      Stan efferding is overall stronger but it would have been interesting to see if Ronnie being all carbed up in the bulking season would have made up the difference and equel him out to Stan, non the less even if this was the case Stan would still be pound for pound stronger, the fact Stan lifts what he does at only 275lbs is insane in and of it self.

      @Non' AchYourbusiness what I meant by specifically training those movement's is he wasn't training those movement's for a competition i.e his goal wasn't to max out his numbers. He was training for bodybuilding and bodybuilding style training often involves alot of volume training which isn't the optimal way to increase strength for a 1 rep max. So the fact he was as strong as he was while being far from the optimal method for training a 1 rep max is what makes his lifts so impressive. In the same way, powerlifters and strongman train bodybuilding movements but most of them would not have a physique anything close to an IFBB prob.

Folks like Iain Valliere or James Hollingshead are lifting incredible weights and people take those numbers with indifference. I think they can both rep 7-8 plates on the deadlift and around 7 for squats (maybe I'm wrong with this one). In the videos where Ronnie is benching wearing a red shirt, his nerve issues that affected his left shoulder are in full display. You can clearly see the muscle atrophy in his left arm, especially when he flat benched. No doubt before this condition started he could bench much more.

  • @arthurblackhistoric

    Stan always amazed me with his pressing ability, considering he had relatively small triceps. You'd expect someone who could bench 275kg to have triceps into the next room, not the flat muscle bellies and lack of any real mass that Stan unfortunately possessed. That being said, he became a real hero to me as a powerlifter. He claimed to be a bodybuilder but I think he got his pro card by the skin of his teeth. His main focus was definitely Powerlifting. He was kinda like Jim Cash from the early 80s who was definitely a Powerlifter who just happened to have a good physique, and Roger Estep who was much the same but even more massive than Cash and maybe Stan as well, given that he was pretty short and incredibly thick.

    Does anyone know what gear use would add on average to lifts or is it different for every lifter? Like if they’re deadlifting 850 on gear, would you expect them to deadlift 700 if they got everything? 600? Is there a general % increase in strength on different compounds ?

    • @marthamryglod291
      @marthamryglod291 2 роки тому

      It depends on your baseline strength and response to compounds that determines the improvement seen. Generally speaking, certain compounds increase strength more than others and taking more increases strength to the point where your receptors are maxed and your body begins to react to the stress of exogenous compounds negatively. There is an upper limit to taking gear. Test plus anadrol is a solid power lifting stack. You won't need as much as most people think to see huge progress.

    • @marthamryglod291
      @marthamryglod291 2 роки тому

      A real life example I've seen is a natural guy 5'10" 185lbs grew to 220lbs with the same diet and routine while taking 200mg cyp/ wk. He had low natural test levels and his blood work showed 950 free test on day six of seven, compared to 315 natural. His strength went from 285 squat max to 405, bench 245 to 385 and deadlift from 405 to 515. Those improvements were made by increasing test to the upper range of natural levels.

    Id say Ronnie for sure doesn't get deadlift. The 2nd rep was a bounce rep and not a dead stop rep. Meaning yes one can count it but also actually not. The full motion of a deadlift is to lift the weight stationary off the ground. So thus completing 2 reps means to place it stationary and reset. Still really impressive, I also feel Stan's depth on the squat was not super, I know judges that wouldn't give him a lift with that depth. But he does have a very wide stance so that could be what makes it look so odd.

    The Stan, 55 pounds lighter and stronger on pressing by far, a raw lifter, no squat suit and briefs that would have Stan over 1,100 pounds. Stan benched 606 with a pause to lockout in a 3 lift meet putting his gym single at z
    About 635. Ronnie’s unofficial lifts were done as a super heavy weight 330 and Stans at 275. None of the reps on presses were close to being locked. It is not even remotely close when you consider the conditions, the body weight or what I have no proof of but I can say with about 99% confidence (dispute it if that is your opinion) the amount of shit Ronnie was on to take his physique to untouchable from awesome genetics and 40 pounds lighter 2 years before his first Olympia victory (when Insulin, GH and IGF entered the equation. Stan had only been powerlifting briefly when he became world champion in his 40s, as a lifelong bodybuilder until he met Mark Bell while in his late 30s when he decided to start lifting as a powerlifter. Ronnie was a power lifter after playing college ball and trained as a power lifter (as far as how heavy he trained) and bodybuilder his entire career. Ronnie’s physique is untouchable. his strength is incredible but when compare his gym lifts to competitive lifts of Stan at 275 it really doesn’t warrant a comparison. Ronnie is the Probably the strongest bodybuilder at bodybuilding movements in a bodybuilding style of all time, but his barbell strength movements are smoked by Stan. If Stan got up to 330 he would be the first raw lifter to total 2500
    Pounds and probably a lot closer to 2700. That’s how strong that son of a bitch is. Incredible only slightly overshadowed by a much younger, heavier and better coached Larry Wheels.

    4 weeks out from MR O , do you realise how drained Ronnie would have been in a calorie deficit , low body fat .. and not even doing power lifting training .... where as Stan is an all year power lifter .... yet Ronnie is still able to match and beat him on some lifts ... with that much of an advantage ... Now Imagine Ronnie training all year round to powerlifting with added weight and proper calories consumption...... I think we know Ronnie would've wiped him out no problem.
    Can guarantee if Stan was training for MR O .. his strength would've plummeted.... and stans deadlift didnt look legit to me ... he was round shouldered didnt look like he locked out at all... and Ronnie range of motion of the squat was much deeper then stan who used a really wide stance with not great depth

    Well in overhead press Ronnie has done 315 for 12 reps..and has claimed to have done 405 for a single. Also you forgot about t bar rows..where I know Ronnie would crush him...and leg press where Ronnie does 2,300 pounds for 7 reps. To me it's a unfair comparison.

    • @StrengthUniverse
      @StrengthUniverse  2 роки тому +2

      The only video of Stan doing a T-Bar Row was from 2019 when he was 52 years old, not really fair to compare a 52 year old who has retired from competing with Ronnie at 36 and in his prime. Leg Presses shouldn't really be compared because every machine is completely different. I couldn't find Stan doing any comparable (seated) shoulder press.
