I personally stopped reading Batman comics as an example back when DC introduced Morrison's self-insert Damian. No one really likes him, and they shoved him down our throats since 2006, which failed and led to the New 52 due to Morrison's horrendous ideas. Also, don't get me started on Talia. Morrison just stole other writers ideas and took her feminine character away. Easily the most pathetic villain of the entire comics, and Morrison is just a loser.
To be fair, I think Morrison actually did a good job w/Damien. It's hard to write a purposely unlikable character well. I do think it ended up causing a lot more harm than good and completely understand why he's hated. DC has added way too many characters making most books a mess and should trim a lot of them out of the main continuity. Damien and Jason in the Bat books, and GL... lordy lord w/ all the extra useless human GL's ha.
Wow $7.99 for a 22 page comic book I know it's inflation but that's way too expensive. I guess I was lucky back in the day when I would spend $.75c to $100 a piece on comic books.
The local comics shops have a god complex now. I wish all comic companies would do the subscriptions like back in the day or stock in grocery stores and pharmacy stores
The bigger blow that isn't being talked about is this is just going to further delay books getting received at local shops. Delays cause people to drop off of books, or stop impulse buys. Comic stores don't really order a ton of books hoping they sell like implied in the video, but they do rely on some impulse buys of popular books and more importantly people putting stuff on their preorders & pull lists.
Before going out of business, I predict some will become more like used record stores and sell older comics and hobby/fan goods! New comics might be available by subscription only! I hope not but the Big Two have themselves mostly to blame: by publishing more titles than there are readers!
No, they aren't reversed. But it could have been explained better. The first tier list (old) is on an annual basis, while the second tier list (new) is on a monthly basis. Then the third tier list (old again) is converted to monthly to compare with the new numbers.
"They buy comics just hoping that they'll sell" that's not at all how it works. Shops don't just randomly order comics; they look at how many customers have a certain book on their pull lists, then look at any other pre-orders they may have gotten, then order a few more (or a lot more, depending on how big they think a book will be) to put on the shelves for people who walk in off the street. You make it sound totally random but there's actually a lot of work that goes into a shop orering books. You call yourself a journalist, PLEASE do some research before you run off at the mouth talking about things you know nothing about.
This. While stores do order inventory to have it available for people who come in the day of or week of that want it, they don't typically over-order a ton of books unless there's some kind of promo or order minimum to get access to special covers or like standees. Stuff like that. Back issues of unpopular books are harder than ever to acquire locally as if books aren't selling, they probably aren't ordering much more than the preorders/pulls. It does still hurt store profits, but I guarantee this will also hurt image because they just won't sell as many copies. The discounts did encourage a little bit of over ordering for stores that could afford it. It's why comic creators are pushing harder than ever for preorders/pull list reserves. It's harder to impulse buy a book you see on the shelf that looks cool than ever. If I didn't put Snotgirl or Tin Can Society or probably even Rick Remender's upcoming "The Seasons" on my pulls, They probably wouldn't be sitting on the shelf in my shop. Scratch that, I can guarantee they wouldn't be sitting on the shelf, because they literally aren't.

@maotendoo Damian is just a self-insert and Morrison wrote the worst villain with Talia. I think that this bum should seek therapy.

They knew this was coming. The industry fiddled away in the summer, and now, it's winter.
Oh, and what a cold and bitter winter it will be.
Comic shops should shift and start promoting local creatives in their respective areas, taking a page out of the Barnes and Noble playbook.

yeah Image doesn't use Diamond as it's main distributer nor does Marvel or DC.

I used to collect Spawn comics. I still own a ton of them since I never sold them. I even graded a few of them.
I think the first two tier lists are reversed... Get it together, Rich!

@@lo1bo2 Ahh... thanks for the clarification!

Okay, but why do you like furry content?
As an exclusive manga reader, I only see this as a win. 😂
As if comics didn’t have enough problems haha, god they can’t catch a break. And with manga being 100x better they only have more problems ahead.
it doesn't help when you make 23 covers of the same comic, the karma comes back to you. Good riddance!
