One of the key elements to keep speedrunning relevant for a game IMO is delivering entertainment to a wider audience that is interested in watching it and even become compelled at trying it themself. Without seeing how it's done, the time they put out becomes much less relevant, since I can't see it for myself how they have done. Just knowing someone has done it is far from the experience you get than actually witnessing it. Ofcourse this can't work with obvious cheating like this, but it further gives reason to have video evidence of your achievements to be legitemate. Otherwise it's just another kid bragging in the sandbox that always has excuses when they have to proof it. I will not care or be interested in FF speedkills if its just a number of the screen that I just simply have to believe.
Just like how you said. Just because they cheat doesn't mean they are not the best, they can be both. Then the same applies to using ACT. Just because someone uses ACT doesn't mean they are cheating. If someone is just using it parse damage then that's just reading information the game gives you anyways and displays it to you in an easier way to read. That's not really cheating. For one it gives you no advantage in game against other players. Now you can use it like you mentioned for callouts which can be seen as cheating but not everyone does.
Part of cheating is slowly redrawing the line of what you think is acceptable. Till one day you realised you have already crossed it and either you stop or more likely all breaks go loose. And you can push believing you aren't a cheater pretty far. There is of course some difference between everyone as to what they consider cheating. From the one extreme where you can only use ingame communication, no guide, all learend on the spot. To it being fine to use discord, ingame macros to help with mechs as long as it is vanilla. To using tools as am and parsing, video playback. To automating positions you "do know how to do but just want to be consistent at". Ect ect. Everyone lies somewhere on that spectrum and between each position there are a multitude of small steps that can push you to the next position on cheating. All which may seem logical at the time but when viewed as a whole is clearly cheating
I actually find this very cool! That must be a lot of work to code and also it is amazing to see it working! Personally, I think they really missed the mark when they bragged about it. If I could build something like this I'd come out as a TAS, take the ban, and brag about my programing skills.
Oh I'm such a casual player... I didn't know you could speedrun FFXIV. What does that even entail? I'm assuming not the whole game? Just like, ultimates or the more challenging content?
I blame SE for the lack of security. If they had made a clear stance on injections being against tos, outright banning ACT and all bots like miqobot etc, this wouldn’t have been an issue at all. 😂😂😂
@ek9750 It's not really designed to complete immediately. I still haven't done the new msq part of 7.1 yet, because I've got other things to do. Just because you've the hours to spare online doesn't mean everyone else on the game does. The game doesnt revolve around you.
@@maybayV2 neither does the game revolve around you. If you played the game for years and naturally caught up with content these patches barely offer enough content to last a week unless it's time gated. I've been barely playing since Endwalker and for an MMO the amount of long term content is not up to the standard.
Watch a lot of Karl Jobst. Common thing he says is if you're good at something, you're going to be more likely to cheat because you know how it works and can more easily get away with it than someone who's bad.
'Who the autor is or what they have accomplished shouldn't matter' and just a bit further down 'First and only person to beat SC's real Moonfire Tower time' - shit is personal ;d
As someone who raided all the savages of Endwalker and used ACT. It 100% was cheating LOL. The amount of shit it calls out and just auto solves for you was crazy. And yet we still had fun
They cheated on that. Someone went over their climb footage with video editing software and timed jump animations by the frame, and apparently they shortened their video by cutting out random single frames during jumps, a total of 160+ frames by the lowest estimate (could be up to double because they posted a 30 fps twitter video and play in 60 fps). That saved them at least 3 seconds (but up to 6), and gives them first instead of second place.
1 minute in and already bad take, every single extremely competitive sweaty gamer i know loves making games harder by ranking up playing hardest most mechanical characters in every game. those cheaters (and probably 80% of others who think fflog ranking is a real archevment) only care about the bragging rights of being #1. they don't care about the glory of combat.
The best part is these players who got banned literally don't care. They probably laughed when they saw this google doc like "damn these nerds got super salty and had me live rent free in their heads"
Nah, japanese players are particularly prideful about their places on the community, so much in fact that they DOX players that have been proven to be cheaters and cast them out of the community forever
I think it's a bad take to compare video game cheating to physical sports. It's not cheating to have a better body because you don't have a choice of your genetics. It's cheating to use means to augment your body beyond physical training. There's a difference; one is a choice. Just because a baseball player doesn't have good eyesight doesn't mean the player with good eyesight cheated. I don't know if I misunderstood your point or not.
His argument is that the common person with average genes /already/ cannot compete with those gifted with genetics. On top of being gifted with genetics, they push even further through doping or drugs. Take Steroids and baseball for your own example. The player is already centuries ahead of the common person, but pushes even further through doping.
@ui8087 alright I guess I get it, I think this is reference to unnamed specifically being good players and cheating on top of that, and the analogy of cheating is the doping up part rather than the genetics.
I can't believe that FF14 still does not have anti cheat software. These are only the guys that were caught, cheating is probably rampant in this game. The only good players for sure are the console players 🤣
Because there's no way for a software to differentiate between a cheat and a plugin that lets you wear hats on vieras. If we had an anti cheat we wouldn't have any plugins and more people use plugins for fun than to cheat for a competitive edge so it'd harm the overall playerbase
If there was anti cheat, this game would 100% die way faster. A lot of the people running this game paying for sub every single month are using plugins.
@@skcans Yeah there is, WoW uses something called Warden but you're right that it requires a dedicated team of people. Yoshi does not want to invest in that, this costs money and it's constant policing.
@@skcans Really? We as humans are able to launch a rover on mars, you'd think that we could detect if players are pixel perfect on top of each other in a video game. Either way, Blizzard has anti cheat software, but I can't tell you how it works because it's closely safe guarded. I just know they banned me back in the day, deservely so.
Just because you believe everyone cheats doesn't mean you should downplay discovery of cheaters. It's still reprehensible and you deserve all of the distrust you garner from cheating. If you're going to perpetuate the idea that everyone cheats than that is the fastest way to kill interest in your sport since you begin to call into question everyone who performs at the top. This is why we don't have official support from Square Enix for world first clears anymore since even though they're a scumbag corporation they at least know public perception matters. Honestly, this is an L take from Xeno.
Everyone knows this has been going on for years who has played the game and paid attention to "high level" FFXIV. The devs don't care, unless they are forced to by world drama, so why should you? TEA world first still stands and it clearly uses basically a hack program.
I think in the end the point is that it just doesn't matter for basically anyone. There is no official competition in the game. This is all randomly "made up", fflogs itself doesn't even use metrics everyone agrees with in how they rate your parse. There's no leaderboards in game for damage or speed of clear etc. It's all external and playermade. We all know there is no way in hell cheaters get banned 'cause Squeenix doesn't care one bit. And nobody REALLY respects anyone else clearing content because it's just a silly little MMO. Someone else cheating doesn't impact my enjoyment of the game AT ALL. I spend time in an ultimate 'cause I find it fun to learn and then execute, that isn't changed or inhibited by others cheating, and my sense of prestige isn't ruined because it only matters what YOU think about YOUR achievements. I 100% agree in cases like Ishgard Restoration, where Squeenix is actually ranking people and even giving rewards based on success. Same for PvP, Saucer Tournaments etc. But for something like this it's genuinely just a "yeah, duh" case.
your views on cheating are among the dumbest ever. throwing out blanket statements like "in a competitive environment everyone cheats" is just plain wrong and an insult to athletes busting their balls everyday to perform at the highest possible level
FFLogs isn't illegal at all. It doesn't alter anything in the game, it just shows data from the game. Just like how a scoreboard at a baseball diamond doesn't affect the balls or bats used in the game.
Haven't they highlighted that DPS trackers are against ToS though? Honest question. While I get it falls under one of those don't talk about it, nothing happens because it's not traceable. I feel like I remember them being so against 3rd party apps.
@@mpstory4ever Yeah for sure but some people don't care about that they just want the clout for being the best and they'll do whatever it takes to get that
This isn't rank 1 for a job, it's rank 1 group speedrun. Obviously xeno gets rank 1's consistently without "cheating". Also nobody cares that you are rank 1. It's a meaningless leaderboard in a game where people sell the highest end content for barely any gil and less than 10 dollars. If YOU are happy you spent that time doing that then that's fine but nobody cares. Not to mention sage and whm are probably the most braindead jobs to parse high with.
@@mpstory4ever Fun is subjective. For some automating everything in this game is fun because it's a fun process to create something that will allow you to do these automations and to make them work. The person who made ACT plugin for FF14 hasn't played the game since Creator iirc, and has stated that maintaining the plugin is more fun than playing the game and that's why he still does it. In my opinion the game is incredibly stale. While the fights can still be fun, all jobs are incredibly boring and all feel identical to play. The ceiling of most jobs is too easy to reach and there's barely any meaningful optimisations to do. When game is boring to play you look for other ways to create fun for yourself. I do not create any plugins myself but I find them more fun than the game. It's a really interesting case that I have never seen in person. Online only game with no anticheat at all is an oddity and I can't help but stare at it and poke the wasp nest knowing that I'll be totally fine if I do it.

What do you do against the guy who's great at the game AND P2W the best gear? He used all that time you spent grinding to get better at the game, now what?
Good thing nobody cares about competitive FFXIV. That being said, TEA / DSR / TOP world first* were all technically cleared with "cheating". TEA probably the most egregious yet people seem to not talk about it.
As a face 3 miqo who speedruns ff14, I do not claim relation to these miqos
Do you have the hair style and hair color?
@@nodot17 I used to use the ponytail but then everyone started using it so I changed to the one in my icon for a bit and now I use a shorter hair. Color is like silver/white with purple highlights
I also only solo speedrun random trials and dungeons when bored, I'm not in a group doing savages or anything
Imagine if they are beginning to "sell" script in order to do the fight for you in order to achieve the kills now ...
@13:35 yup you never pixel perfect stack as no one can see shit if you need to identify a mechanic lol
I won't lie, When I saw SC up there I IMMEDIATELY thought about the tower speed run.
Why am I not surprised they're all catgirls.
Ha! Look at all those F Miqo- hey wtf D:< that 1 Lala!?
What are you doing DX< !? Shame... mhm...
The fact they cheated that hard for the leaderboard is funny to me
Glad youre back to making ffxiv vidoes and not ignorant political videos
Like Yugi Moto, you can be the best and also cheat 😉😂
I actually find this very cool! That must be a lot of work to code and also it is amazing to see it working! Personally, I think they really missed the mark when they bragged about it. If I could build something like this I'd come out as a TAS, take the ban, and brag about my programing skills.
we’re boutta have ffxiv esports
So.....trust update incoming?
Oh I'm such a casual player... I didn't know you could speedrun FFXIV. What does that even entail? I'm assuming not the whole game? Just like, ultimates or the more challenging content?
the doubling down is crazy CINEMA
I only cheat in single player games because it's not against any online rules. Can't ban me for cheating in a single player game.
I blame SE for the lack of security. If they had made a clear stance on injections being against tos, outright banning ACT and all bots like miqobot etc, this wouldn’t have been an issue at all. 😂😂😂
Love that I can hear every movement your tongue makes in your mouth! So awesome!
I wish people would get this angry over SE starving the game.
what does this mean
@@undercoverspy123 You see, people rush to complete content as soon as it comes out and then complain that there's no content
@@TwilightWolf2508what does rushed mean? completing the content that is designed to last a week (more like a day or two lol) in a week?
@ek9750 It's not really designed to complete immediately.
I still haven't done the new msq part of 7.1 yet, because I've got other things to do.
Just because you've the hours to spare online doesn't mean everyone else on the game does.
The game doesnt revolve around you.
@@maybayV2 neither does the game revolve around you. If you played the game for years and naturally caught up with content these patches barely offer enough content to last a week unless it's time gated. I've been barely playing since Endwalker and for an MMO the amount of long term content is not up to the standard.
Scrubs cheat. No excuses. Ban.
Watch a lot of Karl Jobst. Common thing he says is if you're good at something, you're going to be more likely to cheat because you know how it works and can more easily get away with it than someone who's bad.
Hair is perma banned from xeems head
Imagine what the nightclub peoples and the rpers could do with this technology lol
I need the part 2
Why is he breathing so suggestively into the microphone
i thought the drama would come after FRU!
I thought we'd get drama during the world race, just like with TOP.
'Who the autor is or what they have accomplished shouldn't matter' and just a bit further down 'First and only person to beat SC's real Moonfire Tower time' - shit is personal ;d
If you ain't cheatin you ain't tryin
if you ain't first, you're last
so ACT is equivalent to WoW's deadly boss mod? cause it does pretty much the same thing minus the parsing
yeah those callouts are allowed in WoW but not in ff14. It probs the least "harmful" tool out there cause it barely helps day 1/week 1 raiding
If you're talking about callouts, ACT doesn't do this out of the box. You need to activate extra stuff, such as Cactbot or your own custom callouts.
lol those knockbacks
cheesetart noooooooo another cute cat girl gone D: truly we only suffer
why cheat? just crit harder xd
As someone who raided all the savages of Endwalker and used ACT. It 100% was cheating LOL. The amount of shit it calls out and just auto solves for you was crazy. And yet we still had fun
only if u install the cheating plugins out the box it just tracks damage
again?
the JP version of their response doc is so different from the EN version lol
Strawberry cheesetart held the fastest time on one of the climbing things from what i remember shame to see it
They cheated on that.
@banzaikawa damn. Good they're gone then
1 minute in and already bad take, every single extremely competitive sweaty gamer i know loves making games harder by ranking up playing hardest most mechanical characters in every game.
those cheaters (and probably 80% of others who think fflog ranking is a real archevment) only care about the bragging rights of being #1. they don't care about the glory of combat.
Oh wow
This is a bigger cliffhanger than when a main character dies in a season finale, holy cinema
I honestly never expected Metal Kuraa to cheat...
Crazy part is that nobody's getting paid for any of this. What boredom does to a mf
Man whoever recorded those videos he's watching needs to learn their mic doesn't need to be on while they're recording silent footage.
''Great players dont cheat to get fast times they cheat to get fast times faster''
You probably should rewatch that part because I don't think that's what he means at all.
🍿
Excellent ASMR mi'lord.
Anti cheat = square can't farm the people that treat this game like imvu with a 100+ mods
Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if Xeno cheats as much as he simps for them.
NOT STRAWBERRY! Not after pint's epic speedrunning video....SUCH DEVASTATION!
your views on cheating are among the dumbest ever.
throwing out blanket statements like "in a competitive environment everyone cheats" is just plain wrong and an insult to athletes busting their balls everyday to perform at the highest possible level
wait why is it wrong to cheat on an illegal third party website?
Are you serious? Do you know what the intent of FFlogs is?
They're cheating in game, it's just reflected on logs.
FFLogs isn't illegal at all. It doesn't alter anything in the game, it just shows data from the game. Just like how a scoreboard at a baseball diamond doesn't affect the balls or bats used in the game.
Go to bed, my dude
Haven't they highlighted that DPS trackers are against ToS though? Honest question. While I get it falls under one of those don't talk about it, nothing happens because it's not traceable. I feel like I remember them being so against 3rd party apps.
Guess I'm cheating with a full head of hair
NOT STRAWBERRY CHEESETART
its 100% possible to get a rank 1 on fflogs without cheating. I know that bc I'm the rank 1 SGE lol
Yeah but with a bot you don't even need to play the game. It takes 0 effort to get the same results
@@skcans oh yea I don't disagree they cheated. Getting something with no effort takes a way all the fun
