As a consumer, this isn’t the case. I’ve noticed a lot of creatives stress over this and prevent themselves from releasing products because of it. For me, I just want a cute product that effectively works. I could care less about innovation.

There’s so much that goes into selling a product. Subtle things that consumers don’t notice that are creating a unique experience brand identity or benefit. That’s why it works. Whatever you have purchased is for a reason. You’ve been sold something and a lot of strategy goes into it

But for people on a budget, the results matter because they're looking for a solution to a given problem and they can only spend so much. If innovation promises an effective or better solution then it matters.
I think when money is short the cuteness factor is somewhat less important. There are lots of cute and hyped up products out there at all times, however every purchase needs to be justified.
If I can only spend my money on a couple products they'd better do what I expect them to do.
I think designing products for "rich or poor" so to speak is two different markets, they have different values and different boxes to check.
