Maybe by this time you have realized that before removing the clips of the cover of the ink tanks, you didn't have to remove the ink tank caps. Only after the clips are released, then you may remove the caps with the printer flat on the floor. Then, right after removing the cover of the ink tanks, you should have replaced the caps or covered again the ink tanks to prevent spillage. Then, you may continue with the removing or cleaning of the other parts. BTW, there is a waste ink pad just under the printer head. It has a casing removable by removing the screw at the back.
