My name is Matthew and I live in a van. I lost my job due to "cut backs" from the pandemic of 2020 and decided to seriously restructure my life. I am also a single dad who needed to find a solution that would allow me to remain in my daughter's life and plan for her future. After tons of research into #vanlife, I knew it was for me.
From March 2021 until October 2021 I spent my days building out my Chevrolet Express 2500, which came to be known as "Lucky" and as of October 18, 2021 I have been living in Lucky full time.
The build was done with almost no experience on my end and I used the one incredible tool I had at my disposal - the internet - to learn what I needed to build Lucky into a very comfortable tiny home.
I have always had a bit of a passion for being in front of the camera and really enjoy capturing the world around us. This really played into how I was feeling after almost a year of working from home when I "commuted" from the bedroom to the couch. I was starting to feel extremely unhealthy, unmotivated and despondent. I HATED that, and that's not a word I like to throw around. This new lifestyle gives me opportunities I just didn't have before and I am so excited to be able to share it all with you.
I truly believe we all have the capabilities to turn our lives around, should we choose to do so - and if I can inspire you to shoot for something better then I have done a decent job and that will keep me going.
There is more to life than the consume, consume, spend, spend lifestyle I feel we have all been conditioned to follow and I just want to do the best I can for myself first and foremost. Our time is limited and I do not want to waste another second on a lifestyle that doesn't bring me joy!

Im repeating the last comment. I dont think it's weird at all that you do things as a family. It's a beautiful thing, and a gift to your daughter more precious and valuable then anything you can buy in that mall.
Matthew, I have been at my ex-wife and her husband's house the last 6 Thanksgivings and Christmases. It makes it so much easier on kids and grandkids when they don't have to worry about celebrating several times in different homes. Stay civil with her and it will make things so much easier on everyone.
You and your ex taking your little princess to have her photo with Santa isn't weird it's amazingly mature and loving towards your daughter, I commend you both for maintaining that stance!💖 I just love me a crispy crunchy taco shell there's nothing like it, the pockets wouldn't do it for me unfortunately!😋 I'm loving the winter episodes, they're so much fun and I love the ambience, keep up the great work Matthew, you're a creative 🌟!💖
My husband and I just watched your show. I like the taco shell idea that you had on this episode, but we would have one suggestion for you. We suggest that you mix all your ingredients together and then put it into the shell. Easy Peezy lemon squeezy! Drooling in Minnesota 😋 And great laughs this episode. Thanks!

That is a good idea, more efficient. Also, I would stand the pocket in a glass so you would have both hands free. Just a thought. Love your videos. Any suggestions I make are never, ever meant as criticisms. 😇

Not weird. My now grown daughter who has her own children has thanked me numerous times for the relationship I maintained with her dad despite our divorce.

It's not weird to be sociable with the mother of your child, it is healthier for your daughters development to see her parents getting along even if they can't be under the same roof. Suggestion: for taco delivery. ... aluminum foil. ... keeps it warm and "safe " , just wouldn't be as entertaining to watch .😊❄❄❄❄🐾🐾❤🍁👍
It's not weird at all to do things with your ex and kiddo. I did that with my kiddos (3 adults now lol). It was about them not us. Yes it could be weird feeling at times but I just kept everything honest and up front (not always appreciated by him lol). My daughters and 8 yr old granddaughter can eat tacos anytime 💕 Love your videos always! Peace love and light always from Kansas ✌️❤️☀️🌻
Still friends with my 1st hubby 50 years after divorce. We were both just young and dumb back then.
I've tried those Taco pockets. They're a little small, but that just means I can eat 3-4 at a time. LOL! The trick is to put a little cheese at the bottom, then a little sauce, then the meat and ect. This way the cheese caps any leakage, the sauce coats the cheese, and the hot meat melts the cheese. Now, you're not left with dry, plain tortilla butt at the last bite. LOL! Awesome video! Living in Winterpeg, I learned that when things break on a vehicle, it most likely will on the first good freeze, or a little farther into winter. Love the cats. Love the voices.

Matt, I think doing mommy-daddy Christmas and other holiday things together with your daughter even though you two are not “together” is very very good for your daughter. You are teaching her about families. There are all kinds of family styles in the world now. You are doing a magnificent job as a daddy!
Stella was so cute on the dash! And those tacos were a hoot! I bet they tasted good though!
Take your lettuce and put your meat, cheese and whatever toppings, roll up and slide it in the wrap. Less mess and all your flavours are there in each bite!. I love those wraps!!

Hi new subscriber here. I’m based in Calgary also. It is nice to see someone realistically deal with van life in our crazy winters. Van life is my retirement dream but I would be spending winters in Arizona…lol

The Lambchop song (the song that never ends) was my go-to song when I was rocking my babies in the middle of the night... because it required no thought and you just kept repeating it. LOL
Also, both you and mom doing Santa photos is not weird, it's admirable. My brother-in-law and his ex co-parented similarly when his kids were young, and his current fiancee is similar with her daughter's dad. They all take the kids trick or treating together, and stuff like that. Good for you guys!

I have a brother that is 2 - 1/2 years older. We sang it harmony ( if that’s what you call it) when we were on camping trips to entertain younger kids who were giving their parents a hard time about getting the sand & surf off in a not always so private setting. Our cousins would disown us & we were free to be Gorks. Not a bad deal. The kids Would cooperate & laugh at our voices parents back then probably considered us a bit different I mean it was all flower power. It brings back memories. But it still makes me older than dirt. Thank you

I think it’s great you do things as a family. I have been divorced for many many years and we still gather for Christmas and birthdays etc. I have my partner, he has his, works great!

I agree with my fellow Minnesotan. Mix everything together and stuff the shell.👍🏻😁 However, if you want to be putzy...put shell on the side then layer; lettuce, meat, cheese sour cream, and use sauce to dip it in. Or mix sauce with meat and use sour cream as dipping sauce. 😁

Your side window issue with your reflectix covers falling down…did that for like a year. Solution. Plastic cutlery knifes. Easy, free, just slide it in. Cheaper/thinner the better. You’re welcome.

❤ also when using pocket tacos…. Grabbing empty coffee mug to put your pocket in to hold it while you’re stuffing it and then while you need to take a drink, use it as a taco holder.😁😁😁

Hi John, I agree with you and Matthew! The older vehicles are fixable, more dependable and a lot of the work, you can do yourself. I've had my '92 S-10 4x4, 4.3 6cyl.for over 22 years, had 47,000 miles when I bought it, has 300,000 plus today. I've had to do little to it, an alternator, a fuel pump, a distributor and of course your keep up maintenance, bushings, barring, tie rods...all I can do myself but thankful for visiting cousins and neighbors!! Lol! I live in the south, where working on vehicles is a social event!😄😂 Welcome to the community and have a great weekend!
Had to give up my chevy express , old carpet installer here . The knees w ere giving up . But I got myself a 2013 Ford transit connect and I'm starting to upolster it now . Had many groovy vans over the years . Love your channel ❤️

Here’s a taco making tip for you…… when using the “pockets “ for your tacos…. When you put the lettuce in add a little hot sauce to it or your taco sauce on the lettuce this way when you get down to the end, you got a little flavor on the rabbit food also may want to put a little cheese and lettuce together and then put the sauce on it this way guess I’m better at the end.😊👍🏻👍🏻🌮🌮

Old el paso has cup style thingies here, I think those are easier 🙂 Now you have sour cream, cheese and meat one after the other, with the cup thingies you can have all in one bite.

I stay at the holiday Inn right above the Walmart by the ikea.
Neat to see places you recognize on youtube. Been real cold lately syay safe and warm.
Just a suggestion but you might want to hold it sideways and layer each item in with a spoon or thin spatula....😉 or mix all together first like a salad & then slide the mixture into the pocket 👌

Large trucks cover part (or all) of their radiator in extreme cold to maintain proper water temps. Try a pizza box and see.

GM trucks with the tried and true 6.0 L V8 gas guzzler, is a fantastic engine except the fan belts which OEM wear out & ppl change their batteries & alternator for nothin but tightening 3 bolts.
Gezz here on Van-isle we had a blizzard yesterday with over a foot of snow at 37 feet above sea level & it's going to melt by Monday 😀😂Next time fill taco's while in a cup.

Matt, there is no lettuce rule. Leave it off and garnish with some cilantro if you need to convince yourself you are eating your greens.
