Removing the view count from the home page _could_ have a positive impact for smaller content creators, as people tend to assume that videos with low view counts are automatically bad
No they CANNOT. My grandad has recently passed away. He had a UA-cam channel and the dates are very important to me. Upload dates in general are interesting to me
if nobody is going to say it then I will... PEOPLE WHO COPY OTHERS VIDEOS WILL NEVER BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE BECAUSE WE WONT KNOW THE DATE IT WAS UPLOADED!!!!
think about it: democratic countries enjoy the right to vote for their leaders (sadly I'm not in such country) I think such privileges should also be online. we should be able to vote for features youtube adds or changes
As you said. The date IS important! Especially to know the context of the videos, such as if they are just April Fools videos. This is APALLING that UA-cam plans on removing BASIC features! I am fed up with not seeing the dislikes already, but THIS is taking things TOO FAR! I DON'T want UA-cam to be like Crunchyroll (Crunchyroll is infamous for removing basic features, especially the comments section).
It's worth mentioning that UA-cam brought back the "Sort channel's vids by oldest" button. That was a good update 😌 They never bring features back once they're cut, so that button comeback was astonishing.
UA-cam already stated themselves that this is false. They are not rolling out this update, and it’s linked to people having adblockers on. This video is clickbait.
Removing the upload date would be devastating for news videos, for example people would redirect to an older news and try to trick people that it is recent.
They are already doing that. Some people are getting false strikes and videos removed randomly, with UA-cam doing absolutely nothing when confronted about this!
hosting videos is expensive as hell unfortunately. kinda hope someone with some guts will find a way to stream videos in a way that may be less convenient to the user than it is to watch videos on youtube, but allows them to run the site without immediately going bankrupt. if everything else goes well, like keeping likes and dislikes, getting rid of intrusive ads, age-gating comment sections WITHOUT completely removing comments for adult users, and getting rid of other bullshit youtube is notorious for, then hopefully they'd gain enough of an audience with enough monetary support that they can get undo whatever video streaming compromises they made in the beginning. though honestly, maybe thats just a pipe dream. i dont know how much of youtube can be meaningfully optimized in the sense of actually running it, since apparently youtube doesnt actually make a profit for google. if it were possible to make youtube profitable, why wouldn't they have done it already?
Okay, I can tolerate not seeing the dislike count. I can judge if a video is good or not on my own. The magenta thing is weird, but that has no major effect, so I can accept that, too. But I swear to God, if you remove the view counts and dates, there WILL be someone who kickstarts a project to make a new, identical platform for people to upload on, and I WILL be one of the first people to jump ship.
Nothing will happen, let's not kid ourselves. No one can compete with Google. They could make premium a requirement to even watch videos and no one would do anything.
Yo, I think another thing worth looking into is something I noticed for literally like an hour before it went back to normal. UA-cam is also experimenting with making thumbnails smaller and to the left of the video title. Maybe to see what happens when users can't entirely see what's in a thumbnail and have to pick a video based on the name? At first I thought my app was bugging out, but I had closed the app, closed it from settings, and restarted my phone. It was legitimately the format of the app for like an hour or two within the last week.
And then afterwards what are they gonna do? Remove the ability to comment as a non-premium user? This is getting seriously scary and I really hope someone makes a copy of UA-cam that don't push out the worst and most destructive updates possibles.
Honestly, at this point, it just feels like youtube is slowly removing their identity, at one point this platform is just gonna be a black screen with some audio.
In the future, UA-cam will have no channels, no thumbnails, no comments, no likes. Just a list of video titles that you click on to watch. Also, mandatory unskippable 5 minute ad before videos.
Bold of you to assume they’d keep the audio. Jokes aside, they’ll never become a black screen… because of ads. They might force creators to only use black screens though.
It's not about identity. It's not about culture. Once the market is inevitably consumed, denying consumers information and choice will always generate more capital. So that is what private capital will do. Period. That's all.
So like- with the removing creation dates thing- we have art stealers and yadayada and with youtube doing all this extra shit when nobody asked for it is crazy
Ok I wasn't too upset when youtube changed the color to magenta. I get it, you wanna change stuff, and I don't mind it. Personally I think the progress bar gradient is nice. But removing views and upload date? No. Absolutely not. I want to see the upload date and view count, and if I can't have that I'll just get a better adblocker and you can find your money somewhere else youtube. EDIT 11/2/2024 12:13PM Okay I've been reminded about how much youtube costs and how detrimental it would be to the community and people that depend on it for a job if youtube shut down.
No, please don't. That will only make it worse. UA-cam is already a huge loss for Google. What will happen if it shuts down? What about all the videos. UA-cam is still shit

@@lazychromebox7678 there are plenty of people who click on videos with low view counts, they need to fix the damn algorithm instead of taking away literally all the features we like about this website lol
That's would they would do if what they say WAS actually their goal. But this is just to make people watch more of the age-old videos the algorithm suggests to people, rather than improving the algorithm. UA-cam doesn't care what you watch, just that you watch it.

I can see how removing the view count can help small creators, as a lot of people will choose not to click on a video because of its view count, but there are way more negatives than positives. And getting rid of the upload date is just unnecessary. They need to stop removing things and start adding things. Main thing being the dislike button back since that was just so unnecessary.
i never actually care to look at the view so that doesnt bother me much but nooooooo the upload date this might be the end of youtube if they actually remove it
It's actually worse to see only support Cause then you literally just have an infinite up The dislike shows how big the bad part of the video is and you can (not) compare the like to dis with the video above and below the one that had a cool thumbnail to see if there's something that is generally considered better
As a creator I kinda hope they take away the view count on the homepage BUT only on the homepage because a lot of times people literally won’t watch your vids cus like “shoot this dude only has 300 views on this he’s low quality moving on”
@@HA3APKO I agree, removing it on the home page would help some smaller creators that are good actually make their way up easier, but completely removing view counts is dumb, and removing the time of release does absolutely nothing for anyone involved, the only potential is they make a little bit of extra money for all of 5 minutes until the platform goes up in flames and people jump ship to something that doesn’t try and push old content unnecessarily that can cause problems for everyone involved to be confused for new content like I’m back type videos or things like disease updates that are outdated but could still cause panic if shown as if brand new.
When they stop saying the unfathomably stupid adage "less is more" and realize they're literally opposites! Which is never gonna happen, sadly... 🤦 But anyway, less is never more. Less might be _better,_ but not when it cimes to having features. More features will always be better than less features. How all these giant tech companies forgot about that is beyond me!

Don't forget that a while ago they temporarily removed the option to watch older videos from a channel. It went almost unnoticed, but it was very annoying for me.
I just noticed in the last few days that shorts no longer have a way to comment on them. Literally making every aspect of their site worse for no benefit. Also, some videos have been stuttering every few seconds, and sometimes the play button doesn't work after pausing. I don't know if it's an issue with the app or what, but it's absolutely unacceptable. I guess they decided that since they're finally turning a profit, now's the perfect time to fuck everything up instead of leaving it alone.

The view count I don't really care, but is nice to know how many people have seen your video. Removing the dislike button was a huge mistake that many people are still upset over, but the upload date? That is such an absurd, and blatantly dumb idea that would heavily damage UA-cam's credibility for each video. You'd never know what content is legit and what content is stolen or re-uploaded, which happens all the time to big-time creators. I don't even know if i see myself continuing to use this platform after this happens. This is really out of hand
Programming monkeys will definitely do that. We literally have whole ass UA-cam alternative that has dislikes in it, sponsor block, and skip to highlights. Something as getting the views and dates back would be a piece of cake
@@pisaschitt787 Not really: The dislike extension manages to calculate an estimate BASED on views and likes. Now views = No dislikes accuracy. YT is speedrunning its failure
pretty sure they mean just on the homepage, since i only heard “homepage” “on the homepage” “homepage experience” in the video and in peoples statements; so the views will still be able to see when you actually click on the videos and when you view them on your ‘edit videos’ page, pay attention
Removing the view count is not gonna help. Small creators will never know if there getting any views and will be getting there hopes up constantly (as a small creator). Removing the date is 10x worse. It will be impossible to understand and content without knowing the date. I posted a video November 1st to make better context of a video I made, but there would be no point if we remove the date. This can also lead to a lot more scams since no one can tell who watches it, who doesn’t like it (if it’s real or not) and when this was made.

I can't even disable scammy ad that pops up every time in my vid, and even can't report this ad because a bug, that's don't let me (I think the do this on purpose)
I had a feeling this was clickbait when I saw the thumbnail that said it wasn't. I will admit though, it is legitimately worrying that this has a chance of happening. It is weird that someone responded with "DO NOT DO THIS PLEASE." Is that a warning to other users to not report their issues? Or a plea to UA-cam to not take away this stuff?
UA-cam seem to forget that their platform is also used as a source of information. Removing dates from their platform will cause a ton of confusion and problems.

hosting videos is expensive as hell unfortunately. kinda hope someone with some guts will find a way to stream videos in a way that may be less convenient to the user than it is to watch videos on youtube, but allows them to run the site without immediately going bankrupt. if everything else goes well, like keeping likes and dislikes, getting rid of intrusive ads, age-gating comment sections WITHOUT completely removing comments for adult users, and getting rid of other bullshit youtube is notorious for, then hopefully they'd gain enough of an audience with enough monetary support that they can get undo whatever video streaming compromises they made in the beginning.
though honestly, maybe thats just a pipe dream. i dont know how much of youtube can be meaningfully optimized in the sense of actually running it, since apparently youtube doesnt actually make a profit for google. if it were possible to make youtube profitable, why wouldn't they have done it already?
There's the Russian site VK, but it's quality varies.
Okay, I can tolerate not seeing the dislike count. I can judge if a video is good or not on my own. The magenta thing is weird, but that has no major effect, so I can accept that, too.

You meant thumbnails right
They will remove videos next
They will then remove the titles and the search bar so you have to spend ages clicking on random videos hoping its the one you wanted to watch
I can see how removing the view count can help small creators, as a lot of people will choose not to click on a video because of its view count, but there are way more negatives than positives. And getting rid of the upload date is just unnecessary. They need to stop removing things and start adding things. Main thing being the dislike button back since that was just so unnecessary.
i never actually care to look at the view so that doesnt bother me much but nooooooo the upload date this might be the end of youtube if they actually remove it
It's actually worse to see only support

@@HA3APKO I agree, removing it on the home page would help some smaller creators that are good actually make their way up easier, but completely removing view counts is dumb, and removing the time of release does absolutely nothing for anyone involved, the only potential is they make a little bit of extra money for all of 5 minutes until the platform goes up in flames and people jump ship to something that doesn’t try and push old content unnecessarily that can cause problems for everyone involved to be confused for new content like I’m back type videos or things like disease updates that are outdated but could still cause panic if shown as if brand new.

Not to mention it’ll completely throw off people who copy other videos. The date is one of the most important, if not THE important thing that people need to find copycats. This is only doing more harm than good.
Just gonna let you know, they’re not removing them from the description, just on the home page, that way people aren’t discouraged from clicking on a video with low views, they said literally nothing about removing them entirely
UA-cam is gonna turn into UA-cam Kids bro.... No views, no upload date, not even likes or dislikes...
Oh god, I agree so much with you. Why does UA-cam literally become a platform for kids, like you can't upload any comment or say anything that can hurt kids mentality.
2:00 CALLING LUNCHLY SH*T IS SO CREATIVE LMFAOOO
I love that subtle joke
Isn't it like most uncreative joke? My 5 year old nephew does it too lmao
@@level1865 🤓👆
your 5 year old brother is smart @@level1865
Accurate too.
I genuinely don't understand why big corps like to make things worse and not cater to what the market demands... Like if this is an act to help smaller creators... maybe implement a better way than remove vital information???
Wonder how old UA-cam would survive in this new time
Very well, it seems.
The old UA-cam is practically dead since barely it's being recommended, this is a new UA-cam now
@@caringheart34 what old UA-cam?
Old UA-cam? What do you mean? Genuine question.
Wouldn't survive at all. It was nigh uncensored compared to today, which would make it extremely unattractive for investors.
Google kept ruining their browser, so they also had to ruin UA-cam. 😭
This will just straight up kill the site
Many vids with few views have a trash production quality and/or content, its a quick quality indicator
Next time they're gonna remove the feedback button so that you can't suggest that they revert any feature.
It already basically does nothing, but if they get rid of it then how else can I scream at them to be better?
@1:45 i completely agree with this but in the description it should tell you the views if you scroll to the bottom
No I think it's really illogical
I don't think hiding the views and the dates is the right option to help small channels.
average company try not to ruin everything challenge (IMPOSSIBLE)
