Excellent video. Great job. I had no idea how to replace the display lamps, couldnt find any videos on how to, but now i believe i can replace them. Thank you n blessings.
Great job Jordan. I always follow up the dial glass clean with a blast from a can of compressed air to remove any dust. They will show up as specs of light if you don't remove the dust & lint
Bravo. Well done. Excellent series. Always nice to get to enjoy them when finished. Ill be keeping my eye out for one of these units. I watched your A70 refoam vid and scored a pair the next day in need of foams. They sound really good, what can I say.
I got one of these from a thrift shop I worked at. How good is the sound performance on this? and is it safe to plug in if im not sure if it's ever been serviced?
Thx for posting these videos. I have a new to me Sony STR-V4 that is in good-vg condition. Just recently testing and swapping between two sets of speakers the left power meter stopped tracking the same wattage as the right power meter (it does still move, but displays like 1/10th the power, gets worse as volume is increased). Ive been told that the speaker selector switch could be the culprit and should be deoxit’ed. Do you think this is a possibility and which deoxit product should I use?
@@JordanPier thank you for responding. Both channels sound perfect and are matched in loudness when playing on matching speakers (a or b), just the meter reading on the one power meter starts dropping off properly representing the power. Someone told me it could be the speaker selector for some reason its tied to the power meters on the v4, v5, v6, v7 Sonys? I dont know if its true. Wanted to verify if save to try deoxit (not sure which d5 or f5) to use. Ive heard one deoxit cleans and the other lubricates and to never use it on some things like the tuner.
@@Markkrochuk1979 usually meters are before the speaker selector switch, but after the protection relay. I'm betting your meter drive circuit is to blame more than anything
I have a Sony STR-6046A receiver, roughly same era, that I'd love to have you work on sometime. Only problem is finding a carrier who will deliver it in one piece, from one side of the country to the other, and back again. haha "Ran when parked" about four years ago, albeit with multiple issues, though still very listenable/usable as an amp... FM tuner had probs. Had it since 1994 and it's been incredibly faithful / never serviced in that time. Half afraid to apply power now, with it sitting for so long and being so old (50ish years?).
Hi Daniel, Consider buying a variac (which limits current & voltage) and slowly give it power and gradually increase voltage until 100/220/240v whatever you have. By limiting the voltage, it gives your amplifier breathing room for all capacitors and other components to 'reform'. If you try just plugging it in and turning it on, you will experience magic smoke, or component failure. Good Luck!
If I ever send you anything for repair, like my old Pioneer or Marantz, I'm going to request the less expensive two-handed repair option😁. You need a camera intern
Those dial lamps look like someone used automotive 12V dome lamps, that would draw 417 mA at 5 watts. No wonder the reflectors were all burned up. Seen someone put wrong 7 volt fuse lamps in a Tandberg 440A cassette deck. Melted the plastic VU meters.😳
Not only do you do great work but a lot of it is one handed. Some people might not understand how hard that is to do!
That explanation of how to clean glass was just a game changer for me. Then, when you cleaned both sides 🤯🤯
Those were great receivers. I wish I still had mine.
Nice vid on doing a good cleanup on cosmetics for vintage gear! Thanks for sharing with us.

I bought a STR-7065 50 years ago with a pair of JBL L-45s. Great little receiver and I still have the JBLs.
Such a gorgeous receiver.

Turned out very nice Jordan!, I did a little digging on these, Made from 1972-74 65 WPC Great Receiver!
I listened to the ordinary radio probably last time around 20 years ago but still I love this series ;-)
Great job JP. All my best.
Excellent video series! Love your videos Jordan. Also, GREAT SAVE of a beautiful Sony.
Great work JP. Great series.
What glue did you use on the slat? Something like Elmer's wood glue?
Pro grade rubberized adhesive. Wood glue works too. This dries hella quick tho
Great work you did. The only stickler I have is with not resolving the issue with the imbalance between the channel gains. Otherwise, you did well.
Where are you located and do you do side work.
No side work. Ain't got the time. In East San Diego. Look up classic audio repair
That little lamp from the front panel looks like the dome light used in a Ford Taurus. They get hot. I burned my hand trying to remove it.
I use Dave W for my lamps. Always a great seller.

You can use deoxit d5 for switches and f5 for controls.
Does the sound (with speakers connected) get worse with the meter showing less?

@@JordanPier crud. Probably not worth fixing. I got the unit for $125. Such a shame because it’s so pretty

That's pretty incredible but I figure you've got what, $550-$700 in shop time involved if that was a customer's unit?
That's not far off.
How about white Led.
You could do that. I just have a personal preference for incandescent lampa
Taking that glass out when it was stuck made me cringe.
48:10 Boy that's pretty!
