One of the greatest strengths of FMA:BH was for me, that it knows when to friggn end. This sounds stupid, but the idea of the journey ending for real at a specific point is a main reason, why Ed feels like a great character. Because the story gives us closure on his adventure and leaves us statisfied with what he achieved. Also his journey at large was a great way to tell a story, where he relies on his allies, experiences failure and learns valuable lessons for life from it all.
FMA just feels great because Ed is very human, despite the powers the world bestowed on him.

Great video! And I agree - especially since much of the genius of FmaB lies in the story... trying to lull us in a sense of security by casting Ed as the "typical Shonen protagonist" only to unveil his multiple distinct characteristics. Much like Luffy or Allen or Naruto, Ed (at first glance) is the "punch first, ask questions later" type of character. He's a bit cocky, has a large personality and an even louder mouth, yells a lot, and cannot deal with authority - and that's exactly what Arakawa wants us to think. Before the rug is pulled out from under us, by reminding us that Ed is a child in an adults world. Unlike Naruto or One Piece or Bleach, the world of FmaB isn't build around the concept of teenage heroes. Edward being a child in the military isn't treated as a cool feature, but a symptom of the corrupt system. Argh, I am rambling. There's just so many layers to Ed's character and all the ways he's typical and atypical, but I don't want to distract from the point I was trying to make: Great video

A very special show for sure! I like any show that goes deeper into characters, the author really shows a good understanding of the nuance of the human experience. We are all more alike than different, but the little things make you. A subtlety can be so unrelatable for some, but at the core we all start from the same place, how did we get so lost :( You need to do a video on nhk lol, probz won't get lots of views tho!

Are you certain that’s a photo of Hiromu Arakawa? There’s at least one photo of Ed’s *seiyuu* Romi Park, that is commonly mis-attributed as one of Arakawa; not unlike Eichiro Oda, she’s very private and modern footage of her tends to superimpose her Bespectacled Cow avatar over her face… Not being critical mate, just saying.
That point aside, while Al is my favourite character in most versions of FMA (notably discounting the mess of FMA2003 and how it does him dirty…), I really appreciate how Ed is characterised throughout and where his character ends up by the end).

well, i hope so. there are a couple other photos that come up that appear to be the same person without mention of Romi Park

FMAB is the best shounen and in my opinion the best anime of all times. I can see it over and over again without getting sick of it, cause is such a good anime. I know that some people prefer the old version cause is more serious and yada yada, but FMAB doesen't to be that serius and dark to be a good anime -not me a fangirl

Tell me you haven't watched Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood or 2003 without saying that you haven't watched Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood or 2003. Ed may start out cocky and mercurial, but as the story progresses, we see a character that is struggling with extreme grief and wrestling with human morality. Ed had periods where he breaks down and cries and things don't always go as planned for him.
