This wax melting prototype was made by thornemfg.com/product/25-gallon-bottling_wax-tank/ their finished model is fancier but I was glad to have a small part in helping refine this wax melter. Big thanks to David with Goodjobbees.com and Ian Steppler for their advice too!
Arguably that dirt floor made things a lot easier than if it were concrete or something!
Why's that? You would just scrape it off the concrete as they did the dirt floor , and you wouldnt be stuck with so much dirt. I think the dirt floor made it harder than concrete, but certainly better than say a wood floor.
A bad morning becomes a great family day. Having the children involved allows them to feel like they got to help mommy n dady. Ice cream is an extra bonus 😋
You said it!
Well raised kids hopefully will grow up to learn responsibility.
God bless your beautiful family! 🙏👨👩👦❤️😊💐🐝🌱🌿🌹
Your kids are amazing, Buddy.
Sh.. happens!
Omg what are you teaching this kids Kamon! "Why do I feel kind of like a slave?" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Rainy day in Northern California. So funny watching. I remember the days in my family when my children helped uncap and extract honey. Yes I have to laugh. Like when I was ready to load my hives by hand and go into almond pollination. The commercial beekeeper I was going under said to wait. It snowed a foot and a half, then he called me 3 days later that I needed to bring them into the growers orchard. Is it Murphy's Law or Karma I wonder sometimes! :) 🐝
😭oh that lovely wax🙊,🙉,🙈, yikes! Look at what a wonderful teachable moment your created, this is how you make a clean spot on dirt with wax lol.🤠Start Over. Put the crud in your garden.🌻Kamon look at it this way you can now tell the maker you put it through an EXTREME, product test.
😂Their reaction at first is priceless., Worth all the mess, lol kids are " but dad you messed up, why do we have to clean it up". 😇Happy Family, Happy Bees, Happy Keeper...Ty for sharing your families time, Blessed Days...
all that dirt, is useless now. Great video and music made it so much more enjoyable. 🙂
Yes I did that with a 20 frame radial honey extractor in my cabins kitchen at the ranch. It was up on a wooden platform I build at a height were you could put a 5 gallon bucket with a two part stainless steel honey screen separator on top and leave the gate valve of the extractor on to keep the spun honey level from getting to high but to let it go down and not creep up to the bottom of the frames spinning. Then turn your back, start uncapping by hand into a 20 frame stainless steel long box with metal legs made for that and forgetting to shut off the extractor gate behing you. Honey overflowed the plastic 5 gallon bucket with its own gate valve but all over the floor and aroung the buckets, the 4 x of my stand and up to the kitchen sink, cabinets, and old wood cook stove. Your right in these moments thou I cry first, laugh later after clean up! 😢😅🐝
On a bright site, the floor in now clean. Thank you for sharing
Well all is not lost. Just start again and it will be super clean lol! Great work team.
Heck of a way to clean your floor!! 😂🤣🌱🐝🌿💐😳😎👌😕And add some yummies to your compost pile! 🌱😁🐝🌹🌻😃👍
Oh my gosh, a mini Kamon! He looks just like you 🐝☺️
Look how clean that floor was under the wax, that's a neat way to clean the floor 👍
I like that positive spin
They said a waxed floor was the way to go!
That was my first thought as well.
Kamon. You and your wife are so good for your kids. If I only had parents like you. As a kid I would have rathered been born to parents like you than any millionaire family. I'm now 63 and all my life I had wished for a father and a mother that could have taught me like you teach your kids. Unfortunately it never happened. I came from the school of hard knocks. Migrated from Australia to Canada 11 years ago and married my wife. A whole new life.
It pleases me to watch you learn and how you work. And I'm learning so much from you about bee's, and your general attitude in life. My wife and I just started bee keeping and we are waiting on our first 2 nucs. Thank you for helping us start this new adventure. And keep up the good work with your bees and your family.
Terry, thanks so much for your generous comment. I was fortunate to have parents that were great and I am attempting to be as good to my kids as they were to me and my 2 brothers. Hard to do but it is an important job!
Thanks for hoppin on and happy beekeeping!
That's a character builder! the kids seemed to enjoy helping.
Yes Character building!
It is great to see .5 to 1 hard at work again and he seems to have a real good helper too. You two are doing a great job teaching the kids how to work, which is something missing for most kids today. Please continue to include the kids in your videos.
Hahaha .5 to 1
Oh dear Kamon. One time I forgot to shut the tank valve on my honey extractor and had a good pint of honey on my kitchen floor. All over.
Seems like it is a right of passage! Fun fun fun.
From a mess to a some family fun. Your kids are awwwwesome!!!!
Fantastic couple of workers you've got there.
Dude as a musician this is the first time I can say I love the background music!
Thanks I used to play that tune Salt Creek in bluegrass competitions back in the day. I still love jamming to that song.
@@kamonreynolds 🤙💪
Great video. This is a language thing. When my kids were young I told them to never use the word slave in context of themselves. There is no way one can even fathom the realities of a slave in today's life as they live in modern comforts.
Haha what troopers hope you take them to their favorite restaurant or shopping store. Lol they are sweet.
It's a good learning experience! Kids, sometimes you will make a mistake. But what's important is you keep going, keep trying, and you will succeed in anything you put your hearts into. Especially if there's ice cream. Lol
Lmao Kamon!! "Nice... Clean... Dirt floor with a rug of beeswax!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I really enjoyed this video! I had a few laughs at the comments. Your slaves are very sweet and helpful hard workers.
Thanks for watching and commenting Scott!
I recently watched a video on population decline. One reason stated was in cities children are a financial drain, whereas in traditional homesteads and farms their labour was actually beneficial and financial positive. So here I was watching this video as I work musing on this idea and your kid say "why do I feel like a slave" and it made me laugh. Great work fixing the mess everyone :)
If it was honey you would never get out of the dog house. One thing about wax you can melt it strain it and it's good as new. You had some great help and they did a great job. 👍❤️🐝
Love the life lesson for your children...how to make a chore seem fun and rewarding
Tennessee must have the best child labor laws, it is amazing what you can get for a few treats. LOL
I make maple syrup on the hobby level and there’s a lot of transfer and collection. I have to constantly say out loud to check the valves before walking away. But every once in a while you can count on forgetting one open.
And it stinks everytime!
One of the things I taught my kids was that ‘he who makes the mess cleans the mess’. But I can see the whole family pitching in. It’s good for kids to discover that their parents aren’t perfect. It is the beginning of the development who who they are and understanding responsibility. Fun day!
Loved the kids helping. Also the tune Salt Creek. There must be connection in there somewhere.
Thanks! I have played Salt Creek in bluegrass competitions for many years. Still one of my favorites. That and blackberry blossom
@@kamonreynolds well, I play a mandolin when I have the time to practice. I have searched the UA-cam folks for fiddle tunes and even some of the obscure Irish tunes. I am currently working on Mississippi Sawyer of which there are variations too numerous to play all of them. I worked at the Flatiron Mando factory for several years and came out with a nice little A-5. I played bluegrass guitar in a couple informal bands during the late 70s. It was more fun than the law would allow. Cheers, my friend. Bob in SW MT.
@@robertshorthill6836 I know exactly what you mean! Here is my buddies and I pickin and grinnin! ua-cam.com/video/dmQ96kNwqhU/v-deo.html
Flatiron??!! Wow I love those mandolins almost bought one years ago and wish I did! Take care Bob!
Well on the bright side.... at least you have a wax melter! :)
Remelt again - nothing else to do . . . (keep the straw for winter fire starter)
Lol, you screwed up , your kids clean up the mess ha ha
Ice Cream...Bribery at its best!
Back in the days when I had more than 10 colonies, I would melt blocks like these and take it to Polson, MT for sale at the Western Bee Supply store there. I got cash, and foundation mostly. It would take 2 or 3 years to get a decent quantity like this. These were the days before Varroa became the problem it is now days. And I was a whole lot younger, as we all were. I now live in SW MT where swarms are few from feral bee colonies.
Thanks for sharing Robert that is some neat pre varroa history!
Great wax recovering music Kamon!
Thanks Cory! That song is called Salt Creek
Jimmy is my hero ❤️
All I can add is good job, to your kids and you really as to sharing a life's lesson.
God bless you and your family....you owned it "from lemons to lemonade"
Thanks Richard good to hear from you!
Kamon, looks like you need to take a black marker & write “CLOSE ALL VALVES” on the outside of the melter. 🐝👍
I may do that!
Take that black market and write the same thing on his front door lol
Thank you for showing all the events that may arise during beekeeping so that people may learn also from mistakes.
Just some good old fashioned wholesome family bonding time right there...
You will never forget to close the valve again!
You said it!
Laurel left you unsupervised again didn’t she Kamon! 🤣
Great video. Thanks for sharing!
Yup!
K&L, sorry you made the mistake and created yourselves so much extra work. I can’t get over how much Kathleen and Jimmy have grown! You have 2 beautiful children! Jimmy was so little when I started watching your channel and now he’s big enough to help you. I remember some of your early videos with the children in them. Time flies so enjoy them because they grow up so fast! Time steals your babies.
🍦🐝I want some ice cream!
There was a wild fire at the local shooting range and the backstops burned down.. All that wax is was all the lead looked like. There were guys out there with axes chopping it up.
Woah 😳 that must have been wild!
I LOVE you and your wife's relationship. you know it's love when you give each other a hard time. I swear my hubby's favorite pastime is annoying me!
Thanks for sharing!!! I was thinking, a great allowance, lol!!!
Oh man, I feel for you! We once had the handle of a 5 gallon bucket of honey break while carrying it to the house. 5 gallons of honey on the driveway. Thought maybe we could scrape up most of it and feed it to the bees. But no, a sudden Texas thunderstorm washed it all away in minutes.
Now Elizabeth wants a melting tank like that.
Better get one someday then!
@@kamonreynolds The plan is to pick one up at the Hive Life conference.
Man i love that you get your kids involved, and that they want to be involved also
Hello, ...
I hope they enjoyed their ice cream, they earned it for sure !!!
We don't have thoses kinds a framing here yet, as we keep bringing our wax to "wax sheets" makers .
Wired nd waxed frames are still in use ...
If theses coming from honey cells caps it still is some short of a shame turn into a lesson .
Respect !
Dare, care, ride safe, clean, have fun ...

Kamon, My first time seeing your kids, your boy Jimmy looks just like you. They deserve a nice ice-cream treat for all their hard work.
He is sometimes more like his Daddy than Laurel would like hehe but yeah we are buddies!
A very valuable lesson learned. Thanks for showing us minding your bee's wax oops.
Great spilled wax clean up tunes.
Thanks N.E.G. that song is Salt Creek if you don't know already!
A well taught lesson for those kids. When you fail clean it up the best you can and move on! Sometimes our frustrations have reasons behind them that we can't see. Good Job!
Great video showing even experienced beeks make mistakes. Mind your valve
Yes! I will never be able to not double and triple check a valve like this now haha
@@kamonreynolds ..and quadruple, quintuple... and then going back to check the video footage later. Have a nightmare about it that night. Wake up trying to remember which was real and which was the dream and feel a compulsion to go out and check... remembering *that one time you almost went out one more time in the middle of the night but didn't...* Hahaha
As a brand new beekeeper, who had an evening with the bees that... uh... didn't go the way I planned... earlier this week, it's encouraging to see experienced beekeepers who have the humility to share their mistakes. And I love seeing how involved your family is too. That's something I'm really hoping (and already trying) to be able to do with my wife and kids as well.
So thanks! I am pretty sure this is the first video of yours I've watched Kamon, but you earned my subscription! 😀
You have a great clean-up crew!!
Daddy's boo-boo merited an
ice cream party 🥳
Great to see your family growing up! 😍
Count your blessings that you had such good help and you didn't have a floor drain.
Haha wow yeah a floor drain would have been an unholy nightmare!
Thanks for keeping it real man.
GREAT VIDEO KAMON , LOVE THE FAMILY HELPING OUT , THEY WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER WHEN DADDY MADE THE MESS WITH ALL THAT WAX.
I love this video...Kamon owns his mistake on video and makes great memories with his family! We get to watch as character is revealed and produced all at the same time. Awesome.
Great video. Thank You for showing that not always everything goes as planned in beekeepers life. We have new beekeepers in our beekeeping association who had few set backs in 1st year and they want to give it all up. This video will show them that everyone even pros make mistakes.
LOVED this video. Need more with the kids.
look at the bright side you got your dirt floor cleaned and your kids off of their favorite electronic device
“A person who makes few mistakes makes little progress.” What an incredibly edited video!! Beekeepers don't quit. Success is always earned in one form or another. Excellent work reclaiming all that effort! Thanks so much for sharing!! 🐝✌
I love that saying. Take care Tim!
Lmao!! What a mess!!!! Im like you! If I fu I still tell on my self😉It's less painful. At least somebody can laugh!!
You need to really treasure your time with those kids at that age. It looks like you and Laurel have done a great job as parents. Just stand by though, the most interesting years are yet to come. :)
Family time is priceless!
Thank you very much for sharing!
Aaaaaah. I did that once while recycling red clay for pottery. My "strainer" fell and spilled about 5 gallons in the gravel. Good news, I wanted to reclaim it. Bad news, I HAD to, because my dad was very mad about the red clay making the gravel look like a crime scene 🤣
Lol that is funny but not funny. Lots of work!
Nice save!
My kids loved it! Glad someone did!
I just had a bad day thanks for sheering me up
Sorry about your bad day Benjamin! Hang in there!
Jimmy saying he feels like a slave is something I know a little Kamon would have said too! That was great!!! 😂
Little stinker!
You can get mold release from candle making supply companies. This will help get the wax out of the molds with less loss.
Great looking kids Kamon.
Good Memorial day.
You can sell that at the HLC in January as a genuine Kamon original. Craig Fr. VA
Hey! You made the best of it with the kids!! Loved their expressions on having to clean it up!
Turned into a fun time with the kids!
Good children
Kamon that’s some good helper’s you got. Enjoy your videos thanks for Sharing
Your kids are so cute! Your little boy reminds me of mine, he’s 5. Sorry you had to deal with that mess.
Lots of vitamin B12 in that wax, I'll tell ya 😉. Gonna have very mental sane products & bees 😂.
Kudos to the kids for hard work 👏👍. And priceless parenting moments for their parents. A slight failure (fortunately easily reversible), made to the great memories and yeah, them ice cream 🍨!!
Keep it up Kamon, doing great job !! 💪😉
Awesome! A good dad builds work ethic in his children. Well done my friend.
Thanks trying too!
Man what great helpers!!! Great stuff Kamon. Sometimes the crazy things that happen make the best videos.
Haha well I don't need any more of these videos for a while!
I had my pee trap full of wax when I did the same thing (smaller scale) in my bee room sink. Trap saved the whole line from being filled with wax.
I have learned hard lessons and 1 is don't do stuff when you are tired. Glad you could turn around a disaster into success.
One of the benefits of living in TN, no child labour laws 😉
I liked the video as it shows that not all things go to plan.... that's beekeeping to a T. "The plan is going to change" & "I should've done this and that"
It also shows that when things go bad you can fix it.. keep the videos coming
Your right Cambo and thanks for commenting!
Fun Fact. Kamon is a Hot Mess.
Great attitude, awesome toe see the kitties helping
Very impressive teamwork! Great job everyone 👍
Thanks Niki :-)
Great job. Love seeing the family work together to solve the problem.
Thats why I took the wax melter out of the kitchen, true
You're allowed to have it in the kitchen in the first place? That's an accomplishment in itself. I can't even pour candles in the kitchen. To the garage I go
great job for kids
Good job on the part of the whole team
I bet that valve never gets left open again.
