Thank you Mr H, myself and my husband own and run Wilsons Pie Shop. My husband is the third generation of Wilsons. The Pie Shop had been around 90 years and was started by my husband's grandma. We're so glad you enjoyed our potato and meat Pie. Thanks for the great review ❤
Hi Sara, no problem and thank you for taking the time to leave a comment and share some of the history behind Wilsons Pie Shop with me. 😃 Many people who watch my videos have recommended your shop to me in the past and I thoroughly enjoyed my potato & meat pie from you, so much so that I did indeed come back for a second one before returning back to Wigan after making the video. Hope the video helps bring you some custom from people outside of Kearsley who may be passing through but like myself were previously unaware of your shop. Yourself and your husband are doing a fantastic job and you have many fans out there (myself now included).
You need to come and try our Festive Pie, turkey, ham, stuffing, gravy and cranberry topped off with a pig in blanket 👌 thanks again for the review and we'll hopefully see you again soon ❤️ @MrHsHotPot
It's about 12 months since I had a Wilsons pie and they were about £2.20 then and I've lived in Pendlebury for 37 years and I think they've been there all that time , their cheese and onion pies are absolutely lovely with creamy mashed spuds and baked beans , good vid again Mr H
Hi John, and many thanks for recommending Wilsons Pie Shop and the additional info. 👍 Shame about the price increase as I'd say £2.20 is about fair but I suppose price increases are the way of the world at the moment and that pie shops like any other business have to adjust their prices accordingly. There is the option of buying them cold for £2.15 so an extra 45p for them to cook it for you which again seems a little steep but who wants to eat their pie cold other than some weird builder somewhere? (Yes I used to work with a bloke who liked his meat & potato pie cold at brew time for some odd reason even in the depth of winter!) Anyway glad that you enjoyed the video and review hopefully I did Wilsons Pie Shop justice.
@@MrHsHotPot I prefer my pies hot apart from pork or mince ones that is , keep the vid's coming mate and have a fun Christmas and a happy and healthy new year
A Kearsley lad miself, and served mi time at that garage you can see in thi rear window. Used to go to Wilson’s several times a week…belting! Great review 👍🏻
I'm sat here eating a pie watching you eat a pie, but mines not not a meat and potato one! The best pie shop I remember as a small child which is long gone now, was Elsie Morris's pies on Wigan Road in Ormskirk. I can still smell the fragrance of those meat and potato pies wafting down the main road and queues outside waiting to buy them.
Hi Susan, and glad that you enjoyed the video and hopefully your pie. 👍 For some reason you just can't beat the taste of things from when you was a child, whether or not they genuinely did taste better or your taste buds were more responsive when you are younger I don't know. I had two favorite pie shops when I was younger the first wasn't really a pie shop but just a general type store owned by Tommy Roberts and his wife on the corner of Windleshaw Street in Lower Ince where I used to live. I've no idea where he sourced his meat & potato pies from but they was delicious and only 20p back then too! Of course this was before the days of the microwave so that may have had something to do with the taste. The second pie shop was Lacey's which used to be next door to where McDonalds in Standishgate in Wigan is and funnily enough closed down around the time of the arrival of McDonalds in 1982. I remember my Dad would always deliberately walk to Wigan that way from Lower Ince just so that we could call in for cheeky pie. Likewise both shops are now sadly long gone. 😥
That was a damn tasty looking pie Great value too Could probably get a thimble full of warm tap water down south for what you paid for that pie! All the best
Hi Nick, it was a very good pie so much so that I followed through on my threat and went back for a second one after making the video. We really are spoiled for choice up north for good pie shops but as yet the town of Bolton seems to have the most. Glad you enjoyed the video and hopefully I'll see you on the next one. 👍
Yep they used to be tasty with a side of chips and a splash of gravy from the chippy before the invention of the microwave which either turns the pastry soft or sets it like concrete depending on how long it has been left in for.
If you are serious about who makes the best pies, take your jalopy to Cheshire then visit the town of Nantwich and have a taste of the pies made by" Chatwins" a long established confectioner in the town.
Ha-ha Robb, it would be interesting to find out how many accidents happen each year on a road with such an ominous number luckily my journey each way was uneventful.😉
Hi Nigel, and thanks for the recommendation however I've already reviewed one of Bowen's meat & potato pies from their Adlington shop about a year ago now. It was indeed a treat and a very tasty pie but the price at £3.10 was a bit too steep for my liking and as yet is the second most expensive pie that I've tried to date. Anyway if you'd like to watch the video and hear why I believe they are too expensive you can watch it by following the link below where the owner of Bowen's Pies, Paul Bowen even turns up in the comments section to try and defend his prices. ua-cam.com/video/S5AwwEosDXM/v-deo.html
Agreed Nigel, and Bowen's would have scored a five with me had it not been for the price which I suspect is deliberately inflated if you buy a pie directly from one of their shops as I found other shops and even cafes that stock Bowen's pies sell them for less than if you buy one from source. I even put this to Paul Bowen in the comments section of my video and he had no answer for why this is the case other than to say that they recommend to third party vendors how much to charge per item but that ultimately it is up to them how they set their own prices afterwards. So as the old saying goes Caveat Emptor...
Second comment. The Greeks actually invented the meat pie and you Pommies brought your pies to Australia in the 18th Century but again we still perfected the meat pie to the magnificent heights the Australian meat pie has reached. Go on you all comment. Richard from Tasmania Australia 🇦🇺
Can very highly recommend you take a trip Johnsons Scouse Pies in Dingle Liverpool, best pies by far in the entire city, you have to try the Steak & Kidney pies only available Mon-Fri and get there between 9am-10am or they will all be sold, not a lie, price £1.65 each @ Nov 2024. the Meat & Potato pies are unchanged in recipe & quality since I was a kid and I'm 60 now, love them with a large cup of 2 oxos poured over, lovely.

Hi Paul, personally speaking I enjoyed it and would recommend them but one man's meat is another man's poison as the old saying goes I suppose. However if have a favorite pie shop that you would recommend and think can beat this one especially if it's small and independent then please feel free to give them a shout out and who knows maybe I'll visit it in the future. 👍 Anyway take care, enjoy the rest of your day and all the best.
