Thanks for your videos. I had my DR5000 running with my iPad in no time. It all worked first time. Very clear instructions at a pace you can follow along.
Hi Rudy. I have watched several UA-cam videos on setting up the DR5000 but none of them clarify two issues. Can you help? 1) Once you have set up a WiFi connection, can you then disconnect the USB cable & operate the system normally? 2) If you are connected to your PC by WiFi you are no longer able to connect your PC to other programs, such as to use email. Is there any way around this without using USB or LAN cables for DR5000? Thank you.
Hello Rudy, maybe you can help me. I'm doing all the steps, I connect the laptop and the phone or tabled to the DR500. But I cannot connect the Z21 app to the DR5000. After I put the IP address of the DR5000 in the app and click "Reconnect.." nothing happens. With the phone (Samsung Z20+) sometimes I get the connection, sometimes not. With the tablet (Samsung and Teclast/Chinese brand) I never could connect. Just for info, I did not have any problems with the Tablet and the Z21 Roco station. There the wifi connection was always done. PS: DR5000 was set on Z21 protocol, address was 192.168.16.254 on the Z21 settings. PPS: I tried with both Z21 apps (old and new)
Hard to tell what is happening why it won't connect. I bet your best chances are to try an intensive Google search or post on some model railway forums, chances are someone out there had similar issues and has tips. You could also try email Digikeijs or Roco.
Mvgr, Marcel
What to do with an older desktop does not have Wi-Fi At this moment the DR5000 is connected to the desktop via usb and my desktop(without wifi) is connected to the fritzbox (home network) router using cat5 cables. Kind regards, Marcel
Marcel If your laptop does not have WiFi then you miss out on the Z21 app on your iOS or Android device as a remote control. The DR5000'then still is a great multi protocol Command Station, you're just missing this one option, unless you get yourself a WiFi USB dongle to equip your laptop with WiFi ... they are not expensive.
I did not expect such a quick reaction, thank you very much !! Too bad, I'm going to buy a USB dongle for the desktop and try again, furthermore very satisfied with the DR5000 Regards
Hi Rudy, it is a great video, just going through your videos. I have got two questions, as I'm beginner with this Digikeijs stuff. 1. If you connect PC via wifi with the DR5000, then the computer will lost the access to the internet, as the computer cannot be connected to the more than one wi-fi devices? 2. Is the Z21 app for free to use, if you don't use Z21 central?
Tony Daly I can't say with certainty cause I don't have one to try it out. But if it operates on either Loconet or Xpressnet I see no reason why it shouldn't work.
James Adducci I use DCC commands to control LED strips mounted above my layout. See this blog post for that: rudysmodelrailway.wordpress.com/2016/01/24/rgb-led-strip-control-with-arduino-and-dcc/
Ruud Boer Thanks again for the link. I read through and watch the video. This is exactly what i would like to do. So i will pursue this project. I have never done a project with Ardiuno before. Is this a roadblock? What ardiuno kit am I buying?
James Adducci All you need can be bought at Aliexpress. Search for 'Arduino R3 Uno'. To drive the LED strips, instead of building the hardware circuit like I did, it is much easier to use a pre assembled FET unit per channel, search for 'Arduino FET'. To get the DCC data to your Arduino you need to solder an opto coupler circuit as shown on the 'Software' page. For the software, you'll need to download and install the Arduino IDE software. Then download the software package from my blog 'Software' page , you'll also find the CH340 drivers that you need in there.
Ruud Boer A follow up question. Did you do a video on how to setup the RGB control buttons in Traincontroller? I am impressed that you can find the time for all of these fun projects....

HI Rudy watched all your train controller videos you are a master at explaining this difficult subject, do you recommend the Digikeijs DR5000 + feed back modules working with Traincontroller gold is this basically all i need
Yes I would recommend that, it is a combination that works well. If you're in for very attractively priced DCC accessory decoders and Loconet feedback modules I can recommend to have a look at the ARCOMORA website.
i will do that thanks for the advice , going to give up with hornbys loco detection but didn't really want to start cutting track into blocks unless train detection can be done optically?
Western Ranger , It is very well possible to use optical sensors, it is just that they are more difficult to use and require more wiring that made me go for reeds ... reeds have the maximum simplicity and flexibility in use.

Love my Z21. I have had the system for 3 years and it has worked perfectly. I like both versions of the app. Rob
do you have to have the pc switch on whenever using the app?

What a great information video! Thank you i'm pretty much sold on the dijikeys

Bedankt Ruud! Je was ook hulpvol om mijn oude Marlins weer naar (regelbaar) dcc++ te brengen. Hier in nl we zeggen ""geniet er zolang er nog kan"

does this support Digikeijs block detection and automation?
Yes, it's the perfect automation companion since it supports so many interface protocols, loconet, Xpressnet, S88.
Great informative video, got mine working perfectly, the z21 app is a great app for control. Thank you so much!

David

Yes, when your PC or tablet or phone connects to the DR5000 wifi it can't at the same time connect to the internet. The Z21 app is free.
Hi Rudy.
Does the NCE Pro Cab work with the Digikeijs dr5000 ?
Tony Daly I can't say with certainty cause I don't have one to try it out. But if it operates on either Loconet or Xpressnet I see no reason why it shouldn't work.
Perhaps someone else might know ?
Not yet, perhaps in a future firmware release, I believe it is planned
Guess I'll have to wait so.
Sorry but why show an NCE Pro Cab in the video so ?
Rudy...LOVE the videos. Have you discovered any way to integrate layout lighting or room environment lighting like wifi enable smart bulbs?

Western Ranger , I use reed switches and little magnets under the trains. Works perfect and there is no need to cut the track into sections.
thats good didn't fancy cutting the track pitty there isn't a optical version ?
keep up the good work Ruud

Bedankt voor deze leerzame video!!
Hi Ruud maybe that could be your next video, I think it would create a lot of interest
Regards Tony
thanks a lot!
IK bedoel iuteraard geen Merelin c.q.tovenaar hiermee, sorry
That wifi key should be changed ASAP 🤪
