- Howard (of Big Paw Garage on UA-cam) challenged the members of the Facebook Custom Diecast Renegades & Hoodlums Group to do a post-apocalyptic build without using any aftermarket parts (including 3D parts). To only use our scraps, parts off other cars, or to scratchbuild parts. This is my attempt to do exactly that :)
Thanks for the challenge Howard! (Big Paw Garage - H Flowers)
I like your way of thinking, I haven't done any post apocalyptic builds but I see a hell of a lot of talent goes into building them. To be able to build something from scraps is badassery my friend ! Well done ! 🍻
Thank you! You’ve gotta mess around with one of these someday - they’re really fun and relaxing. The bigger the crazy s**t show the better lol. I’m excited for my next one because there’s a chunk off my upcoming Halloween build that’s perfect to stick on one of these 👍😊😂
That's really neat , great looking Gaslands truck 👍💀👍
Thank you!
Turned out epic totally awesome love the detailing😁😁
Thanks! You’ll probably like this Saturday’s video too 😊👍
Great job buddy, looks awesome. Great idea with the gun and seats 👍
Thank you! The seats were just dumb luck - I tried every other area of that VW interior and then it just “happened”.
Nice!! Glad you like the citadel paints, I love them. This came out wicked
Thanks Keith! The citadel paints are fantastic! I’ve even painted over them with the Metalcast color coat and had great results (red clear tinted color coat over black citadel was amazing). I’m going to have to give those Splash paints a try too...hopefully soon.
Also check out Scale75's Scalecolor "Inktensity" range....some of those colors, lile the Inktense Violet, and Inktense Chestnut, are outrageous. And, they spray beautifully straight from the bottle.
I’ll have to check them out! Thanks!
That is a really impressive build, she looks fine a a frog hair. It is good to see a Gaslands build done with something other than 3d printed parts.
Thank you! Doing one of these really makes you look forward to doing the next one - they’re SO much fun!
You should join the

I’ll have to check it out!
Great stuff. Very Crossout in style.
Thank you!
I had purchased some 3D printed weapons (2 sets to be exact) and was waiting until I got some small magnets, so I could make modular weapons for my main rides. When some thief stole all of my Gaslands stuff. So most of everything I do nowadays is pretty much scratch built or taken from other diecast vehicles.
Nicely done Jim.
I'm looking forward to more post apocalyptic diecast builds and then some...
NOMAD-OR-WHAT Thanks! That’s terrible that someone stole all your Gaslands stuff! Hopefully you will rebuild even better than before. I do have more Gaslands builds planned 😊👍
Great build Jim! Good use of all your spare parts and scraps!
Thanks Opa!
Great work Jim !!!
Thanks! It’s amazing what you can do with two gallons of super glue lol
Cool custom, well done!.....Bill
Thanks Bill!
That came out tough! I think Inwill have to do a Gaslands build. Thanks for sharing Jim.
Thanks Ernie! You should do one! I find them to be really fun, relaxing builds.
@@JimSilva-SilvaDiecastCustoms oh.....the juices are flowing.
Pretty cool build. Nice work Jim
Going full on scratchbuilt was a blast!
Looks great, exactly how I feel it would be built in the future, random parts that were available.
Joe Holloway Thank you!!
That looks awesome!!
Thanks!
Nice build! Really like the sub 10 min vid, kept my attention lol.
Thanks!! I really appreciate that comment because I usually also prefer the shorter videos. Unfortunately it works against me on UA-cam because so much is viewing minutes driven...so I need to really increase the number of subscribers 😊. There’s another Gaslands type truck video coming out on Nov 16th 😊
Awesome work brother love it sick looking truck.. big thumbs up.. see you :) :D
Thanks! I really enjoy doing these post apocalyptic builds and already have another one I’m planning to start next week.
@@JimSilva-SilvaDiecastCustoms awesome cant wait to check it out!!! See you them.. :) :D
Cool jim very cool sir.
Thanks Danny! That was a really fun one to piece together!
Bad ass man! Looks like the whole bed could rise up and rotate. I love it. These are one of my favorite builds. I have the same truck that imma lower and matte paint and throw wide five stars on it. Ill trade you the one you just built for some cars I have lol
Thanks Wade! It was fun tackling this from a scratchbuilt or scrapbuilt approach instead of the “usual” printed parts add-one. I think it became a more creative build as a result.
@@JimSilva-SilvaDiecastCustoms I happen to agree. I like the builds where you use what you have. I enjoy them all but the ones with 3d printed parts seems out of my means. Those things are expensive.
Wade Vallbona It’s a weird thing with the 3D parts. Buying the parts is expensive. I bought a cheap 3D pla printer that works great for my post apocalyptic builds and the parts cost a few cents each. A resin printer would produce finer results, but at a higher cost and be more work.
@@JimSilva-SilvaDiecastCustoms well i never thought that i could afford one. I never knew it was a thing to be honest. Your builds are amazing. Keep up the good work. And as soon as I start on mine Im going to post them on here
it's crazy looking but I like it.
This thing was SO much fun! When you’re building it from scraps from other builds and scratchbuilding other parts, you can go pretty wild 😂
I think that was a cool challenge and I've been doing that for a long time with my hot wheels using them all parts from different cars and that's the way I custom all my cars
It was a lot of fun! It makes me want to do it again and again.
I've been really enjoying your builds since finding your channel, lots of inspirational stuff that I can transfer to my own projects. The reason for the Citadel paint names is the Games Workshop wider universe, which has been around since the late 70s. The names are pretty odd out of context. That green is a flesh colour for orks (because everyone knows orks are green, right? and it's orks with a k not a c because they're in space... fantasy logic, it's great), for example, and the WAAAGH! bit is to do with their lore and whatnot. Please do keep up the excellent work and the imaginative builds, they're a lot of fun to watch.
Thank you SO much for your comments and explaining where those bizarre Citadel paint names come from 😊. It actually makes sense that there was more to the story
Very nice! At least those beloved VW parts were put to good use, and not just left in the bin to collect dust.
Thanks! I couldn’t drop everything from the scraps bin on the desk because they would have given away some secrets to be revealed soon (the Halloween build 😊)
pretty cool.... i am having to scratch build everything for the one i'm working on...LOL
Thanks Dan! I love the scratchbuilt work. It will be good practice for something planned for the future 😊
@@JimSilva-SilvaDiecastCustoms wait until you see that gun i made finished ;)
Although im not a builder of post Apocalyptic builds, unless its an actual vehicle from the first 3 Mel Gibson mad max movies(coming soon). But thats a cool build. Those Citidel paints have some messed up names.lol .thats why i haven't bought any because i don't know what they all mean hahaha.Fun build
Thank you! Can’t wait to see the Mad Max build. I know exactly what you mean about the citadel paints - you have to see the color before you have any idea if it’s anything close to what you want. That Waaagh! Flesh (yes, it has an exclamation point in it) being green is crazy. You should give a post apocalyptic build a try, off camera, no deadlines, just to see if it’s relaxing - I didn’t think I would like them originally, but they’re oddly relaxing and fun...nothing about them needs to be exact lol
Very cool
Thanks!
We need a video of you reacting to citadel paint names 😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 they are great
I hope that you play Gaslands and I hope thay Truck brings you some fun
I haven’t played Gaslands yet, but I have watched some videos and it looks really interesting. I love making the Gaslands style cars and will definitely be making more in the near future 😊
@@JimSilva-SilvaDiecastCustoms i look forward to it 👍
It seems that there is a downer on Beetles, every restorer seems to want to butcher one.
For me it’s a little different than that - I love Beetles and have a ton of them. That makes me want to see what else I can incorporate them into 😊. In this case, previous “chops” left me with many scraps to use.
Awesome gaslands build Jim, and great use of those scrap parts from other customs.
I'm currently putting the finishing touches to a gaslands build I have been working on, though at one point I almost threw it in the bin in anger...
I also mentioned you in my last video :)
Alvarez's Diecast Customs Thanks! I was pretty sure I saw your last video so I just checked and remembered I got a call and didn’t finish it. I was at the 17 minute mark and I just hit play now and within a few seconds, there was that damned tow hook lolol. It was a beautiful build.
Oh...I just read some of the comments on the vid and someone suggested more shine/luster? Really? Dear lord I would be thrilled to achieve that kind of shine.
@@JimSilva-SilvaDiecastCustoms thanks! I guess there's always room for improvement to some people.
I'm all for trying though in a couple of videos or so. It'll be an interesting test im sure.
Alvarez's Diecast Customs I’m anxious to see if your results are any different than mine. When I’ve tried waxing the car, I can’t say it’s made a noticeable difference. One time I tried saving a paint job with gauzy / floor polish and it did make a difference, but only because I couldn’t bring any shine to the original paint and I was curious what would happen.
@@JimSilva-SilvaDiecastCustoms Im in the same boat. I'm not sure how far it can be taken. These cars are so small that the overall paint area is very small, id be most concerned with burning holes into the paint.
However im all for trying though, I decided im going to redo my first ever build on my channel as in my opinion that had the worst paint job I have done so I'm going to see if I can do the best I can do on it.
