The Apple Watch ULTRA is the first Apple Watch that works with my tattoos. If you have sleeve tattoos, its worth to try this.
Doesn’t work unless you find a clear spot in your sleeve. I’m almost to the point of getting a square laser’d off my sleeve for wearables.
Ive use AW since original series. Now have a Hermes AW s5, i have heavily tattood wrists and both hands fully tattood.
I workout daily and regardless what i tried, whether running or just in everyday use, upon wrist-down my watch locked. Frustratingly it also forced AUTO-PAUSE during any form of walk or workout.
I ordered the 1” Epoxy stickers from Amazon also and heres my thoughts after 3-4 months daily use now.
Wear each sticker around 3 days each, it MUST be removed to charge and if one wishes to track all sleep stages then leave ON (important) until you waken and it will do so just perfectly.
Whilst using sticker on the rear sensors, it will not lock and finally us inked people have a solution that works.
Heart-rate is same with sticker on as when its not…ive tested it thoroughly as a daily runner!
ECG: remove sticker otherwise will not allow a solid reading if not perfectly over sensors.
SLEEP: MUST BE WORN to track SLEEP STAGES in detail. If your watch locks mid-sleep it will NOT TRACK STAGES so essential to keep sticker on to bed.
EXTRA NOTES: The Same sticker can then be reused for 3-5 days and replaced when you wish or adhesive loosens. Just wipe rear sensors and apply another Epoxy sticker.
CHARGING: will NOT charge using sticker but as above, just remove and replace in morning.
* NOT IDEAL AND APPLE SHOULD REALLY BE ADDRESSING THIS!
However…if your like me and AUTO-PAUSING/LOCKING drives u crazy….then get these guys/girls.
I had the same thoughts at one point.
I have the ultra and i still have the same issues unless i find a clear spot or i have to used it really tie which is annoying.
@@NiklausAdv occasionally I get issues but for the most part it works fine as long as I wear it on the spot of my wrist where its not heavily tatted.
I had to get rid of my Apple Watch I literally could t stand it
I can let you know, I’m heavily tatted. I use to have the S4. It’s probably the best one I had, regarding this issue. I have the S8 now and it’s so bad! It locks so quick! So instead of turning off wrist detection, I just turn the passcode off. Cant use Apple Pay anymore, but at least I dont have to worry about my watch always locking
Yeah it's very annoying. I feel ya.

If watch locks during sleep it obviously WONT TRACK SLEEP STAGES. U can sleep with sticker on aswell just fine and youll see all the stages perfectly.

Im HEAVILY TATTED ON BOTH HANDS UPTO MY ELBOW BUT THIS IS ONLY WAY I KNOW OF THAT WORKS FULLY.
IF MEANING WATVH WORKS AS SHOULD ABD ALL I NEED DO IS CHANGE A STICKER EVERY 3-5 days then im happy if/until apple sort
Just checked this on mine and it worked the only thing I didn’t like is the always on display stops working but at least if I ever need to I can use this for now I use a gap in my tattoo 😂
Does apple pay only need to be removed from the watch?
@@RyanParedez yeah if you turn off wrist detection.
I’m having to wear my Ultra on my right hand as my left is heavily tattooed. Wearing it above the wrist bone made no difference to me, same issues as described in the video. Fortunately my right arm is not tattooed so works fine, just odd wearing a watch on a different hand.
Same. I can only wear it on my right as well where its not as heavily inked.
@@TheManToys I’ve only had it 4 days. Still not used to the right wrist. Least it works however..
Just got my watch upgraded from a used 5 I thought it was the watch that was the problem. Always pausing sometimes. Having the same problem unfortunately all ur tip are not helping. Thanks for the video. Have a good one.
i’m sorry it didn’t work for you.
I have the same issue, and I found a spot where it works, but if it slides (when I sweat) it locks! 😔 I think they should solve this problem!
They definitely should. I have been saying that for years.
Ultra battery is crazy I don’t even have to charge before bed
Same here. That's one of my favorite new feature.
You’re supposed to wear a watch above your wrist bone anyway. It’s the proper way to wear a watch. Anyway, what is the point of this video? People are looking for a fix, not a short story about how a small patch works for you.
I guess i was just excited that it worked for me after several Apple Watches. I am sorry if it didn’t work for you. Are you stuck with disabling the wrist detection?
@@TheManToys No, I developed a fix by putting a few pieces of scotch tape underneath over the censor.
Supposed to huh? I guess we live in the early 1900’s now, maybe 1800’s now? I could have sworn you’re supposed to wear whatever you own however you want. And it is a fix, find a spot you have with open skin, maybe invest in a watch sized laser tattoo removal. Pretty sure if you can afford an Apple Watch ultra you can afford a laser treatment or two the size of a half dollar.
The video has helped people, so maybe people don’t like your rules.
Live and let live dude
@@TheManToys brother you helped me and I’m way more covered in ink than you. Thank you, the Ultra is my first smart watch, and this issue was driving me nuts. I only bought the ultra for all the extra fitness, and gps stuff, and I was getting angry and about to send it back.
Thank you again, this trick has been GREAT for me. ❤
@@limitedhangoutlive no, you developed a hack, exactly like this guy did. Why are you so hateful anyway?
what if the tatto is on the underside of your wrist..same issue?
I don’t think so. It only matters if there’s a tattoo in between the Apple Watch and your screen.
my apple watch ultra was working fine until 3 days ago.
and I just finished my sleeve, and it continuously gets disconnected; pause my workout during the gym. DO NOT BUY APPLE WATCH IF YOU HAVE TATTOOS ON YOUR WRIST
It sucks that is doesn’t for for you. I know how frustrating it could get.
This issue is not unique to just the Apple Watch. I have a Series 6 AW and it was working perfectly fine until I got my sleeve done. Since then I’ve been kicking myself because the AW locks all the time. So, I started looking for an alternative smart watch and none of them work with tattoos. I’ve tried Garmin, Samsung and even GShock smartwatches - none of which were cheap. The one thing I miss the most is Apple Pay. I’m seriously considering buying a AW Ultra but I need to know it’s going to work properly before paying for yet another smartwatch.
It worked 🎉😅😊
Nice!!!
This video does not help. Just put a clear sticker on the round sensors part. Problem, solved.
Thanks for your feedback.
I have two sleeves and I have to have my wrist detection turned off because even the Apple Watch ultra will NOT read
that sucks Im sure.
i have a sleeve tattoo and mine is locking
Sensors are still not able to accommodate tattoos bro. Tried the Ultra 2 and it’s the same thing. i can only wear it on the side that has a small gap from tattoos.
what are the chances of apple watch 10 working with a sleeve tattoos?
very unlikely.
I’m using the Apple Watch 8 45 mm and I can confirm it works with the epoxy sticker on the sensors. AOD is working. I can also confirm that mine will charge if using a 20 W charger. The watch does not charge with the sticker on it when I’m in my vehicle though. Also, the only function I’ve noticed that does not seem to be working is the ECG function. It will not take a reading at all. Blood oxygen sensor works just fine as does the heart rate monitor. Now, if I could just figure out how to get that ECG working.
I’ve got mine arriving tomorrow. I have a tiny gap in my sleeve and I really hope it works! The only smart watch that’s worked so far is a garmin venu 😅
I hope it works for you. Same, I switched to Garmin Felix for a while until i got the ultra. Remember to try to wear it slightly above the wrist bone snug. Let me know if it works when you get it.
Makes me wanna get one! ❤
@@TheManToys Ok, so it works BUT if it moves off that little patch of bare skin I get the locking issue. So just gotta be careful I guess! It’s better than the series 7 anyway!
That’s true. That’s why I had to wear it snug. The alpine loops whelps with keeping it in place. Love the look of it. You’re right way better than series 7.
It doesn’t.
Try to block left 3 sensors by using transparent scotch tape, it will solve ur problem
Do you know what those sensors are that is blocked?
Had it won’t work sent it back the SE worked decent but not that best. Garmin same issue
Looks like all smart watches have issues with tattoos. I had the garmin. Same issue.
I live in misery when it comes to my apple watch. My arms blacked out from my shoulder to my knuckles. apple watches hate me LOL.
I have no idea if apple would take back the watch and issue a refund or not but I've tried every alternative to no avail, aside from switching arms. it just feels totally wrong to wear a watch on my dominant wrist, especially something that cost hundreds of dollars and could possibly get damaged from doing every day things from writing to lifting.
I agree completely. O have no choice but to wear it on my dominant hand.
any feedback about the new S9 version? is it the same sensor? or apple solved that problem?
I don’t know yet. Thinking about testing it.
tested it. ua-cam.com/video/0FNBfa_EP0M/v-deo.htmlsi=KNjOxAJCcvNqfMPc
I presume you have to wear it pretty tight for it to stay in that exact position?
I just wear it snug and it works.
If I work out I tighten it a little.
What if I have tattoo on my inner wrist? Under the strap, above my palm
Will it be a prob?
I wouldn’t thinks so since the sensors are underneath the watch.
Worked thank you bro
I am glad. It doesn’t work for everyone.
Dude! Worked for me too! Thanks ✌️
I love it that it worked for you!!!!
I’m having this issue here and there on my ultra series 7 and 3 and 1 this never happen to me
I think it's hit or miss depending on tattoos and location of how you wear the watch.
Bro, a have a blackout tattoo sleave
Thats gonna be tough bro. Only thing I can think of is disable the wrist detection. Yes, you’ll lose features.
No it doesnt!
Didn’t work for you?
@@TheManToys, nope. Had to change hands. Luckily on my right hand the tattoos don’t go all the way down.
I understand. I can only wear mine on a specific spot and then snug to keep it there.
