      Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but I love Katie's creativity. I am just grateful that she decided to share her gift with the world. We are all unique, so just add your own personal spin when refurbishing your own piece. Little comments, no matter how innocuous they may initially appear, can add up (particularly for someone in the eye of the public). We have to remain cognizant of this reality and spread positivity whenever possible.

    I used Bondo today for the first time, after watching you use it here, and I LOVE that stuff!!! I tried to patch areas of veneer that had chipped away on my Mom's desk. It worked in most areas except for the top surface. I ended up having to remove two layers of veneer which left raw, pitted wood. So ... I used Bondo again to smooth out the surface. Worked like a charm! Yay!

    I died 10 times when after you taped off you didnt take the time to take the doors off and remove the hinges. Which made the painting where the doors and cabinet meet a sloppy mess & unfinished bc your brush couldn't get in there. And to keep the sleek design those hidges couldve been taped off and sprayed where white was needed. And I dont know what was going on with the inside. Some dividers had white and wood color randomly everywhere. It couldve been covered with newspaper and left as it's original wear and tear so you have the new sleek on the outside but open it up and see this piece has lived a life. Dont get me wrong you had me with the design, loved your vision. But the way you chose to cut corners just lost me. It would've added 30 mins tops to just take off the doors and remove hinges. Legs too. I was sad to see you hammering away at them and using your hand as a solid table (it wasnt 🤦‍♀️) I could only think of how much stress and stripping you was doing to the wood from the nails that attach them to cabinet. I literally thought one more swing and that leg is going to go flying. If I had given you that piece to redo for me and I seen this video not that I would need it bc I would see the paint job but the legs I would not have known about. Stuff like that could cost you dollars. Gosh i feel like I'm being an ass to you but i also liked the few that I've seen of yours and know you can do better. I dont wanna lie and say you did this so well and you continue to cut corners. Do that to things you want to keep in your home bc you maybe ok with it. But if your putting that out to sale people dont want to buy half ass and that's just real talk. I know you want to be able to stand proudly by your work, like anyone would. Everything is a learning process. And even the oldest and best cobbler never shuts his mind off from learning every day about cobbling. The day you shut your mind off is where your work will stay. I want you to do well with this and that's why I'm telling you all this. You give the run down with everything, keep the video at a great time, & your visions are awesome. Please dont be mad at me and my constructive criticism but if you are I'm sorry hopefully you won't be mad at this stranger for long. I'm still gonna keep watching you anyways. YOU GOT THIS 💚

    • @salvagedbykscott
      @salvagedbykscott  4 роки тому

      If you had seen the cabinet in real life you would know why I didn’t choose to remove the hinges. It was a homemade job made of scrap wall panelling and the hinge screws were right the front of the wood. Removing them would have destroyed the doors. My brush got in there just fine and I was able to paint the hinges and keep a smooth clean line. The dividers were all removed from the piece painted white separately and replaced. Tapping the set nails back into the original holes with a few light taps of a hammer whilst holding the leg for support is hardly going to snap them off. I do appreciate constructive criticism and am always willing to learn new things but please also consider that there is more than 1 way to do things and the hardest way isn’t always the best way.

    Nice flip, however I’m wondering why you painted the door hinges rather than removing it? This is the only part of the flip that I did not care for.

    • @salvagedbykscott
      @salvagedbykscott  3 роки тому +1

      A few reasons. The first is that this was a homemade piece and the screws for the hinges were poked through the front of the doors and ground off. If I’d removed them they would have chewed up the wood. The second reason is that I wanted a completely solid white design on the top half. The original colour of the hinges would not have looked right.
      I’ve removed plenty of hardware and spray painted it a different colour and no one ever comments, but brushing paint on it seems to drive people mad. It does not interfere with the function and there’s no reason not to paint over if you want to. Thanks for watching!

    i don't like what you did on the inside. it looks as if you forgot or got tired of the project and didn't finish it. i don't like painted hardware, not even in this instance. you have great ideas, but you are a bit messy and don't pay attention to the small details that can really make or break a piece.

      The next time you purchase a white or black hinge at the hardware store, remember...that is painted! I think that by taking the time to finish the inside dividers and carry the design to the insides of the doors shows that I do care and didn’t get bored of the project.
      Thank you so much for watching so many videos last night. I appreciate that. I don’t appreciate waking up to 5 or 6 negative comments from the same person nit picking my passion and creativity. I hope you can change your perspective and try to see some beauty in this flawed world today. Cheers!

      @@salvagedbykscott I do see beauty in this flawed worlds of ours. I do think you are creative. I very much enjoyed watching your videos and that is why I hit the SUBSCRIBE button and I watched so many of your videos. You said in one of your videos to be honest with our comments. I was being honest, did not mean to sound negative and nit picky. Keep on doing what you do.

    Curious on why or when do you hand paint instead of using the sprayer.

    • @salvagedbykscott

      It depends on the weather, what my husband is doing in the garage, which paint I’m using, if I have masking plastic, how much time I have and my mood 😂 no real rhyme or reason, just whatever seems easiest in the moment 🤪

    How do you decide to paint hinges or not paint hinges the same color

    • @salvagedbykscott
      @salvagedbykscott  3 роки тому

      I would usually take them off but I’m this case I wanted them to blend in with the white design.

    Why didn't you take doors off during your transformation?

    • @salvagedbykscott
      @salvagedbykscott  4 роки тому

      I chose to keep the doors on because this was a homemade piece and the screws that were used to attach the hinges went right through the front of the doors. If I had removed them they would have destroyed the front surface of the doors. Also, I didn’t need to remove them to complete my design.

    So is every piece real wood? Can you do the same with like and 80s dreaser set that is like laminate on top ?

    • @salvagedbykscott
      @salvagedbykscott  3 роки тому +1

      Most furniture built in the last 100 years is some sort of veneer or laminate over plywood or particle board. You can’t sand and stain laminate (stick to paint for that) but if you’re careful you can refinish wood veneer.
