  • Today we go to Ba Na Hills (Bà Nà Hills SunWorld ) and we check out the famous Golden Bridge (Công Ty Tnhh) in Vietnam.
    Is it worth the hype? is it worth a visit? is it worth the money?
    We will discover it together in this video.
    As part of Sun World Amusement Park Group and over 20 km away from Danang downtown, Sun World ba Na Hills is the most significant resort and recreational complex of Vietnam.
    The Ba Na Cable Car, opened on 29 March 2013, holds the world record for longest non-stop single track cable car at 5,801 metres (19,032 ft) in length. It's latest tourist attraction is the Golden Bridge (Cầu Vàng).
    At the height of 1,487 m from the sea level, Sun World Ba Na Hills is coined the “heaven on earth” owing to its spectacular climate and otherworldly natural landscape.
    Sit back, relax and enjoy the video. :)
    P.S. let me know in the comments below if you have ever been to Ba Na Hills.
    Thanks for watching and I wish you a beautiful day.

    I am a Canadian school teacher, and I used to live in Da Nang. If you are taking a vacation, Vietnam is probably the best value, as you have the city of Da Nang, Ba Na Hills, and Hoi An quite close together. You can rent a driver for the day, set up by you hotel, or better yet, rent a motorcycle. The people are super friendly, the food is fantastic, and the weather cannot be beat, even during the rainy season. It is highly recommended.

    Thank you for the lovely video!
    In 1997, our government invested in Bà Nà Hills and turned it into an eco park, but nobody came. We knew this place had enormous potential for tourism and economic development, and it shouldn’t be abandoned. So, in 2007, Sun Group started building a theme park there, and it turned out to be a great success.
    This place will never look “real” no matter how much money and effort we put into it. If they built a Vietnamese temple in the West, it would never look real as well, because it’s not a historical site.
    There’s a theme park in Vietnam that was inspired by our own culture with all the temples, pagodas and stuff like that, but it’s not making money. We are in Vietnam, and if we want to see our architecture, we will go to Ninh Bình, Huế, or Yên Tử. Jurassic World, Disneyland and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter are built so the Westerners can experience their fantasy world. And just like people in the West, sometimes, our people want to live in a fairly tale as well. Vietnamese people like Bà Nà because it’s exotic and looks like a fairly tale to us.
    When you come to Bà Nà Hills, just know that it’s a replica Europe in Vietnam, and that expecting it to look and feel as real as in Europe is ridiculous. We should acknowledge that the copy could never replace the original. But I believe they have done everything to make the place look as real as possible. The Greek gods sculptures there were sculpted by Frilli Gallery - a legendary family in Florence, Italy. The lighting of the French Village was designed by Notre-Dame de Paris lighting designer. And I bet if we didn’t tell the Western tourists that the French wine cellar was actually the original structure built in 1923, they would also think it’s just a copy.
    Also, it’s not a place where you can get away from the crowd. This place is a tourist attraction, so it’s expected to be packed. Governments and companies spend a lot of money building and promoting those places and they expect tourists to come and contribute to the economy. A tourist attraction that isn’t crowded isn’t peaceful, it’s depressing. The only way we can get away from the crowd is to stay there a little longer so you can explore the place when everyone else has left.

      The town was originally built by the French during the colonial period for their officers R&R (rest and relaxation,) and to get away from the heat below. The town was much simpler then before it was turned into a Park. The old French wine cellar was kept closed to the original as possible.

    What I like about you & your video is that you have a good attitude and you place things in context. Instead of bringing your 'foreigner' attitude and expectation, you look at things from the local perspective. Bravo. Yes, Ba Na Hills is WAY TOO TOURISTY! The idea of the Bana Hills theme parks was based on a historical relationship between France and Vietnam, particularly the friendship between Vietnam’s Emperor Gia Long and a humble missionary from Aisne, France named Pigneau de Behaine, who passed away 1799, but had never forgot his homeland; he used to talk with the emperor about how much he missed his country. He even showed him his childhood sketches of French villages. The architecture of a town or village in Pigneau’s sketchbook was depicted in the Bana Hills French Village where starts with a square and a church to host lavish weddings as its tradition. Street scenes, restaurant interiors, quaint retail boutiques, fountains, landscape treatments, and architectural facades were depicted to represent the many different regions of France. Except the famous Golden Bridge designed by Vietnamese architects of a Vietnamese Landscape Architecture firm (under Ho Chi Minh City University of Architecture), the theme park with French village of Bana Hills was designed by an American company named Falcon's Creative Group headquartered in Orlando, Florida, USA with Kenn Hardy as a senior design director who has a long history of providing creative services for some of the world’s top theme parks including Disney, Universal, and Herschend. is this the bastardized version of history, cause christian missionaries were hardly known for being civil. They were often used for military pretext. Vietnam has a history of watering down the past to improve current relationships.

      @@fatmanslim4592 A street named after the French Jesuit Missionary Alexandre de Rhodes, has remained unchanged for over 50 years in Ho Chi Minh City to honor him as the first person to lay the foundation of the Vietnamese script. Other streets named after French doctors like Yersin and Calmet have never changed to honor their dedication to helping the Vietnamese people. Of course, violence and brutality were also part of the fabric French colonial rule in Vietnam. A Vietnamese historian said about the Vietnamese workers on the rubber plantations and in the mines, "Even a dog belonging to a colonial household cost an average of 150 piastres per year to feed," while the Vietnamese workers were paid on average 48 piastres a year for their labor. Conditions on the rubber plantations and in the mines were described like slavery. At one Michelin plantation, 12,000 workers died between 1917 and 1944. The consequences for Vietnamese peasants who tried to protest or escape were execution or imprisonment. Anti-French and anti-Catholic rebellions raged across Vietnam. More than 40,000 Catholics, 18 French missionaries and 40 Vietnamese pastors were murdered. About 9,000 churches were destroyed by angry mobs. In addition, under the colonial rule, the Vietnamese farmers were forced to grow cotton and jute instead rice, to serve the purpose of the war. The famine in 1944 resulted in about 2 million Vietnamese people died of starvation while the granaries were full of rice, which later led to formation of Democratic Republic of Vietnam under the leadership of Ho Chi Minh in August 1945, and eventually led to the fatal battle Dien Bien Phu in May 1954. The rest was history. The French doctor Yersin's tomb in Nha Trang was graced by a pagoda and rites are performed yearly in his worship even after almost 80 years when he passed away. The epitaph on his tombstone describes him as a "benefactor and humanist, venerated by the Vietnamese people". The Vietnamese are fair-minded people. If you help them, they help you. If you invade their country, they will kick you out or kill you. History of Vietnam said it all.

      @@congtangtonnuquynhnga2976 yea, i have no love for religion. Used as an excuse for war throughout history. Europeans were deceivers and imperialists, they viewed themselves as the master race and all else beneath them. @@fatmanslim4592 "i have strong doubts, unless it can be verified by multiple unbiased sources"? You don't have to believe what I said. If you have time, just go to Nha Trang, Vietnam where the Swiss-born French Alexandre Yersin's 14-foot-tall statue stands visibly on the main street along the beach to always remind the Vietnamese people of his countless medical contribution, compassion and love for Vietnam. Remember a statue of a public figure, particularly a foreigner in Vietnam is a big deal. Most of religions are not that bad teaching people how to find happiness in doing good things to others. However, many people take advantage of religions to personally benefits themselves. For example, Muslim male terrorists were told to have 7 virgins to one if they died. Many colonial countries used Bible as an ideological weapon to invade and colonize other countries. The African bishop Desmond Tutu, who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1984 said, "When the white people come, they have a Bible, we have land. We trusted them, closed our eyes to pray with the Bible in our hands. When we opened our eyes, we had the Bible and they had our land." The French colonialists brutally did the same thing in Vietnam, but they at the end failed miserably. Through its 5,000-year history, Vietnam had triumphantly defeated all 7 big and powerful Chinese dynasties (Qin, Dong Wu, Han, Song, Ming, Yuan, and Qing) and sent them all one by one back to their mainland China. Even the mighty Mongol Empire was not an exception. The unbeatable Mongol army had been bitterly defeated not once but 3 times by the Vietnamese, who eventually brought an end to the mighty Mongols' dream of conquering the entire world. Vietnam is still Vietnam today standing tall. In short, the Vietnamese are fair-minded people. If you help them, they are grateful and help you back; but if you invade their country, they will viciously defend their homeland and kick you out or kill you.

The most interesting parts were the areas with the French villas that had been shot at by the American Air Force for target practice, amazing destruction and surprising that the entire place has been transformed to what it is right now.

      @@janchxxheonczsekk6412 Yes, Vietnam has a substantial underground economy that is likely not tax compliant thus the per capita income is challenging to estimate. However official estimates on annual per capita income is around $3,560 USD per year. What do you believe is the size of the unreported annual GDP? This could move the per capita income up another 50%? Or??? %. Even at an additional 50% of underground GDP puts the average annual income to maybe $5,300 per year. Still well below its ASEAN neighbors. It's still amazing seeing crowds like that size on a daily basis spending $35 dollars per head just on tickets not to mention all the other associated expenses. Quite a chunk compared with the average daily income depending on the size of that unreported income. Tax compliance is as you mentioned quite low compared with for example Singapore which is thought to be around 97%. Anyway, yes the Vietnamese population earns more than we think but it is still impressive that this attraction draws such crowds at entry prices that could be found in much more advanced economies in similar attractions in the west where per capita income could be bigger by a factor of 10 or more. 🤔 But nice to see the Vietnam economy appears to be healthy as the annual I comes are rising rapidly. 😁

    I think to counter all that faux European-ness, they should build more nature-y things for those not interested in Disney-like or Vegas-like stuff. Maybe a REALLY nice Zen-like garden and hiking area where you can get away from the crowd. So you missed the laser light show? I heard it was SPECTACULAR! Would have been interesting to see the water park as I've not seen any vloggers use it yet and it looks nice. Or maybe you can save the water park for when you next come back to Vietnam and visit Phu Quoc.

    Hello. Gabi. The Ba N Hills was built by the Colonial French, which catered for their get aways far from homes in S.E. Asia. Some European tourists dubbed this beautiful sight as the French Alps in Vietnam. Due to the WWII, which began the ending of the French colonization, and the Vietnam 20+ years Civil War, this area was not discovered until 2004(?). So, the Ba Na Hill was not built nor mimicked by the Vietnamese just for tourism.

      Maybe originally it was built by the French, but what they're building now is definitely fake looking and more of an amusement park feel like Disney or Vegas.

    It's normal for good theme parks to be crowded with people. It's naive to think otherwise. I've been in Disneyland in California, paid a hefty price for entry ticket and found the park was packed like a can of sardines. Theme parks in Vietnam that have European features (Ba Na Hills, Phu Quoc Grand World,....) were designed with local and Asian tourists (Chinese, Korean,...) in mind and actually they like them because they can have a taste of Europe without travelling to Europe.

    • @ridewithgabi
      @ridewithgabi  2 роки тому +3

      Yes absolutely. I was not expecting it to be so busy, as we are just coming out of a pandemic and Vietnam just recently reopened its borders.

    I visited that hand bridge in 2019 not knowing that it was a theme park. I found it as boring as any disneyland park can get. It does have I guess the highest and longest air tram in the world, passing through clouds and all, but I don’t know it’s worth a visit, dough. Hoi An is something else, a great Vietnamese little town. Don’t forget to visit Can Tho in the middle of the huge Mekong delta. And then the Hanoi Hilton in Hanoi. Go see and enter the viet cong tunnels outside Ho Chi Min city. In Nam they call it the American war, and rightly so. I found Nam to be the most interesting country in SE Asia. Don’t get run over by the motorcycles; it’s 50 of them for every regular car. They even drive on the pedestrian sidewalks, careful.

Also, if I decided not to opt for the meals package, are there places @ Ba Na where one can easily buy food (takeaway) rather than sit in .. or would it be wiser to pack our own food up.... cuz I don't want to waste time sitting down in the restaurant to eat...

    doe the $36 USD includes a buffet? That's still very cheap. In Australia, Europe, America or Canada, a buffet already cost you $20-30 buffets. So this is still very cheap. The amusement park in America is already at $70-80 USD and that doesn't even cover parking which is another $20 USD

    • @ridewithgabi
      @ridewithgabi  2 роки тому

      No the 36 usd is only for the ticket. With buffet was around 1 million Vietnamese dong

    The challenge is that a lot of the pictures online of the Hands bridge are deceptive to make the bridge look like its a wonder of nature, in a quiet mountain, not the Vietnamese version of Disneyland Paris. Thank you for being transparent to help manage expectations. The cable car ride was stunning and worth every penny. For an American or European its "only $10 more than pre-Covid" but I hope the price hike doesn't make the amusement park inaccessible for locals.
