Thank you, Dr. De Guzman, for sharing. I'm from San Diego, California. Your video on glaucoma is excellently presented. I've always had an interest in learning about glaucoma, and your presentation made it easy to understand, even for a non-doctor like myself. I hope to see more presentations like yours aimed at teaching optometry students in the future.
Well made video. I am an optometry student, this is the best video I can find on explaining the optic disc change. Thanks a lot.
Absolutely loved the video! A very practically and logically explained video on optic disc changes in glaucoma. I had been struggling with this. Thanks for uploading.
Right stuffs :
Optic nerve, vague nerve, pineal, pituitar, talamus, hipotalamus, frontal, back
Crazy stuffs, dude!!
thank you so much!!!, this is exactly what I was looking for, I almost cried to see how clear all the thing started to look , God Bless you
Awesome video.....this was the most appealing explanation I have ever got about glaucomatous changes in opticdisc....thank you
Thank you Dr Hannah.. fantastic lecture! Very clear and comprehensive. Optometrist Ireland.
Thank you for your video. Absolutely helpful especially for disc borders that are difficult to distinguish.
dr. hannah, thank you for this lecture. the "jumbo" disc made me smile.:)
wow!! just what I was searching for. Thanks so much.
thank you SO much for sharing, you have no idea how much you helped me. you are awesome. hugs and kisses from São Paulo!
Thanks you for a great job,
I had that picture of advanced glaucoma seven years ago and i went for the surgery. I now understand where the damage was. Though the damage has not progressed since the surgery, I am still worried how long my eyes will last. My mother got blind due to glaucoma when she was about 88 years which made me went for glaucoma screening. Thanks for this educative video
Excellent Lecture
The cupping theory was mistakenly introduced in the 1850s. In chronic glaucoma, the lamina cribrosa appears to be sinking resulting in the orderly, peripheral-to-central axotomy of nerve fibers at the scleral edge. We are working under a wrong 'cupping' paradigm.
Plz keep doing this kinda of work. Jazakallah
Excellent lecture, nice pictures and clear descriptions - General Practitioner

If any one knows kindly help me. Thanks
Thank you very much to those who have commented. If you don't mind, can you tell me if you are a general ophthalmologist, glaucoma specialist, trainee, etc? Do you work in the academic or clinical setting or both?
Happy dG Hi my name is Ken, & I was trying to find an answer about my eyes & optic nerve. You see, back in 2010, I got real sick to the point I threw up & strained the veins inside my eyes & my eyes have been inflamed each day since then & have gotten worse in pain. The root of my eyes, the optic nerves in both of my eyes keep giving me shooting piercing pains inside & keep giving me elevated pressure inside my brain & keep giving me horrible headaches. It hurts to even open my eyes as I type this information down. I have been to 3 othalmologists & non have couldn't find my diagnosis. I don't know what to do & I feel helpless in pain.
+Universal035 please share any possible treatment with me as well my problem is similar to you.
I love the voice than the lecture!
I had trabulectomy surgery last week after being diagnosed with chronic glaucoma in both eyes, left eye was first, need the right eye next in 3 months time, so far so good, but my optic nerve is in a bad way
Thankyou Dr Guzman for and excellent lecture. Hope to see more videos from you. Can you please tell me a reliable reference for the strong weak and moderate indicators for glaucomatous optic neuropathy. Resident Ophthalmologist
+General Thank you for your comment. I don't know of any journal article, textbook, or other reference that ranks the ONH features as to their relative strengths as indicators of glaucoma. The ranking in this lecture is based on consensus of the glaucoma specialists that I work with.
are you a retina specialist? my opthamologist thinks my nerve is damaged. from swelling and vitreous pulling on my retina. I had cataract surgery and vitrectomy. what test are done to see if my nerve is damaged? if I'm not mistaken I think he mentioned optic edema
Thank you for the informative video. I’m a 25yo female that recently got diagnosed with a cup to disc ratio of 0.7. I am afraid I am predisposed to glaucoma.. but I have no family hx of it.
My left eye is optic nerve damage please sir, have you any treatment, bike accident 20/3/20
why can't we dilate patients with open angle glaucoma but we can with close angle glaucoma
wish you have presentation on Humphrey perimeter
Thank you for your comment. I have a perimetry lecture but I still need to record the voice-over. I hope to get it done soon.
my husband had a brain tumir which compreses his optic nerve badly and his vision been affected. now the tumor has removed but there is no vision in his both eyes. plss help.
Hi! i'm a brazilian trainee. Perfect video! I'll try to practice all this tips of nerve evaluation. Thank you so much! Anyone knows where can i find this reticle lens??
Thanks for the compliment and you're welcome. The 78D lens with the reticle in the lecture is a Volk but now that you mention it I can't seem to find any manufacturer who still makes them. If you find one please let me know. Thanks.
@happy. Can I please talk to someone about my eyes? It's an emergency. I don't want to go blind. I strained my eyes five years ago and now it's gotten worser horribly. My ootin nerve or the root of my eyes keep striking piercing pains in the back of my eye sockets. My Dr said I have glaucoma. Please help. Optic nerve.
Hi Universal035. If you are worried about going blind you should follow your doctor's advice regarding treatment and follow-up. Whether or not you are confident in your current doctor you could also consider getting a second opinion.
Happy dG I went to talk to my eye doctor & my health insurance wont pass through so I can get an mri done to see what the real problem is with my eyes. That is what my eye doctor said to do next. I have to wait a whole next 6 months to see him again. There was nothing else he could do to help me. So Im in pain daily & its worsening.
How do you distinguish grey crescent vs peripapillary atrophy?
Thanks for your interest. A grey crescent is part of the neuroretinal rim so the grey/dark area is inside of the scleral ring. More info on grey crescents:

and im trainee...thank you i found the VF presentation😅
nothing is heared.
both
Does the optic disc increase in size as we age? Or can it at least?
The optic disc increases in size from birth to around the mid-to-late teen years because the eyeball is also growing during this time. No more change in size after that unless there is a pathologic condition (e.g. tumor).
25:34 ... I'm a novis, but how is the image not glaucoma on the left
Thanks for watching and for your interest. Since it's a large disc there is adequate neuroretinal rim despite the very large cup. You can also see at the upper and lower edges of the photo that there is no RNFL loss.
I barely can hear this...
I thought this video is about the "evolution" of the optic nerves since I cannot find any video on the internet about the evolution of human eyes which discusses the optic nerves and the brain.
