My New Deer Hunting Rifle | Complete Set Up to Hunt-Ready Condition (X-Bolt + Vortex Razor HD LHT)

- I decided to get a smaller caliber for deer hunting since my 30-06 is a little too big for my liking. After doing a lot of research and learning more about all the excellent calibers out there, the 6.5 Creedmoor just notched all the boxes for this particular project.
I am not an expert when it comes to this stuff so I just share with you what I've learned so far. Take this video more as a project rather than a tutorial.

ABOUT ME
My name is Samong, and I am an avid outdoorsman who creates hunting and other outdoor videos on UA-cam. My videos primarily consist of what Eastern Washington has to offer hunters, fishermen, and other outdoor enthusiasts, but when opportunities arise, I will wonder outside of Washington for more outdoor adventures. Regardless of where I am, I strive to entertain, teach, and inspire my viewers to get outside and enjoy the outdoors.
This is The Best that I have ever seen for a complete detailing of How to set up your rifle.
Though one tip that I use...Clean the bore after each 3 shot segment. This will give the next 3 shots the same conditions as the first 3.
You should try to get sponsorship..keep more content coming
@Jersey City thanks bro
Found your channel about a week ago and I am enjoying watching your videos very much. This was one of the best mounting/sight in procedure videos I have seen. Full of information and given in a manner anyone can understand.
I must also say at 57 years old, it is refreshing to see a young person that is so well spoken. I really hope some of the major companies are also watching and will provide some sponsorship opportunities. This is exactly what hunting (and fishing too) needs as our "public image".
Well done.
Your comment is very much appreciated, Andrew! Thank you!
Dude you need to come out to the property this winter. I'm putting in a 1-mile range we can shoot as much as we want at 🤙 Great video
Dude!! I definitely need to come out do some long-range plinking there! Shooting one mile sounds like a blast!
@@SamongOutdoors leeesssdoit!
Im in!
DUDE! I DONT THINK I HAVE WATCHED A VIDEO OF YOURS IN A YEAR+. YOU HAVE 34K SUBS!!KEEP ROCKIN BROTHER
Thanks Vortex for sponsoring Samong. He's deserved a good sponsor for awhile now, so thanks for picking him up. BTW do you make rings without a picatinny mount for a old Savage 111 that i can also keep my iron sights on. Been looking at a 4x16 viper model that you have but cant figure a way to mount it.
Ive learned so much from this video. So much information and very simple to follow... Keep up the hard work and keep the videos coming!
I'm 69 yrs old and been reloading and working up loads for all my rifles as far back as I can remember and you sir did a great job explaining how its done, if you have the time you should get into reloading, I haven't shot sierra for a hunting load, always found them too hard to get good terminal damage
I would love to get into reloading sometime, but I just don't have the money to invest into reloading yet. Eventually though!
You’re killing it man !!! Keep it up & stay safe in the field this year
Another great video Samong. One of the best set up and sighting in videos I’ve ever watched. Great job and thank you
Just great UA-cam content, as usual, education, personality, and versatile.
I found your channel last week and you have one of the best hunting/outdoor channels on UA-cam. You take the time to explain and demonstrate your techniques and reasonings. Just now you taught me more about MoA and dialing on scopes than any video I've watched. Love your channel, keep up the excellent content, bud.
Glad to hear it!
What an awesome description of everything! For any beginners, this video pretty much covers absolutely everything!
Great content as always.
One thing I like to do if I have a scope like that" capability to dial in shots" is shoot it for approximately 40 yds. Then after that I will shoot for 200 yds. The rifle will be very close if done this way. Then adjust a few shots to get it zeroed for 200 yds exactly. This is my Zero.
Virtually all scoped rifles will have a point where it could be 40 yds, 43 yds, 47 yds etc etc where it hits that yardage and it will also hit 200 yds. Just a quirky thing about an elevated scope and the "arc" of the bullet. Sorry if my terminology isn't quite right.
I totally understand what you're saying. I'll have to look into that. Thanks for sharing!
If you dial for your shots this method isn't necessary. 100 yard zero is sufficient if you will typically dial for your shots of you can hold in the reticle.
@@SamongOutdoors Its all about "far" and "close" zero. Most calibers have two places where the eye-line (where you look) and the ballistic path of the bullet intersect. Software like strelok can show you that simply.
But i prefer to use a point blank range, zero the rifle at say 100 yards, then adjust so you hit 1 or 2 inches high. This means that if the vital zone for an animal is 4 inches, you can shoot from 0 to 200 yards and be inside that.
Example: I have a 6.5 Grendel, v0 is 800 m/s. If vital zone is 5 cm (2") I can zero the rifle at 200 meters, at any point in the travel from 0 to 200 meters, the bullet will always be inside +/- 2" of zero.
Makes it alot easier, if a animal is moving or is driven (common in europe with dogs) you dont have time to change elevation on the turrets and holdovers are difficult with a FFP scope and low magnification.
I don't know much about rifles and hunting, but here you are again making great videos!
Awesome set up bro good for you. Loving your vids keep up the amazing work. Good luck hunting this year hope you get one you deserve it.
Thanks for your time and efforts in making great videos, full of useful and accurate content! Sweet rifle setup, especially chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor!
Beautiful Rifle LOVE IT ! Great info Samong :) Great video as always !
Outstanding, I know so little about Rifles and Scopes, this was, great information..
I was going to buy a Rifle this year, then Covid hit, and I could go look at the..
Next your I'll go looking, I still don't know what I want.. Lol
We've all been there. Decisions, decisions, haha.
Great job showing your setup and all the time you put into getting it ready.
I have watched a lot of videos on how to sight in , this was very helpful , keep it up man great job
Love your set up. I could mail you a couple different types of ammo that I have left over from my 6.5 Creedmoor test.
Awesome! Bought a 2022 xbolt LR (26”) 6.5 CRM because of this video!!
Great stuff! Very underrated channel!
Great channel. Just interesting and just the right content. No hype, no polished big edited intros. Just honest content with natural outdoor sounds. Keep it up Samsung i love your channel and good luck on your next outing. Im close to your hunting areas. Who knows, maybe someday we may meet in the field?
Great video! Very informative. I guess I need a Vortex scope now.
One of the greatest detailed videos for sure and in easy language that anyone beginning can understand. Another mod u can do the xbolt is the trigger I didn’t like mine was at about 4.5lb pulls I did the m carbo spring was a little pain pulling the old one out but now I have 2.5 lb trigger pull.
GREAT EXPLANATION 👍
Awesome explanation of this scope I have a vortex viper on a Howa 1500 6.5 creedmore gun I bought used learning how use this scope is challenging
I have been looking the Brownings over. They are nice.
I'm new to precision rifle and scope setup. Thanks for the video, very helpful!
Great Job at Explaining the Sighting in Process... I Really Enjoy Your Hunting Videos... Good Luck to you ,, and I agree. You definitely Should get a Sponsor... Safe Hunting. Big Fan
Excellent video. You did a great job of explaining your procedures for getting your rifle ready for use in hunting.
Another tip use the picatinny rail flats with the bottom of the scope flats using a deck of cards.
Awesome rifle and caliber! My wife shoots a Christensen Arms 6.5 Creedmoor with a Nightforce scope. She has taken a big horn ram, Shiras moose, mule and whitetail deer, all with one shot. We handload 140Grain Trophy Bonded Bearclaws for it and have recovered bullets with 95% weight retention. Good luck with yours!
Nice tutorial well presented and I understood what u were saying and showing ... I’m a visual learner ... thanks
Thanks for the great video. Learned something new today
Great video! 2 tips, clean the screws and threads with alcohol before using lock tight. When using fat wrench 3 click turns sets the poundage.
my dad has the same rifle but it’s a 300. win mag! it’s amazing keep up the great vids👍
I was already familiar with how to setup the zero stop but the reason I clicked on the video was that I have Hells Canyon Speed in .243 win and I wanted to see if your rifle was as accurate as mine is. But anyways I must say that this was by far thee best detailed explanation on how to sight in the scope and setting the zero stop I've ever seen. Good job. Them gamechangers are the clear ticket for your gun. My gun shoot as good as yours using Hornady superformance 95 grain and Federal Powrshock 100 grain but it doesn't like the Winchester Super X or the Remington Corelokt.
My 6.5 110 ultralite likes the hornady 143gr eldx. Did some handloads and the groups were even better. Loading myself now since it's hard to find ammo several months back. Finally drew a cow tag last year. Dropped cow elk at 500yrds this past winter in Oregon coast 1 shot through the lungs.
Thank you for the shooting lesson. Awesome video
Take care
This was a killer video. I guess not so much if your not a gun nerd. Ol'sam here is wise beyond his years. That 6.5 is a barrel burner for sure. I only shot more then once at a time on yotes with a 22-250 but at the range I shoot 1 min break shoot 2 min shoot then put away for a few min. Check with flir and back to shooting. This is why you should bring a 22 to the range. Fills in the gaps of waiting.
Keep up the great work !
Yeah, gun nerds are probably face palming themselves watching this video 😂😂😂
@@SamongOutdoors over all you did a great job. I'd say 80% of your viewers are not savvy with this stuff. You touched on some very heavy info for shooting in general. Anyone learning (even the best of are still learning) there is some really good info to take and research more in-depth. Just keep doing you bro ! Your killing it. Take er easy.
Good video as always. On my 6.5 Savage stealth the Hornady Precision Hunter ammo didn't shoot well for me either. The Norma match 6.5 Creedmoor ammo was definitely most accurate out of my gun. Accuracy for me a cheek rest really helped me.. you can really rest yourwhole head on the gun and relax. That looks like really good setup though!
Low key Samong is in the special force as a sniper. “ Kuv nyiam koj!” Jet Li voice” lol.
Nice rifle!
I remember one time cabelas mounted a scope for me many years ago, I looked through the scope, and the reticle was turned like 45 degrees left. That was when I realized if you want something done right, do it yourself
great video, saw this set up on your most recent hunt, looks great and after seeing this video really like that scope you chose. Great combo man. well done.
Save it for my future reference. Thank you for the good and clear guide.
Well done & great details on setting up a rifle. I’m looking at a new rifle & scope for next hunting season and this is spot on with the step by step instructions, i plan to do it myself. Thanks
Enjoyed this video fun to watch.
Excellent video! (Similar strategy here--I grab my .243 for the whitetail. Less meat damage than the '06.)
Outstanding video, great content as always
Damn Son, nice set up!
Recommend you should put the scope leveler on the left side of your scope and nearest to your face, that way you can see it better.
Great job on your videos, I like your passion/commitment to what you do. Keep up the good work sir.
Samyoug look at the Chanber Chiller to cool your barrels quicker
EXCELLENT JOB!!!!!!!!!!!
Awesome setup. Lovin the content
Love it! I was thinking about an X-bolt but ended up with a Tikka T3x in 7mm Remington Magnum. Now to go dial it in...in Eastern WA!
The x-bolt was the other rifle I looked at. I went with the T3x in .308. Btw, I love the limbsaver air I put on.
Tikkas are sooo nice they are the best gun brand I have tried I have a .308 and I love it
thanks for this video. Young guys can teach us older guys new tricks!
great set up! i have the 6.5cm Hells canyon speed with a first gen Vortex Viper pst 4-16x50 and loved it
the initial 100 yard zero is done under the caps you are adjusting with a flat head screwdriver. Those are for quick adjustments. Great content!
Good job - I'm new to sighting in my scopes consistently; and it's true shooting more and frequently - is counterproductive. I enjoyed the tracking test - well explained..
Learned something new with the tracking thing!!!!!
Nice video,I've enjoyed your content. Good luck luck in gun season!
Mount the level to the barrel first. The 2nd level can be put on the rail after you mount it. With a Wheeler Professional laser bore sighter, bore sight it 2" low at 25 yards and you'll be on paper at 100 yards. Before you did the tracking test it would be less confusing to zero the turrets.
I got the same rifle in .300 win mag and I love it
There other things you can do in addition to what you have done to make your scope more accurate. Look up Wheeler Ring align and Lap. It will make it even more accurate than you already have it. The information is great that you have presented. I thought I was back in gunsmith school again! Great job!
Great video man!
Awesome video! This was really informative.
Thank you for all the videos especially for this one. Great job!
Thanks Sam, another quality video.
This is the best video mate! you’re legend cheers mate 🍻
Nice review my friend excellent as well as educational
Well done video bro. I was entertained and learned all the way thru
good explanation and nice rifle!
Right on man, I have the HD gen I, gen 2, and the 3-15 pst love it
Good job kiddo and that is a true tracking scope
Nice gun n congrats.
Hey samong, if you know how to shed hunt do you think you could make a shed hunting vid during shed season
Loving the vids! But I find that The zero stop in vortex isn’t too different from the Luepold Vx but me personally I find the Luepold zero stop much easier for me
Great video on the scope set up. I notice most people place too much importance on the bullet flight between the end of the barrel and the target and not as much importance on the actual job the bullet does when it reaches the target. Sierra bullets fly great, however Nosler partition bullets work great when they reach the target. Remember it is not the rifle or scope that kills the game, that is only done by the bullet. You have a beautiful rifle scope combination ...feed it some Nosler partitions and never look back.
I've heard nothing but great things about the partitions. If this ammo shortage would allow, I'd definitely give them a shot. Perhaps next year before I make my complete switch over to copper bullets. My end goal is to go copper bullets so that I don't have to deal with lead in my meat anymore.
Please do a cougar hunt with the 30-06 since there is a plenty of them in Orgeon and Washington state.
Barns bullets are a better choice hunting bullet. My rifle shoots sub.mim. of angle with the 127 gr. Good luck and good hunting. Nice rifle can't go rong with Browning.
You left out the most important part/tip - to go JBM Ballistics and run the ballistics chart numbers of your exact bullet. Print and laminate out a small chart that shows the change in MOA out to however far you're willing to shoot. Use some electrical tape and secure that to your stock. Instant access to knowing what MOA to set your scope to for whatever range you are shooting. Find a critter, use your range finder to find the distance. Look at your chart on your rifle, dial in the scope, and shoot to kill.
Thanks.
Great video. Really informative. Thanks and good hunting!
Awesome video!!!💯💯💯
Great informational video!
Amazing video I don't think you've made a video on moa and how to use moa in your scope the only thing I know is like moa and sub moa. moa is you get a 1 inch group at a hundred yards and so forth 2 inch at 200 etc sub moa is if you get below moa pretty self explanatory 😂 but I don't know how to use moa dialing it like you did or how to make a ballistic moa chart so you know in the field how much to dial at certain yards if you could make a video on that. That would be fantastic. Great video as always
Just bought a bergara wilderness hmr 308 I shot 15ish shots in 15,20 mins yday and the barrell never got more than warm even when 3 shots in 1 min. That browning looks super nice though
He has a thin (pencil) barrel that is fluted. It gets hot fast but cools down fast to. Heavier varmint barrels takes more shot to get warm, but once warm they stay that longer.
good job on the rifle man!
Dude, I thought I was really down in the weeds when it comes to mounting scopes and things like that, but you have me beat!!! Good stuff!!!! Try to take as much of the human error of the equation.
Good stuff bro
Great video! Thanks for the tips
6.5 creedmoor sounds good for blacktail and whitetail. I would use the 30-06 for the bears and elk. But some say you can drop elk and bear with a 6.5
Thanks!
You really do an excellent job with your videos.
Thank you! Much appreciated!
Awesome content.
Really like this video.
