  • Hagerstown isn't ready for baseball until 2024, Lexington is showing us the 2-team model isn't successful, and recent traveling teams are more like a traveling circus. What are the Atlantic League's options in 2023?

What ever happened to VA Beach? Seems like the perfect place. Also, any news about Pawtucket or Providence? I know McCoy was in not the best shape, but seems like a great market if they could figure the stadium out. Same with going back to New Haven. Yale Field is a gorgeous ballpark and I would absolutely love to see it get back into the professional fold.

Unfortunately, I haven’t had chatter about moving forward toward any of these places 🙁 I think the league is prioritizing adding a team for next year, then they’ll turn their focus fully toward adding a team alongside Hagerstown in 2024. So, if I’m being optimistic, no chatter now doesn’t necessarily mean it won’t/can’t happen! A Virginia team would be great for the footprint of the league, but I feel like things have been keeping VA Beach from having a team for so long that it may be a long shot that those issues get resolved.

I'm a Blue Crabs fan living in New Haven now, so I second the idea of a Connecticut team like New Haven!

Another great vid. Johnson City, Pulaski, Salem, and Columbus GA all come to mind. Another thought is Savannah, they’re definitely making money hand over fist in the Coastal Plain league, but also why change a business model that’s working. I’m also surprised that the MLB draft league is working and that Niles, Frederick, or Williamsport couldn’t be possible. If the Atlantic league is really falling off perhaps they need to change to the AA model

Don't forget Macon, Georgia. Or say, Florence, S.C., or even somewhere in Virginia, for that matter. How about Northern Virginia, especially the area (s) closest to Washington, D.C., like Alexandria or Arlington, for instance? Any other questions or comments?

@@blazerbobcat that’s fair. London was supposed to but never materialized like Virginia Beach. VA is a weird area. NC has a mountain of minor league, Indy and college teams. There’s not a lot of ready to go stadiums in VA outside of Salem and Pulaski. Danville, Martinsville are out. Petersburg is too, and none of the Tidewater stadiums could handle it. There is a stadium in Spartanburg that could too that used to be Single A.

I'm very interested to see how things will pan out in Hagerstown. Like its defiantly exciting to see the city and state put up the funding for a new stadium, but i really question how well things will go once they do get an ALPB. I grew up going to baseball games mostly in Hagerstown and for as long as I Remember things have been pretty abysmal. Like I'm sure a new stadium will help but attendance was so bad so long I really question how successful things will be. Like I remember going to games on weeknights there and quite literally seeing crowds of less than 50 people on regular occasions.
I'm very surprised the City of Frederick, MD was not a place that has been targeted but he ALPB. Even since moving to the draft league, attendance is still very strong and the city in general is very affluent and consistently growing. I'm not sure how it would work with the wood bat league but it could be a viable temporary home. Honestly Frederick actually might have enough demand to support two teams (especially since one is short season) on a temporary basses.

That’s really interesting feedback to get from a local! I know that finances could always be an issue keeping teams from the Atlantic League. It costs several million just to get a spot in the league. So Frederick may not want to do that when they can put on baseball without all of that spending in the draft league.
Hagerstown will need to be smart with marketing. They need to explain to fans why this is different and push the fun for the fans. It may bother hardcore baseball fans, but if you want to make your baseball team successful in a non-baseball town, you need to make it an entertainment product instead of just a baseball product!

@@IndyBallNation About the draft league, I only went up there on July 4th, if there's baseball and fireworks, what I hated the most was I had general admission I was suffering from an arthritic hip at the time and some jerks put toys on the seats, reserving them. Next time I will spend a little more on a reserved seat. If I want to see summer colliagant baseball, I will just drive 10 minutes to Povich Field and see the Bethesda Big Train. They play in the Cal Ripken, Sr. League with teams from the Baltimore/Washington area.

Why not Woodbridge, VA? Or Pawtucket? What about Frederick? Why is Trenton so anti-Atlantic League? They'd be a perfect location. Th eplace was good enough to host the Buffalo Bisons when the Blue Jays were playing in Buffalo.

@@timphares3061 The Frederick team will be known as the ?'s until they unveil their name in mid June. The finalists are, Bone Shakers which are old school bikes, Rail Frogs which have to do with the Railroads there, Ghost Hounds about some legend there, Sawbones about Drs. that amputate soldiers who are wounded, and new meaning to the term "Cut off guy". And the Screaming Alpacas, about an animal that that the local 4H ground takes care of. I'm hoping for Ghost Hounds, when they take the field, the PA man could say "release the hounds!"
Unlike the Draft League Frederick Keys who are named for Frances Scott Key who is buried in the Cemetary across the street from Nymeo Field where both teams will play this year.

Watch Pulaski. Local pols want that team to get out of College Ball and to some form of Pro Ball now. Makes a lot of sense if you want to end up doing what would basically be an east west divide in the Atlantic League

I always watch Pulaski! There have been whispers about them for about a year now. Great park, great fan base. The concern will definitely be the money involved to join the league. I haven’t seen much info about that yet!

I just got into baseball this year and live really close to Lexington, and the genomes we're the new team and everyone in Lexington kinda treats them like the least favorite child (maybe because they are doing so much better than the legends). But since they got so much heat, that's my team now, so I would love genomes season two. I can pick what ever seat I want on any part of the field.

Somerset (now AA) the Ducks, Crabs, Barnstormers & Revolution have been good. The Dirty Birds are improving. The Ferry Hawks seem to be fun for the owner, and making money may not be essential. The others, no clue.
