Fusion 360 - Tangency to a Spline

- The sketch environment in Fusion 360 currently does not offer functions to make other sketch objects tangent to a spline.
This quick tutorial explores two workflows to accomplish hat.
Also works with ellipses.
I’ve been tearing my hair out trying to get a tangency condition like this. This was super helpful!
Man it is so stupid that we have to use complicated workarounds like this just to use a simple feature which every other CAD software has, and which clearly fusion360 also fundamentally has, but doesn't allow us to use as a sketch tool. Fusion's limitations and oversights are really starting to show themselves to me more and more
Agreed!
Love your advanced fusion tutorials
Thanks for sharing. Love your first method! however second is not nearly as optimal - it can be simplified by Ruled (Tangent) from section line (eliminates need in offset and loft), or even by Construction - plane tangent to face at point (no need in PLane at angle and Face split at all).
The advantage of the 2nd method is that it does not require another sketch. A side benefit is that it also allows you to „split“ a spline at an arbitrary point but maintain curvature continuity. Working with surfaces only, for me has the advantage that I can export geometry from Fusion 360 and use that in another application, something I unfortunately have to do from time to time as there are some areas in Fusion 360 that aren’t quite mature yet, particularly when working with surfaces.
@@TrippyLighting I get that. Working with surfaces sometimes easier and sturdier than sketches and I do the same often. My point is that starting from 4:11 you can just use Ruled [Tangent] started from split edge as it gives same result as Offset-Loft-Extend chain
@@dadapasha True, could have done that! The reason for this tutorial can be found in his thread on the Fusion 360 forum. this.forums.autodesk.com/t5/fusion-360-design-validate/compute-fail-for-tangent-circles/m-p/10420426/highlight/true#M252224
Great tutorial
Hi Peter. New Fusion user here. I noticed you make use a "sketch shortcuts" dialog. Is this dialog native to Fusion or is it an addon? If the latter, what is the name of it? Thanks.
Hit the “s” key on your keyboard. In sketch mode it brings up sketch commands.
Thanks!@@TrippyLighting
