This is a rare gem as Eddie was at the Apex of a very successful solo career. For awhile, Eddie Kendrick's was Motown's most successful make solo artist, and this concert shows why! The women loved Eddie,. I remember my mom and auntie's going crazy over the Temptations, but, Eddie was always their favorite. Damon Harris did a great job when Eddie left in 1971, but this concert shows that there was only one Eddie James Kendricks! Thank GOD for posting this, as music historian, and regular lover of Black Music, I'll Treasure this!
@@jonathanclary3992 I am a huge Eddie Kendricks fan, along with the Classic Temptations. Eddie is my number one tenor, who influenced a generation of imitators. His style was originall, soulful, and dynamic. I prefer Eddie's smooth confident vocals, out of all the Temptations tenors, but to say that Damon Harris was not as good as Eddie is to diminish Damon's equally beautiful voice and talent. Damon's vocal style was heavily influenced by Eddie, but Damon was a fantastic singer as well. Listen to his vocals on "Havenly", and "Love Woke Me Up This Morning". Maybe what you mean to say is that you prefer Eddie's voice to Damon's, but it's like comparing apples to oranges. All of the Temptations first tenors were great, but Eddie set the standard, and created that group chemistry. Check it Out! Ciao!!!

I was in high school late 60s when I discovered their music, and then working in the city during the 70s, going out for a “few” drinks after work and gittin’ it ON on the dance floor! Looking back while watching this, I’m saddened that we suburban white girls only ever heard the music on our vinyl but never saw them beyond the album covers. It’s good to see a few white arms reaching up from the audience! What else is good to see: backup singers with natural bodies, no implants. Those were the days, before factory food did us in. Look how thin everybody is, just like we were in high school!
Many, many, MANY urban, suburban, rural white girls made their way to Temptations and Eddie Kendricks concerts. Many of them got to know those men personally. Believe that!
@@Ms.L2803 Even outside of the U.S. I don't remember if it was the Bahamas or Jamaica, but Otis said in his book that there were women lined up outside their hotel after the shows, and they would be let in (sometimes more than one at a time) to 'get to know them personally.' Ha. i also find it interesting in the ‘75 show he did more Temptations material than his solo stuff.
well during this the temps had started to fall off a little and a lot of people still missed Eddie and David in the group and even thou his solo hits were good it was his recordings with the temps that was foundation of his success
You have excellent taste for one of your age. This is my second time seeing video footage of Eddie's solo career on UA-cam. The first video was one of a performance on Soul Train. Fortunately, I had the opportunity to see him perform live several times during 1974-1976, and those performances were exceptional even though I wasn't able to hear him sing "Can't Help What I AM" (the B side to one of his hits) which is one of my favorite songs. Eddie was charismatic; to be in his presence as he sang a love song was simply magic.
I had to laugh when I read that when Eddie left The Temptations his women fans were angrily calling Motown asking what they did to him to make him leave. Otis always said that Eddie was the most popular Temptation with the ladies (I think he was a little jealous).
Otis was a lot jealous. the irony is Otis wanted to be in a Motown singing group sooooo bad; but never thought he would be the runt. I believe that is why he was so cut throat.
@@janetblair2016 There were probably a thousand singers in Detroit at that time who could sing better than Otis. He couldn't dance either. Always messing up the routines. He knew the only way he could stay in the group was to stay on Berry Gordy's good side.
