Probably my most favorite Redline episode to date so far!! I love my Moto camping Adventures on my versys but one thing always still eludes me. Whenever I pack my adult beverages in the beginning of the trip they always get well....rather warm. Any products or tried-and-true advice you wish to give this young buck? 🍺

Bag Wine has come a long way, red wine is preferred warm. So Bota Box and Black Box are two great options for adult beverages.

Get a reusable soft freezer pack, place between beverage cans, and wrap in towel, place in plastic bag, and Wrap again in blanket, or even middle of sleeping bag stuff sack. The wrap will act as insulation, keeping cold in, and heat out. Towel will absorb condensation, plastic bag keeps outer layers dry. Dry towel by fire while enjoying beveridge. Use bag for cleaning up campsite, or separating dirty clothes and clean.

This is one of those videos where you think, "I'll know all this stuff already" but you end up learning some things anyway. On my first trip 20 years ago I set up the tent properly but later that night I was so drunk I couldn't find it in the dark. I passed out face down on the ground outside some other tent with a snoring man inside. Happy times.

One thing I want to add before hitting the road is to adjust rear shock preloads due to the additional weight. This is important, as my friend rode out once with all his panniers and top box on the rear and his shocks bottomed out giving a rear tire tube pinch. His whole camping was cancelled as he had to tow his motorcycle back to garage.

That last tip is so important. Been camping for years (out of a car), often in outback Australia and my parents always drilled it into me to clean up the campsite after. Every time I go with the boys now we scour the campsite like a search party cleaning up all the rubbish and it is disgusting how much of it is left from other campers. It's not a hard job and it keeps the outdoors looking as tidy as possible.
Think I got some good tips for my first motorbike camping trip I'll do as soon as I have my bike ready, cheers boys

Hey guys, great channel. Regarding cans lined with plastic, as long as the contents is water based liquid, as opposed to oil-based, you're good to go with heating on a flame; the liquid prevents the plastic reaching melting point. You can literally put a plastic water bottle above a flame, and it won't melt.

Just rode the Colorado BDR route on my 2018 Honda Rally like yours. I added side and rear racks, crash bars and skid plate for a total of about 10 pounds, and had 45 pounds in three Nelson Rig dry bags. The bike was still well under max weight and handled everything very well, on road and off. My buddy carried about 45 pounds on his Versys 650 so between us we had a large tent, table, chairs, stove, cooler, food, water and supplies for a week with no problem.

Took my R3 camping this past summer. My 2 person cocoon tent didn't fit into any of my bags, had to have the batons hanging out the back. So paranoid i was gonna get there and not have em anymore. I let my friends with the campers take care of the food situation. I bought a decent bottle of bourbon to make up for it.
You tend to get a lot of looks when you go rolling into a campground on a sportbike loaded with camping gear.

The new backpacking cots are a great alternative to a sleeping pad. They get you above the rocks and You can store shoes and gear underneath increasing your in the tent storage. Lastly for even more comfort add an inflatable sleeping pad on top. Don’t forget a backpacking chair. Sitting on the ground or on rocks after riding is less relaxing. Being well rested is key to enjoying the ride.

A bivy with a mummy style sleeping bag, with 3/4 size thermal pad, is my preferred sleeping/shelter arrangement. When nasty weather forecast or possible, also an old army poncho, or 6x8 tarp. to bear the worst mother nature throws my way. If temp going to be higher, a ranger blanket/ poncho liner, with a bug bar and tarp works best. (We get black flies, mosquitos, horse and deer flies, that are HUUGEE where I camp most of the time.) Think I might try one of the hammock type shelters out there. would eliminate the need for sleeping pad, and tent/tarp save major weight, (long as there are trees to hang from.)

I have an FJ cruiser that I have turned into an overlander with solar power, fresh water storage, extra fuel, integrated propane holders, radio systems, solar shower, and a whole pullout storage system in the back with, quite literally, a pull out kitchen with sink and grill. So this is very different style of back country camping I really want to try.

Another difference beteween soft and hard luggage, if you tip, crash, bump them the soft luggage is more forgiving than hard luggage. The soft luggage will tear and can temporarily be fixed with tape or sewing needle. If the hard luggage cracks or breaks a bracket, it can be difficult to fix.

My buddies and I went motorcycle camping many times when I was in my 20s. How did we do it? I had a carrying rack on the back pf my Honda CL-305. We'd strap 3 cases of beer on the back, then we'd all ride way out to the woods in the middle of nowhere, build a campfire, and proceed to get very well lubricated, talking about everything and nothing, finally passing out leaning against a tree, and waking up with a hangover. Great fun !

Power banks for phone charging is good to remember. I used a Honder CBR 125 some Bungie ropes and a army bag and made it to the snowy mountains fine.
Cheap tent, cheap Bungie rope, some blankets and blow up mattress worked well. I also layed with aloy of jumpers. Camping dosnt need to cost $1725183 dollars.

You forgot one advantage soft panniers have is they are less likely to get damaged by a drop like hard panniers do. One patch of gravel at a stop sign and its dent city for aluminum panniers. They also don't transfer energy into the frame like hard pans do as well.

You will always lose more body heat to the ground then you will the air around you while you're sleeping.
It's important to put an insulated barrier between you and the ground especially in cold weather.
A sheet of Tyvek house wrap under an emergency blanket and Mylar covered bubble wrap are both cheap options to create a barrier.

Great show. Lem, your tent can be bought with a great feature (floor saver). Much lighter and packs easier. Another option for luxury camping on a bike is a cot, Check out Alps Mountaineering ready lite cot. If you want more details on light camping check with your local Scout troop!
