    Great episode guys! “When you can get a 6,7, or 8 for a fraction of the price of a 9 or 10” Totally agree.

    Great discussion. Funny that I don't have to worry about it. I don't have 1 PSA 10 in the collection. Very few 8's in my collection. Only 1 or 2 graded 9's too.
    Many 6's that are a little Off center are 7's, but downgraded to 6 due to centering. Very hard to find a centered 7...or a 6 for that matter. The registry is very dopey, which you are slowly discovering.

    The only thing I would say is prioritizing centering OVER color/surface quality is probably a mistake. To get all three is super tough most times, but not impossible. Patience is everything.

    Great discussion Guys! I get a lot of Topps and Old London proofs and postcards with writing on the back slabbed as authentic. The writing ads to the card IMO, and the proofs are unique enough not to need a grade.

      Stukes the items and cards you collect go way beyond the grade themselves :) . Your a legend and the way you go about collecting is very unique and awesome to see what you grab and the grade means absolutely nothing for sure.

    100% agree 10’s should be about twice the price of a 9 in most cases. And I think a 20% premium on a well centered card in that same grade is fair and realistic for me. But also, let’s stop trying to beat up dealers on ‘comps’ for these when we know full well it’s a better card. Let’s deal with people with honesty and integrity. Can’t have it both ways. Love you guys! 💪🏻🤛🏻

      @MrJmangini Місяць тому +1

      A 10 should be twice as much as a 9? Interesting. There’s such a high percentage of 9’s that get resubmitted and get 10’s. This just encourages this practice. I hope someday these flippers stop selling 10’s to each other 😂

    • @brentrichardsbaseballcards
      @brentrichardsbaseballcards Місяць тому

      @@MrJmangini yeah, just saying that opposed to the 10 being 10 times as much as a 9 right now, they should come down to maybe being twice as much

      It all depends honestly… there are cards like Rickey’s rookie or Ozzie’s rookie that the population of 10s is like single digits with the 9s being abundant af. You’re not getting a rickey 10 for 2x a 9 ever, and for good reasons. On modern cards I tend to agree tho

    Good show guys. Grading means nothing to me except the fact that the card is not counterfeit. Coming from set building and buying prewar tobacco cards, I just want the card. No matter what grade or centered or not. Owning the card mattered, not the grade.
    Now when I go to sell my collection some day, I’d make a 180 degree turn and hope my cards will get the highest grade possible (most of my cards are ungraded).
    Agree 100% that the hobby is over concerned about grades. True collectors prefer best look at lowest cost. Flippers & investors want 10’s whether even it looks like a 7.

    As the popularity of lower graded high eye appeal grows so will the price point and the "floor" value will steadily rise with it. Now I also believe for certain that (accurately) high grade copies will do the same. Probably at a slower rate somewhat. But the gap between grades should eventually level out so that the price difference between a 7 and 8 on a vintage card is not 2x anymore. The same dynamic exists with major vintage stars in lower grades. But the hype that UA-cam creators alone dig up will likely drive up the pricing on higher eye appeal cards in lower grade faster than high grade cards appreciate. Not everyone can afford "investor" grade but under-graded cards are in everyone's wheelhouse on the right day. And I would TOTALLY go all in on super high grade copies of everything if I had a billion dollars, for the record! Of course I would donate a massive amount of it as well. Great topic, fellas!

    I’ll take a 1958 Holiday Inn Mickey Mantle over a 1958 Topps everyday. I have fully embraced the oddball and rarely seen over the oft seen and plenty available. Does this impact value and my ability for “investment “? Probably…but I don’t care. To me, “Oddball” is the palate cleanser to the myriad of cards we see over and over. In addition, many of these “oddball” cards have a unique story that most Topps and mainstream cards simply can’t tell. Great show guys!

      Loved reading this when you posted it and I would never argue against collecting the Oddball cards and items. I just have that attraction to the normal Topps cards so for me making those as rare as possible via Centering keeps me from buying every card I see ha ha ha. Thank you for the great comment and for watching :)

    Great topic fellas! For me one of the most compelling reasons not to be 10 chaser is how disproportionately high the value is over the next highest grade - when we know there is that temperamental element of subjectivity (what percentage of the time would it t grade 10 again? Would some of your 9s grade a 10 if they were graded by another dude at PSA). I’m on the trust your eyes train. I do believe in technical grade - but you can still trust your eyes in that department. However, the older the card the more important it is to me that the card just looks good, no matter the grade.
    I also look for the best looking card in the lowest grade possible (for vintage). Amen.
    Great discussion guys 🙌🙌

    This was fantastic guys and should be a required watch for anyone in this hobby. Both for vintage and modern, the grade is overrated. Save your money on the high grade and put it into more cards. It's overused all the time, but so true, "buy the card, not the grade." Part of me sometimes feels like people view grades as if they are report card grades in school that they have to bring home to their parents. It's just a number that someone assigned and only their opinion. Great job again on this one.

    I don't collect for the grade... but if its a card I want, looks good to me (eye appeal) , authentic and lastly affordable. You can sell a bunch of 10 and probably buy a nice lot of cards you want. Never understood grading through a 3rd party unless its for authentication, its like having someone else taste my food and tell me this is the absolute best. I just want the "authentic" card and I'll be the judge.🤙
