  • The ATOM 500 is Vaxis latest entry in the world of wireless transmission systems. It boasts a 500' line of site range, loop through HDMI transmitter, and dual HDMI out receiver. In addition to traditional monitor hookups, the Vaxis ATOM 500 emits a Wifi signal for several iOS or Android devices, allowing for even more on set monitoring. In this video we unbox, review, and dive into the functions of this wireless transmission system to show you exactly what you get with the ATOM 500.

      Great review man! I've been playing around with this device and tried to use it with my atomos ninja v. I was having problems with the signal coming from the camera going into the monitor then the atom 500. So I think the solution will be going into the vaxis then the atomos ninja (worked for other non recording field monitor). I'm recording externally through the atomos ninja v into a SSD. Do you think the loop out/HDMI passthrough on vaxis atom to atomos will be a problem for recording 4k 24 to the atomos? Thanks man!

    • @garrettsammons
      @garrettsammons  4 роки тому

      I don't believe you'll lose anything on the passthrough, though you may want to do some testing of it. If it's a true passthrough, your bitrate shouldn't be affected.

    Nicely reviewed, although I would have also liked to see a 'distance test' and time-to-reconnect when signal is dropped. Comparing the recorded signal from 'latency mode' and 'quality mode' would also be a bonus. Thanks for putting this together.

    Good work yet again, my man. Question, do you think one could pull focus with this bad boy or is the latency too high?

    • @wrightcubbins
      @wrightcubbins 2 роки тому

      It is definitely on the high end of latency from my experience so far... I do however like the signal strength of this transmitter as it seems to have no issue transmitting fair distances and at night when it gets cold and moist (from my experience most transmitters start to get glitchy near the end of a shooting day outdoors)
      Another transceiver system I am looking at is the Accsoon CineEye II Pro (with SDI) and it seems to fair very similarly although it is much larger and has a significant delay in its audio.

    Would you need to purchase multiple kits to add additional cameras to an event feed or would it only require additional transmitters. I assume a separate kit for each remote camera feed. Then video capture usb 3.0's fed into a laptop directly or through an hdmi mixer to run a live studio production.

    Is there any chance that you could test the latency with a Blackmagic camera? Panasonic cameras have notoriously bad HDMI output delay. Other cameras can have better delay like the P4K or EOS R.

    Thank you for posting this review. I am looking to use a product like this for my live streams at my local go karting track, but since the go karts are electric, the kart motors emit a significant amount of EMF/RF and from other wireless video transmitters that I have, it jams the transmission and renders the on-board video useless. Do you know if the Atom 500 is more resistant to EMF/RF from a Tx/Rx perspective short of taking it to an electric go kart track and strapping it on to see if it can transmit without interference? Any perspectives on this is greatly appreciated!

    • @garrettsammons
      @garrettsammons  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Joel, I have no idea if there’s any shielding built into this device. My guess would be no. Most wireless video transmission tech is very susceptible to interference.

      I have two of these and both have failed me at one time or another. In one case both failed completely at the same time during a wedding ceremony. Works fine when testing prior to an event, but seems to fail when the room is full of people. I have the receivers high up on a light stand with line of sight and only a few metres distance. I suspect it may be to do with mobile phone signals at the wedding. I can no longer rely on them and use only for non critical work.

      @@glplivestreaming4558 UPDATE: I believe I have solved the problem with my two Vaxis 500's failing during a live stream. I found that when using Sony battery packs there were sometimes connection problems on both units. I don't think it is the batteries but more likely the connectors on the Vaxis units. I found that by using external power banks connected to the Vaxis by USB C solves the problem. I have tested this estensively for up to 3 hours running two units. I was satisfied with the testing and last weekend I used both for a live streamed ceremony where they performed flawlessly for about 2 hours. Confidence has been restored!

    Hi. In your personal opinion, which is a better Hollyland 400s Pro or the Vaxis Atom 500? I’ve looked for a comparison between the Hollyland 400s Pro vs the Vaxis Atom 500, but NO ONE has done that comparison. I see that you have held and done videos on them both, because I’m stuck in my decision in which unit to buy. Your videos are fantastic and Thank you for your time and opinion.

    • @garrettsammons
      @garrettsammons  2 роки тому +1

      I’ll toss another into the mix. The HollyView app is undefeated. If you are looking for remote viewing the the app, hands down go for Hollyland. Ergonomically, the Mars 400s Pro is a nightmare. In this regard, the Vaxis is much easier to mount and streamline in your kit. That said, I feel like the Mars 400s (not “pro”) is kind of the best of both. Ergonomically works identically to the Vaxis and has the benefit of app support.

    • @rolo17
      @rolo17 2 роки тому

      So if it were for a church setting, will you still recommend the 400s( not the pro )?

    • @garrettsammons
      @garrettsammons  2 роки тому +1

      In any environments where there is a lot of wireless congestion (like a church) your range and stability will be both be reduced. Line-of-sight between the transmitter and receiver is quite important. Both the 400S and 400S Pro would be preferable in those locations due to stronger/adjustable antennae. Honestly, for what you’re looking to do, I don’t know how much of a difference the Pro would really give you over the S. The Pro’s biggest feature is the livestream compatibility built into the unit. Outside of that, I don’t think it’s much “better”.

    Hi, Can you recommend a power pack to run this device for 3 hours on a gimbal. To hook it up with a usb C connection and hang it on the waist belt or gimbal tripod legs, etc.

    • @garrettsammons
      @garrettsammons  3 роки тому +1

      That’s a good question. Depending on the gimbal you’re using, you may be able to plug it in directly to that to get power. I’d be hesitant to run power off a power pack that’s cable attached to you and not the gimbal, as it would throw your balance off depending on the moves you’re trying to get.

The Vaxis ATOM 500 receiver converts these HDMI frame rates to 60, 30, and 24 Hz and cannot be configured otherwise. Failing to support standard video frame rates is UNACCEPTABLE in a product marketed for professional use in the USA.
