Great video, the "can I beat pokemon with X restriction" videos are a pretty tired format by now, but the TCG game is not only more interesting in my opinion, but also something new. I'm not surprised you struggled against the electric trainers, Electabuzz is widely known to be one of the best cards in base set because of it's great energy to damage ratio. Hitmonchan and Scyther are also very strong, and all 3 were used in a very old deck called Haymaker which won games with fast and efficient damage.
I love that the science club just casually has a Mewtwo card. Good job on defeating everyone! It was really interesting to watch you try to beat all the fire types and stall out Rod lol
You should play the game! Can emulate it on your phone pretty easily. It does a grea job of teaching how to play older formats, but I don't have a clue how the modern game works.
Dude, i've been watching a bunch of your videos about Pokémon Trading Card for the game boy color, and i really enjoy them. i thought i was the only on mad lad who still played this and i came here and you did a lot of really interesting challenges.
This was fun to watch. I seriously thought you'd hit a brick wall with the Fire Club, but for some reason, the game thought that using Fire against you was a dumb idea.
Honestly, Parasect has a special place in my heart, despite not being my favorite Pokemon I think the closest it comes is top ten, but even then... it doesn't always stay there. That being said, I recognized that Parasect got batter in the Main Series each and every Generation, despite other mons getting more support, so it's not like it was completely forgotten!! And with the now buffed Leech Life, it's able to stand tall and say "I have had this move since the beginning!!!"

So, the way I would build a Parasect only deck would be as follows: 4x Paras 4x Parasect 4x Professor Oak 4x Bill 4x Super Energy Removal 4x Energy Removal 4x Computer Search 4x Gust of Wind 3x Energy Search 3x Pokeball 2x Pokedex 2x Gambler 1x Lass 4x Double Colorless Energy 13x Grass Energy It's a pretty simple deck and could probably hold its own against a regular Haymaker deck (not any Magmar variants, though). You'll most likely start on one Paras, so you just need to turbo out the other three and their evolutions. You'll mainly be deep-drawing for them using Professor Oak and Bill, but you also have Computer Search, and Pokeballs in a pinch. The Gamblers and Lass are anti-deckout tools, so you can return your cards to the deck after drawing like crazy to get what you need. Once you've filled your bench, you only really need one DCE and one Grass per Pokemon, and since you're just flinging fast 30-for-3s at your opponent you don't need to get too technical with switching things out. Super Energy Removals and Energy Removals are to keep your opponent from doing anything while you beat up their Pokemon.
Haha great vid, this really highlights the problems with the format of the pokemon trading card game given that reducing the number of pokemon in your deck to just one line can arguably make the game easier.
Yeah it definitely had its pros. I never had to worry about types of energy at all and there was only that one instance where I needed Paras over Parasect. Decision making was quick haha
I recently did a bunch of monotype runs. I got through about half of them but fighting was frustrating as hell. The fun part is that for the first few battles you're forced to play with about half a deck of garbage and building back to something usable is really satisfying.
Recently played through this game with the good ol haymaker deck. I don't recommend it as mows through everyone with little effort. But making a video based on beating the game with the original base set, jungle and fossil meta decks would be interesting.

I didn't have this as a kid, but I did get it on my 3DS virtual console. while listening to your reasonings in battle I was reminded of the fun of strategizing in a tcg. Duel Masters were always my favorite, but I dabbled in magic and pokemon as well

Best deck ive made in this game, always wins: 4x Jigglypuff GB (for roll call) 4x wigglytuff 4x Pokemon fossil 4x Bill 4x proffesor oak 4x Pokemon trader 4x ratata 4x energy search 2x pokedex 4x pokeball 4x double energy 12x grass energy (or any really) The whole point is to get as many bench pokemon as possible, get jigglypuff first turn as main, then get wigglytuff as soon as possible, attach double energy and any emergy after, and do 60 damage on second turn. Instantly annihalates other team, and no time for enemy setup.
Thinking about this, Parasect would be cool in Pokemon Unite as a support Pokemon whose main priority is debuffs to opponents with some healing for himself. Plus it needs a variant
i remember one time a friend of mine gave me like 3 binders full of pokemon cards, it was so many, he had to bring the binders in a plastic bag to school i dont think i even brought up i'd want them, he just knew i liked pokemon .... spent a good 3 hours that night organizing y cards then sadly a few months later, finding no use for them (No one i knew at the time played pokemon cards) i sold them

I remember the first time I beat that game. I lost to Ronald the first time, but beat him the second time in one turn since he only got an Eevee, and I had a Machop with a Pluspower. Anti-climactic, but oh so satisfying.

This was an excellent watch, and pleasant presenttation, I really liked it :) You redrawing at the beginning of the battle over and over again until you got a Paras reminded me of how I used only 2 Zapdos in my deck at the time, and just had the game redraw until I had it in hand, powering them up, and destroying the opponents bench ^^;

If you had 4 of Basic Electabuzz (not the Promo one), Scyther and Hitmonchan you'd steamroll this game, and, unsurprisingly, the 2nd one as well. These Pokémon cards of the 1st TCG generation were so overpowered it was basically unfair to play against the AI with a deck based around them.

You do know that you could have used spore with Parasect to put Mr Mime to sleep right? Pokemon powers are negated by sleep, confusion and paralysis.

That Mr. Mime is a pain, but your parasect has Spore, which will put it to sleep, and then Mime's ability is negated.

Against the Mr. Mime his invisible wall ability gets disabled if he is asleep, while it is a coin flip Parascect can damage him.

The only meaning for the levels on the cards is to differentiate betweeen cards with the same names and different attacks on this tiny screen format

Could it be the game recognizes you have a team that might have a hard time with the gym, so it holds off on super effectives? Or is the fire gym REALLY just tauros, chansey and growlithe/arcanine? :O
Nah it’s really like that. I’m surprised he didn’t get smoked with more Magmar tho.
Theres a magmar in there as well, hes lucky he didnt get magmar, because he has a 2 fire energy fire punch that hits for 30 OHKO on paras
I had the same strategy, but with more luck against Donald the final time, he couldn't get a heads to save his life.

If you had 4 of Basic Electabuzz (not the Promo one), Scyther and Hitmonchan you'd steamroll this game, and, unsurprisingly, the 2nd one as well. These Pokémon cards of the 1st TCG generation were so overpowered it was basically unfair to play against the AI with a deck based around them.
