S: I’m shocked and delighted to see the depth of discussion happening in my Shadow Work Library community this week. Deep people, deep questions. I’m eager to host the next Sunday Seminar: 90-minutes of shadow confessions and corrections in a circular discussion of clear and creative individuals - small groups, honest work, real talk. You can tell how thoroughly you followed some research paths to niche depths to get onto some of these books! 😅 fun video, a few definitely have my interest! Thank you, Jordan!
Exciting list, thank you, but it can be too challenging to read most of these books without appropriate background. Can you make a video with a list for beginners? Or books that need to be read to understand more advanced books in different areas (body, trauma, psychoanalysis, etc )
Brother, with all due respect, you've been asking this question several times over the last few months and I do have more accessible videos on trauma work on the channel which I've suggested you explore in the past. The gold is right there in the books, and my videos won't be the thing which helps you to really go deeper into the topics - keep enduring, stay steady with the reading discipline. It gets easier the further you go, and there are always those general book videos on the channel in regards to trauma for you to explore. Be well, you got this.
I've been burrowing in this general area most of my 82 years, yet surprisingly only one of the book on the video was really familiar - Woodman's Pregnant Virgin. Yet as I think about it I have a few 'hidden gems' of my own that I will share. Most edgy and perhaps obscure is The Red Lamp of Incest by Robin Fox. Least obscure is The Outsider by Colin Wilson from the mid 50s. My No 1 pick is Cecile Tougas' Phenomena of Awareness which uncovers the emergence of a mystical practice that from the world of mathematics and science. Sedgewick's Against the Modern World reveals a range modern thinkers who fall outside our usual awareness - some quite acceptable others not! If I think of more I'll pass them along. Nice to see a younger person digging in this gardin!
Thank you for the golden suggestions - I’ve screenshotted your comment and will lookup the books. Trying my best to bring these older books to a new generation, and there is always more to learn - be well, and thank you again for your support and suggestions here 🌲
Hi Jordan, my daughter Saporah would love to join your shadow work library group. Are there any options for discounts at this time? Also, we live at The Shire… 😊😊😊 A place where a hobbit can come stay alone or as a couple in a cabin. Or there are facilities we have for group retreats.
Sure, there might be something we can do - Saporah will need to message me privately over on Instagram and reach out from her own initiative, however. Want to hear what she has to say and if I can help - wishing you both the best ✌🏻
Thank you for such a variety of book recommendations. I hope you don’t mind me asking, do you have any books recommendations for child loss for mothers? My little boy passed away last year and two weeks later I found out I’m pregnant. I’m just curious if perhaps you may have some recommendations. The only book I found was “And a sword shall pierce the heart” but it’s really related to my experience .
I’m sorry for your loss, and I’m afraid I can’t help directly - although Rachel, one of my previous private clients, specialises in this kind of work and you can find her over on Instagram @the.holistic.grief.coach (she likewise suffered loss, and I’m sure she’ll help you out if you mention that you asked me first - I trust her wisdom here) 🌲
Yo Jordan I'm thinking of buying your shadow work library course, would you still reccomend it to me even if i've only been learning about shadow work for a week? The only stuff I've learned is from a few hours of youtube videos. Appreciate your reply ⭐
Message me over on Instagram @thorntontheory and I'll be happy to send some voice notes answering your question in full detail, if I haven't already - here to help. The short answer is yes, you'll massively benefit from the course and community this year even if you're at the beginner stage. Will be great to see you inside, message me.
Worth studying these things if you’re serious about creating long-term safety in alternative arrangements. Nuanced space if you take the time to look deeper - you’ll enjoy the book.

I just got the individuated hobbit from my library... only one copy in my county! Thanks for the rec! No way I was paying $100+ for a 150 page book😅
Good find!
Do you have any talks or material on OCD, intrusive thoughts/dreams ?
Not in those specifics, no. Trauma work generally goes into the themes - however, good luck.

@@jordanthornton Haha It's the same guy Dennis who messaged you on insta before. ty for all your answers
Do you take any classes where you can give the reading list for beginners
No, sorry. But good luck with your search - great year ahead for you I’m sure 🌲
@jordanthornton it's fine. What do you think the fundamental difference between Yungian philosophy and Freudian philosophy
Jordan Thorton, please see my other comment here about Saporah Luna
Is there an archive of these books that you have read and find to be worth reading?
Yes… in the shelves of my library 😉 Only the best make it to UA-cam - more to come
@jordanthornton thank you, I'll stay tuned.
Writing a book about Frodo Baggins shadow is a wild idea 😭😭😭
It's super niche. Interesting book.

SM 101 - who got bogged down in practical demonstration to get around to reading about ideas and concepts?
