No lie. It smoothed out the jarring "humor" and it focused on the emotional bonds where brotherhood was trying to be loyal to the manga. Now if I can only argue that Helsing was better than Helsing ultimate for similar reasons... (Honestly, look at the original Ghost in the shell movie. It breaks from the source like crazy. And the later 00's Appleseed compared to the 80's ova. The 80's ova probably follows the manga better.)
can we all agree that "tobira no mukou e" from the 2003 anime is one of if not the best piece of music from the series? the song itself is beautiful but even more the irony and symbolic weight it carries is amazing,as the name of the song means "the other side of the gate"
i rarely see people discuss the 03 series as equal to the brotherhood series, I really liked how you encompassed all versions in your analysis instead of putting brotherhood on a pedestal. The manga has to be my favorite version, but all 3 versions should be experienced, since they compliment each other so well
Both are great for what they are 2003 for trying different things and having higher stakes than its manga counterpart and fleshing out events and characters that didn't got much attention from the manga Brotherhood on the over hand while sadly speedrunning throw its early events still is an incredible show an idealistic journey of two brothers trying to get there bodys back
all homunculus deaths were both poetic and ironic pride died willing to lower himself just to survive lust (or bloodlust according to some theories) was murdered by a womanizer (or emotionless and inpersonally according to the theory) envy was humiliated and pittied to death sloth worked and fighted to death being promised eternal rest gluttony was eaten alive wrath died in peace and satisfied killed by his men and the man he abused the most it is impressive how all deaths touch both irony and poetry
I always wondered what FMA 2003 would've been like if they hadn't gotten ahead of Arakawa and had managed to tell the whole story at that time. I liked the darker tone of FMA, but when they ran ahead of the manga and started writing their own story, the shift was very noticeable. At least it was for me. At the time, I hadn't read the manga and was unaware that it was based on a manga, but I noticed a very distict shift in the story telling at about the time of Yock Island. The story tone that had been building up to the point changed. To get the rest of the story, I had to wait for FMAB, but they took a less dark tone and the part that was already covered on 2003 was done horribly. FMAB didn't start getting better until after the boys were confronted by Izumi.
When introducing the series to an ex of mine, I drafted a watch order that had us bouncing between the two versions- mainly staying on ‘03 in the beginning, skipping filler, then sticking with FMA:B from the lab and onwards. I think it worked out fairly well and kept, what I consider, the best of both worlds 👌
ive rewatched fma and fmab countless times, I cant wrap my head around how amazing the series is. especially with fma 2003 + cos you cant find a story thats like it, its so unique, fma 2003 is probably my favorite, how emotions are portrayed, how stories of war or religion are portrayed, how everything wont go the protagonists way, and how horrible things happen, but ed always try’s to find a fixture or a way out. it makes it feel like a real life scenario or a realistic scenario even tho everything that happens in the show isn’t even possible. theres more to the story too than fmab. the ending of 2003 is something that left a pit in my stomach until i watched cos, I really like how this show touched my heart that much. the soundtrack is amazing too. I love brotherhood too because its an amazing solid story, and its more straightforward than 2003 with a great ending.
I can't believe I never noticed that the deaths of Lust, Wrath, & Pride were all symbolic of various characters overcoming their biggest flaws Great catch, keep up the great work!
Both shows are insanely different from one another. 2003 is more of a character study while brotherhood is more of a community study. 2003 displays the importance of contentment while brotherhood displays the importance of ambition. 2003 portrays life as unfair while brotherhood shows that it always is on a fundamental level. They go very different directions thematically, but they’re both phenomenal. Both are easily top 5 shonens of all time in my eyes
I really like the way you juxtapose the two shows to inform the thematic differences and characterization distinctions, and how the two shows build upon one another’s ideas when doing this.
Yo kudos to you new subber here! Loved the False prophet edit in the middle and the breakdown you have here is not only so inspiring but super educational to a fellow comic author/ artist. I also loved how you talk about the 03 series which I actually like the most
I loved watching this video. FMA was the first anime I ever watched so It will always be one of the tops on my list and this video reminded me why I loved it, also the false prophets AMV was awesome and I cant find an actual AMV of it, If anyone does let me know
Also... Another thing to note about Mustang. If I'm remembering correctly, Mustang doesn't know that Envy started the war in ishval. Or at the very least, I don't think we are ever see a scene with him learning that information. Which either means it happens off screen. Or he doesn't know. If he doesn't know, then his vengeance is over the death of a single friend. 1 person. The level of Violence he inflicts on Envy is insane when taking that into consideration, especially since Mustang intends on being the Amestrian leader. Envy definitely deserves it but it's still a really bad idea to let Mustang do it.
I love the ending of the 2003 series it is basically an embodiment of Edwards growth and also the core messages of the story besides it was foreshadowed in the beginning of every episode The Law of Equivalent Exchange being told to us yet throughout the journey it gets questioned and broken by big or small ways and the ending attacks the very core of Edward character finally bringing this question into Ed want more a series that challenges and breaks Edwards morals and beliefs attacks the very core of his character by randomly showing him the reality of the world and it's supposed to be unexpected there was only a few instances it got foreshadowed like that flashback where Ed sees inside the gate for the first time and there's flashing images of real life pictures of World War 1 but here's the thing Edward is just as confused as all of us are think about it he is a character that wants to learn about this world using rules and logic what is a greater challenge to him by seeing the truth of alchemy being something he never could have expected by the end the series tells us that even if you work hard you might not get what you want in return or you will get it but not in the way you expected but you will always have something worth having and you can't just give up just because the world is cruel the world can be also beautiful and in whatever you believe in life is still worth living I think both versions are great the ending of 2003 is amazing and is up there with the ending of Brotherhood but u right both versions are neither better and both are amazing I'm so sorry for making a Bible verse 💀 u kind of forgot to say about the ending again sorry and I respect ur opinion even though I disagree 2003 Edward gets way more development but still you a goat🤝🔥🤝 and this vid is amazing btw
Maybe my point wasn't clear, but I mean they both stay the same in terms of how they act given thier circumstances where characters like Winry al or even mustang (I can't see 2003 mustang having the same rage filled moment with envy as brotherhood) relatively somewhat diverge from thier manga counterparts
@@mr.l3938 no, manga edward is more deep and carries the themes of humility, humanity and redemption better. Unfortunately the edward in brotherhood was a little mistreated, but if you read the manga my point is clear
@@BruhBruh-ej4cd ig but imo the 03 Edward version is wayyy more developed episode 16 of fma03 is literally him talking to an old guy about his beliefs and his dreams, ed vs greed is another great episode example so is ed vs Sloth But all versions are amazing Imo 03 ed way more interesting but it's up to u g

Didn't render the outro in the first one lol.
Did yall catch the buso renkin reference?
I probably watched FMA & FMAB more ore less 4 times and I understand why most of the fandom always strives to keep it at the top of Anime rankings.
Even when the 2003 anime deviate from the canon material it probably one of the better or best interpretation of a source material
It did its own thing while still capturing the heart of fullmetal alchemist. It felt like these things could happen

the source material is better, but the 2003 version does a great job by diverging the story
I like both 2003 and Brotherhood as two interpretations of the same story. Both made me love FMA in a different way.
I never expected to hear a Spider-Man quote in an FMA video. 😅 All jokes aside, this was incredible. It beautifully sums up the impact of both series.

FMA was definitely a standout of all the anime I've watched. I can't even put it into words. Even the art style is very distinct as far as anime goes

i have finished full metal alchemist with my younger sister back in the day
