    Just changed my diesel fuel filter today, very easy. Some fuel did leak out of the pipes when taking them off but I filled the new filter with fuel before connecting it up and the engine started as normal . No bleeding required 2002 T4 2.5 TDI .

    Dislike, because he disregards VW's "5 rules" for cleanliness when working on the diesel system!
    He doesn't clean the connectors and area surrounding the old diesel filter...
    He even leaves the main connector down in the dirt...!
    Also, the new diesel filter should have been filled full of diesel (clean as possible, as this amount will go straight to the pump unfiltered). With an empty filter the diesel pump will suck air for some time before it gets diesel...this is bad as the pump is very high pressure, delicate and expensive, and it needs diesel to lubricate itself.

    Great video but as others have said should have shown filling the new filter up the the brim with fresh diesel as you can have major problems otherwise.👌

      This video contains only tips and tricks that may be useful when performing vehicle repairs or replacing parts. The design of the fuel system varies. Sometimes the manufacturer provides for complete bleeding of air from the system. If the system opens to allow air in, it must be expelled, and it makes no difference whether the filter was full or empty. This is what the manufacturer provides. In other cars, you can change the filter without the laborious work of releasing air, since the design has a hand pump or a pump pedal that removes air. Therefore, you should read a book on repairing your car before replacing parts.

    Don't we need to fill the new filter up with fuel as well before connecting it? Any idea which pipe does what? ie intake outlet etc? Thanks for vid!

      Thank you for your feedback! Your remark is absolutely reasonable. This part of our video has been overlooked. Diesel filters should be filled with fuel when replacing, air shouldn`t get into the fuel system. We take all the errors into consideraion in order to make our videos better and more informative. The hose you can see around the fuel filter is just a modification of the vehicle owner, so we can`t tell what this hoes does. woah!! Cowboy! You don't use the end of your screwdriver against the side of the hose to try to push it off!!! I stopped watching at that point and went looking for someone who knows what they are doing!!

    Hello, do you have to bleed the fuel before starting the car again? Thanks

    • @autodocuk
      @autodocuk  5 років тому

      Thank you for your feedback! It is absolutely right - when starting an engine, it is necessary to bleed the fuel system. You can find the details in your Repair Manual for your car. Best regards, Autodoc.

      I never bleed. I fill the new filter up with diesel before connecting. It will bleed itself eventually

      This "Haines Manual" video does not bleed the fuel system, but they do fill the new filter up with diesel fuel before connecting it up to the pipes. ua-cam.com/video/Tw01cVLNp7w/v-deo.html

      @@autodocuk I just looked at the Haines Manual video and they don't bleed the fuel system. They just start the engine , run at idle for a few seconds , rev up to 2000ppm a couple of times , idle again . and that's it.
      They did say it might take a few extra seconds to start the engine initially.
