming, leave your body and soul at the door, which kinda makes no sense but it's such a fun, goofy song and the musicianship is so good it doesn't even matter. Danny Elfman is such an incredible songwriter
This genre is called CRAP!
Love this song
