Thank you for making this video. The only thing that was confusing for me was figuring out which side the strands should go on for starting the final side. But other than that, it was easy to follow.

Thank you for making this video!! Would it be possible for you to please do a tutorial on how to do the 12(?) strand cross you show at the end of your video, at around 20:32? The design of that one just looks really cool to me, and I would love to learn how to make it... :)

The 12-Strand cross follows the same pattern as the 8-strand cross, you simply add 2 additional strands at the beginning. start with 2, then add 2 more, then add 2 more (each of them doubles so you have 3 strands on each side for a total of 12 strands). This cross uses the box-stitch not the barrel stitch, so the sides are squared off not rounded. This effect comes out when you fold the strands straight across not diagonally like my normal cross'. It's always best to learn by smaller projects and then work your way up to more complicated ones. THe whole key to this one is ADDING strands on front/back and sides, the rest of it works just like the video, but not using diagonals (just strait across).

Thanks for the quick reply! So do the clear strands in the Cross you're making at the beginning of the video still cross like that for the 12-strand Cross(or would they both be straight)? And I'm guessing that the yellow strands(and also the grey ones) I see in the 12-strand Cross are two separate yellow strands for each end, not just one yellow strand braided on either side of the orange-ish brown strands in the middle? Also, how in the world did you add in the black strands in the middle on the side of the 12-strand Cross? Hahahaha. =D

JoviGoo The 12-strand cross has no clear strands in it, they are all solid color. After about the 2nd knot with 8 strands going --> Straight across, slide 2 new strands coming out the side and front/back, work with 3 on each side just like you would with 2 on each side to make the knots. You are now making a Triple-Sailor's Crown knot. Folding 3 strands each time. and weaving in the last 3 strands.

Tom Bateman When I was talking about the clear strands, I just meant, in your video in the beginning, the Cross you were making had clear strands that formed an "X", while the blue and yellow strands in that Cross were straight up and down...So I was wondering if the 12-strand Cross would have any strands in it similar to the clear strands(two strands that make an "X") as well? By the way, thanks for explaining this stuff to me; really appreciate it. :)

Sorry, no clear strands used in the 12-strand cross. All of the strands are opaque. The top starts basic, the added strands do cross within, where they were added, but they are not clear.

What is that circle metal piece you used to hold it in place?

Just a small 1/4" lock washer. They dangle a little better from a keychain when I use them. They also make it easier to start the top.

oh, dear...I thought this was the perfect tutorial. But I get so frustrated when the techniques he is describing are somewhere off the screen. I will keep looking.

The Idea here is not to teach the basics, but to show how to build the Cross, I have no sophisicated equipment to video this with, but I may try to make it better in the future. This is a more advanced project, you won't learn basics here, but there are many video's on line to teach them.

+Dennard Garth - If you are too confused with this you may want to try some simpler lanyards first until you understand the basics. ( Box Stitch, Barrol Stitch, etc... )
