Agreed it's fairly specialized. I've considered something like this for my situation where playing live for dancers I have to keep to a specific tempo and an audio metronome wouldn't work and a visual metronome is a distraction, but am not convinced that it's not a gimmick. I can't think of a use case for the sync feature...
As someone that gets really annoyed by the monotonous click of a metronome, I could see this as a possible alternative during practice. Not sure if I would use this for a live performance though.
Try Vibro Meronome for android and Mi Band. It is very cool
