3 of the 4 bolts are covered by the main bumper cover as I recall. You would not have to remove the bumper, but would need to remove the main bumper cover, unless you can just manage to loosen up one side to get a wrench in there. You coud leave it (main bumper cover) sort of hanging and wouldn't have to fully remove the harness etc.
Fortunately for me, once I loosened the metal bumper, it lowered the bumper down enough to open the door. The door itself sits up pretty high behind that plastic trim. perhaps over an inch from the bottom, so the damage to the door was minimal at best. had to get new body clips to reinstall the trim. One thing I don't think I showed is I hooked up my big socket wrench 4" extension to my impact, and lowered (and raised) the tire easy.
Yeah, backing up slow in a parking lot I was not familiar with. There was a low retaining wall that stuck out. Good times. Had to unpack and pack the van from the side door for the remainder of the trip.
Isn't european engineering great? Wait till you decide to service your transmission. LMAO bring your checkbook with you. Oh and chances are your local garage will NOT do the job. I have over 625 000 KMs on my van and I bought it in June 2017.
One of the best presentations on van repair I’ve seen! Thnx for the exceptional effort.
Solid video
Would I have to remove the whole bumper just to replace the end caps?

How did you open and straiten the door

As one person mentioned about some other repairs - The engineers were left unsupervised.
