    This is the Best Perfromance of Release IMO because it is so vocally sang from His Soul! Spot on! I will say this its NOT even a Performance in this case its a Experience

    This version is famous and I can tell you the big difference between the two versions. Eddie sings the whole song. This song has become such an emotional touchstone for the fans that they sing the first verse and he lets them now. I think I may have mentioned this version to you before but never went so far as to send a link. The live version with the crowd interaction had more energy for sure but if you really want to hear this song in it's nascent stages, the Denmark version is the best. That's for the great review and rating.

    As far as Eddie is concerned, I don't think you can get a more emotional performance of Release than this one. The other one you reacted to was ok but it pales in comparison to this one.

    I appreciate you doing this song again. This version is my fave ever. The power, yes. I feel like this one was more emotional than the other one you did though but everyone’s gunna feel different things from different versions.

    I have RELEASE ME tattooed on my arm, song is about my father too, between my dad and wife grief is one fucked up emotion, the worst, but thank god for PJ and their music , they help me heal, " I'LL HOLD THE PAIN , RELEASE ME!!!!!

  • @motionshadow

    Both performances are high impact and I eat them both up! (I recall chiming in in support of your reviewing this one before I knew you were indifferent to the lyrics. Ha. Although, honestly, if the lyrics were "rubber baby buggy bumpers, Jack and Jill ran up the hill to fetch a pail of water, yada yada", I'd insist that you reconsider.) Having said that, Eddie's voice here is gigantic, and his facial expressions certainly reflect that, so, for that reason, it does hit me a bit differently than the performance at Fenway.
    Thanks for taking the time to do this, David!

    Thanks for the reaction. I think you nailed this. I also think this one has a bit more power of the vocals and the other has more emotion. I comb through the PJ catalogue of recordings to find versions of songs to put on my iPod. For me, I'm screening them for the quality of the music, and if I were picking which one Id put on my playlist it would be the other. That said, this one was fantastic too.

    Okay, fellow PJ Fans, gotta level with ya. David doesn't give a flip about lyrics. I learned that the hard way when he reviewed "Present Tense" on his full-album review of No Code (on Patreon only) and didn't really get blown away by the lyrics. That's cool, he's a music-only guy. He's a bass player, he knows MUSIC like the back of his hand, and can appreciate a good vocal performance, but he is definitely not really a lyrics guy. You're not going to change his mind on a previously reviewed song by getting an Ed-Sings-More-Impassionedly version -- it's just not going to happen. It's best to not gum up the queue with that kinda stuff if you think you're going to blow him away with Ed's lyric writing. (Or Stone's. Let's not sleep on Don't Gimme No Lip. 🤣)

    • @youravgjoe42
      @youravgjoe42 3 роки тому +1

      Yup. I really enjoy the channel, but I don't suggest the songs where the key element of it's greatness is the lyrics. Present Tense is a perfect example. The lyrics are brilliant, and the song sounds great, but you wouldn't look at the song's composition as being anything that stands out. Unthought Known is another example that fits this description.
      David's analysis is great for what it is. Obviously the lyrics matter in assessing overall brilliance, but that just isn't David's cup of tea. I'm enjoying the journey and it's totally ok that many of us find that the lyrics significantly enhance the value in the PJ catalogue.

    You may laugh at me, but when I listen to this song, I can't help myself imagine the following scene: aliens attack the Earth, however they somehow happen upon this PJ performance, they freeze, fall into trans, get hypnotized, dropped their mouths and eyes open and they stay petrified like this, lol :D I really don't know why, it just has some depth and magic and magnetism, it reminds me a little bit of the Orthodox Christianity church singing (I am from Eastern Europe), it has a similar mysteriousness... I don't know, I can't explain it...
