And so this year I want to believe we will be better. Not even good but around .500. Please Texans, be better. Fir all of us.

I still think it's funny that they made the biggest mistake of telling the coach that he was going to be fired before the season was over so then he tried his ass off 😂
the team last year was closer to 5 wins, they took the chiefs and titans down to the wire, and the causes of those losses are gone. definitely 6 win floor but i think the ceiling is higher, divisional playoffs at the highest
At least under Ryans, the Texans show loads of promise for the coming years. Especially as he gets more talent to build up on defense and if Slowik knows his stuff for play calling to make things easy for Stroud. He will def need to develop his own version of Fred Warner to have that dimension of quarters and coverage in the middle he could play with. But in return his secondary is going to do a lot of heavy lifting with the talent he has.
First of all i gotta say, im not confident we make the move to up to 2 or 3 for waj/stroud if we got 1.1.. it would've been alot more pricey and don't think we pull the trigger. It was the perfect scenario, bryce goes 1.1 and by us taking stroud first, Tennessee don't need to trade for 1.3 therefore made it easier for us to get 1.3 for waj.
I didn't really love their draft class but I do have trust in Demeco Ryans that he knows the players that work in his system. I'll never be convinced that trading up to get will Anderson was smart process but I'm really excited to see what they do with him. I think if they can win 5 or 6 games and just show competence this season will be successful.
Lmao are you joking? You don’t have to love their draft class but know that they drafted talented guys with the right mindset…. They didn’t trade anything to move up really I mean they pick swap, gave up a second round that they traded up to get anyways and gave up the next years third round pick which is useless but they got back anyways…. That first round pick they have up really depends on how they do which if you know the Texans it could be outside of the top 5 and depending on the league outside of the top 10…. They had 4 games last season where they easily could of won if Davis mills didn’t turnover the ball or didn’t play absolute dog shit to the point they use the backup and third string in one game where they could of won…. Now they have a QB, potentially a top 15 o line, Schultz, Pierce and Singletary, a Unproven WR group that has multiple WR1s, Potentially a top 10-15 secondary… Good linebackers, Better d line and Way better Coaching staff with the 3rd easiest schedule… Yeah they ain’t gonna win 5 or 6 games with that all that in mind 😭🤣
Even if they don't win 5 or 6 games it is still a great assessment of where their rebuild with their youth and talent are. I understand homer fans want to overrate the fuck out of their talents but sometimes, having better talent means you can do more with less reliance on schemes. Ryans knows this all too well with the Niners in recent years because as long as he could get to 3rd down, his 4 man rush is ready for the QB. So he just has to mix up his coverages to make it hell for the opposing QB. Plus Fred Warner vs a slot WR or a TE doesn't matter.
@andrewcruz530 I like everything but the WR comment. I do not believe we have multiple 1s, but a stable of unproven WRs with hopes that a few guys can step up
@@LaytoTRD Robert woods, Nico and John Metchie… Yes they have multiple WR1s…. Metchie couldn’t even play, Nico got hurt and Woods is solid…. They are unproven but why can he WR1 if they stay healthy
The Texans could honestly make the playoffs if everything clicks. I'm a big believer in Ryans as a HC and they got young talent everywhere and some good established pieces. If a few teams in the AFC disappoint and everything goes right for Houston, they could win 8-9 games.
You are expecting too much out of a young team that has not fully galvanized yet under Ryans. Plus with how stacked the AFC North and East are, 8-9 wins isn't enough to sneak into the wild card. Ryans will def do a bang up job calling the defense but he's also gotta show he's got the nuance to manage games and adjust accordingly. His OC also has to show he's good enough to get great results from what little he will work with for the time being and keep things simple for Stroud. And we don't know how Stroud will handle reading coverages in the pros.
@@t4d0W Not saying it's guaranteed to happen but if most of the young guys ball out, then they could win 9 games. IK the AFC is stacked but disappointments happen every year and 9 games could get them in the playoffs.
The AFC is stacked so unless a lot of teams disappoint then maybe but as far as I’m concerned the only way they could get in or any team out of that division could get in and yes I’m talking about the overrated Jaguars is if they win the division
@@rahultalkssports1404 You do realize the Jags won 6-1 after their bye week to get to 9-8 by the end of last season due to their impressive passing offense right? The Fins were 9-8 DESPITE playing 3 different QBs with their amazing offensive weapons and a defense that was inconsistent. Your scope of the AFC 'disappointing' is an odd context considering how much more competitive the conference has been in recent years. The 2 teams I mentioned are getting better next season too. Now if you want the Texans in the wildcard by 9 wins, lobby for them to switch to the NFC.
@@t4d0W I never said that teams will definitely disappoint but there's always the possibility that they do. The Dolphins could if Tua misses 5-6 games, the Jets could if Rodgers declines even more and the offensive coaching staff sucks, the Ravens could if Lamar can't stay healthy, the Titans could if their QB play isn't good, and the Browns could if Watson doesn't get back to form. It's not guaranteed to happen but it's a possibility.
If stroud can just be average in his rookie year, I think that's enough for offense to make a 15-20 offensive rank and im leaning closer to 15. Having pierce is a blessing but just having a competent qb alone is going to help pierce so much simply by just not having so many stacked boxes. And thank God we don't have Rex getting the ball on 3rd down on EVERY 3rd down 😮💨😮💨. Offense can surprise alot of people.
That is one fun thing about the AFC South in a few years. 3 teams with young blue chip QBs showing out with the fireworks. Pederson is ahead of the pack but I'd like to see what Steichen and Slowik can do for their guys.
Please add a letter grade to the report card. This would do a lot to help us understand what you think of that group and let us know that even though it's neutral, it is still good or bad
The Texans I can give a pass to their fans. There’s bad, then there’s toxically unwatchable. The team in the past few years didn’t deserve to have fans with the way it was run.
Id agree that PFF narrative that they shouldn't have gave Arizona their pick because it's going to be a top 3 pick is dumb improved roster improved at QB and coaching if anything the browns pick maybe top 5 pick
My guess is that they'll be around each somewhere in the teens, ceiling on the Browns pick probably in the low 20s. That top three talk for the Cardinals is laughable. Not only are the Texans improved in every aspect, they also have a relatively easy schedule. The back half of the season is built for a young team gelling and going on a serious run.
@@ericparker163 the browns have a tough division though they got to face Joe burrow Lamar Jackson and Mike Tomlin twice idk if they can win in the division and cardinals have Clayton tune who I think can win them some games but can't wait for preseason to see these young guys play
Well well, 10-7 turned out to be right on the money. I guess you will just have to live with the fact that you were wrong about them not making the playoffs
I feel like there’s still a lot of potential problems with the interior offensive line. Green was absolutely awful last year, so he’s got a major leap to just be okay. Juice is gonna be a rookie center, operating with a rookie qb, which puts a lot of pressure on blocking calls and blitz pickups. Mason was definitely a needed shot in the arm at rg, but I have some questions about his fit in a zone blocking scheme - wasn’t that part of why the patriots traded him away a couple years ago?
Eh it’s more different with a new QB and they got him for a bag of chips… He’s a vet which is always helpful and he’s a still a good player at his position
This was the first one where I’ve seen too much brett bias bleed through. Acting like the rookie qb is going to blow past 3400 is unrealistic. Im an osu fan and rookie qbs dont usually blow past that number in the way you were saying.
If you've watched Brett's content he's quite the optimist in MANY situations. Along with how the Bootleg NFL preview has been structured this time around. But it is his content so regardless if you choose to agree or disagree, you engage in it.
Good lord what a circlejerk episode. Only a few things mentioned were good faith opinions. Let's start with the draft: 1. Losing the first overall pick for no reason was awful, please stop pretending Lovie was actually good when he couldn't do the one job he was meant to do. 2. Mortgaging your future (probable top 12 pick) for a good not great edge is *bad* roster management. This team is not building to win right this moment so they shouldn't spend draft capital like they are. 3. They overdrafted Scruggs even which, even if you like the guy a lot, was still draft malpractice because you definitely could've gotten him at least a round or two later. The coaches takes I largely agreed with. I'm high on DeMeco as a HC partly because his predecessor Saleh killed it in NY and Slowik as an OC. I don't think the o-line is as solid as Brett wants it to be and the offensive playmakers need more talent to be confident in. The more particularly egregious assumptions were the win total ceilings and floors. 1. This is still a wildly unproven team with a steeper learning curve than most other teams in the AFC. They are less talented than most of the teams in the conference and that will rear its ugly head during the season. 2. 9/10 wins as a ceiling is a laughable proposition when teams like the Browns earned a generous 9 win ceiling from EJ. Again this conference is possibly the best its been in decades, literally generationally good, and a team like the Texans with a rookie HC, QB, OC, DC, etc are a poor bet to make any noise for playoff contention (barring top percentile injury luck) 3. Most sportsbooks have their win total at 6.5. I know the Texans have an easier schedule this year but we are nuanced enough on this channel to understand Vegas probably has a better gauge on the league than any singular entity. If what both EJ and Brett are saying is true, then there is absolutely no reason to not be absolutely printing money taking advantage of the buffoons running a multi-billion dollar industry. This is just false hope. The worst part was them getting it wrong about the AFC south being good this year. Tennessee is not a return to form candidate and Indy has the same problems Houston has but much worse as Richardson is the most unproven commodity in the NFL. The division is the only saving grace from not having a 5 win season. All in all, I really wish the guys were more objective in their analysis and not so much Brett intellectualizing his homerism and EJ nodding along because it feels good to root for an underdog.
They drafted Juice Scruggs that high because they liked him…. Also because other teams were looking at him therefore they drafted him… If you see a player go higher where he is projected to it’s because other teams have interest in them and going off of projected shit is dumb especially when you add in the fact that Luke Wypler who was accordingly the second best center fell to the 6th round …. Also Joe Tippman who was the 3rd best or 4th best center was the first center taken….. The Texans roster look good enough to atleast win 6-7 games…. Infact they should of won 6-7 games if Davis mills didn’t turn over the ball or play dogshit in the last moments in the game… (Colts, Bears, Cheifs and Cowboys because he was so shit they decided to use 3 QBS!) last year they had the “easiest schedule” and this year they have the 3rd easiest schedule…. To sit here and not say that they cannot atleast just split every Divisional game and win 3-4 more is ridiculous… They can sweep the jags like they have always have, split with the Titans, sweep or split with the Colts and then win 3-4 more games after that which with that schedule is very easy to do… I don’t like it when people talk shit about their WRs because they are all unproven for them… Woods and Brown just got signed, Tank just got drafted, Metchie couldn’t even play last season and Nico also got hurt… Nico and Metchie can easily be WR1 for them if they stay healthy…. They o line can potentially be a top 15 unit if Green does good and Juice does decent… They have Schultz who is a top 10 TE, Pierce who is very good, Singletary and even a good FB that we know they will use (Andrew beck)…. That secondary looks really good like top 15 if DSJ stays healthy and can be even higher if Derek Stingley Jr plays good….The linebacker group looks solid, The d line looks much better and Yes Demeco is a rookie HC and Yes they also have a rookie OC but that doesn’t mean they can’t just be decent and still be near top .500…. Stroud is a rookie QB But he doesn’t have to be elite the first season for them to be at or near top .500…. Demeco Ryan’s being a rookie HC doesn’t really mean anything when you realize this guy was still a DC at SF and was basically like a coach and a born leader throughout his whole career which is why his nickname is “Captain” therefore this would just be natural to him…. With all that in mind they also play in the worst division in football so if they can make the playoffs by just winning it
1. Lovie was unapologetically Lovie even given the circumstance he was in. Did you expect him to return that defense to the glory of the best of 'Tampa 2' style with a sub par D-line, a mike that isn't on the level of Urlacher and an unproven and young secondary? 2. Arguable but this team was also lacking in talent overall besides *high* quality talent. So Ryans and the staff are confident they can turn some of their late picks into adequate quality starters in due time. They are still going to scrape the bottom of the barrel in 3-4 years regardless and parts of the defense (especially trench talent and coverage LBs) will need about that time to really come to their own. That is how Ryans cut his teeth with the Niners defense for years. But when it came to fruition, they are as good as they got in part of having that high talent in the right places (which John Lynch hit and missed with). Regarding win totals, ceilings and floors I that has been the trend with this Bootleg NFL preview this time around. Brett was giving the homer fans some objective optimism because that is all they have to do every week which is put on their team cap and jersey every Sunday. But outside of that there is still some things to look forward to if you want to watch the games themselves and make expectations about team progress and key guys to watch out for. Besides I think there is enough 'objective' NFL preview stuff out there anyway if you want to get nerdy about it.
@@andrewcruz530 Scruggs would've slid to at least the mid third round if not deeper into Day 3. Overdrafting a player because "you like him" is bad practice end of story. If he was taken 3rd overall would the story be the same? Getting value on a player projected to go high and then falls is *GOOD* process (Wypler) but reaching on a player because you think another team might want him is *BAD* process. History has shown that reaching for guys you like in the draft does not work out, see the Raiders during the entire Gruden tenure. The Texans can absolutely win 6-7 this year I'm not disputing that and didn't say otherwise. What I'm saying is there is no conceivable way they win 10. This AFC is comically stacked and the Texans cannot hang with most of the other teams in the conference. All of your justifying that every unit can be top 15 proves my point even further. This is at best a middling roster with a capability of imploding yet again. This team is not going to win 10, 9, or maybe even 8 games. Stroud has to be very, very good for this team to be .500. Also the NFC South is the worst division in football
@@Jon-fc2ss NFC south and AFC south can be debatable but like I said they could of won 7 games last year with that shit of a year with mills… Your telling me for them to be at or near top .500 he has to be very good? No he doesn’t unless he throws 15 INTs and has a QB rating of a 78.8 maybe…. And no you missed my point…. They obviously liked him because he fits their scheme they are running and has a mindset like a VET…. Other teams had interest in Scruggs Lmao another reason why teams over draft is because other teams are looking at the same guy and would pick him…. Basically people were looking at Scruggs more than Wypler…. Saying they could of got him later is ridiculous because like I mentioned the best center in the class wasn’t taken first and the second best center fell because teams didn’t like what they saw in him…. I didn’t say 7 wins I said 8-9 wins depending on if they sweep the colts which with everything I said in there would be at 9 games and that’s 1 game off of 10…. And if you have a top 15 unit how is that bad? You know that teams that had top 15-20 units like defensive Line or offensive line or secondary or etc were in the playoffs right? And if they wanna get a lot of wins they don’t necessarily have to beat AFC teams
@@andrewcruz530 Yes Stroud has to be very good for this team to go .500. Mayfield/Russ esque rookie season. He has to carry this roster if he wants to win 9+ because this team is still at least a year away from competing. You can’t get by with an ok QB in this conference which is something Texans fans should understand. Again just because you like a prospect doesn’t mean you should reach for him. Taking Scruggs because you like him is bad because you’re betting that you know more than 31 other NFL teams, thousands of scouts working for those teams and other orgs, as well as the general public. This strategy does not work as I referenced the raiders earlier. Firstly, the Texans would have to take SEVERAL steps forward to even be top 15 in almost any category. They were a bad team last year and that cannot be disputed. Second, even being top 15 in every single category might only grant you a 7 seed if you’re lucky in this AFC. It would take a miracle for the Texans to pull that off next year. This is still not a good roster. On top of that all of the coaches are young and inexperienced. If I’m so wrong and they’re actually gonna win 8+ next year, go ahead and print money through a Sportsbook then. The market agrees with me and delusional Texan homers agree w EJ & Brett
He's probably said so at some point that I've forgotten, but given where Brett lives and grew up how the heck did he become a Texans then Bears fan? Why does he hate himself?

“People think they’re in contention for the #1 pick and I think they’re F’ing insane” it’s disappointing y’all are higher on the Texans roster than the Bucs. Take Brady away from them last season and tell me how Byron fucking Leftwich gets scores. The dude wanted to run so much in early downs and showed little for it in terms of efficiency. Good luck with passing in late downs in mid/long with that tattered O-line as well. Brady willed that team to 8 wins all while Todd Bowles couldn't do his 'defensive work' because teams ran all over his defense and couldn't get opposing offenses to 3rd and mid/long. In watching your afc west recap show. EJ states Maxx Crosby is a top 2-3 edge rusher in the league? He’s elite that’s not debatable. But he’s better than Garrett or TJ Watt? TJ coming off the injury sure, sacks aren’t everything sure, but Crosby is better than TJ Watt? 22.5 sacks in the equivalent of 13.5 games? Even in an injury riddled season was single handedly responsible for the Steelers defense being elite to being below average? 7-2 with TJ giving up 17 ppg, 1-7 without TJ giving up 25 ppg? Crosby is better than that dude? Thought I’d check on ya that 1 boys. Love your insight. Crosby is top 5, I wouldn’t say he’s top 2-3. And so this year I want to believe we will be better. Not even good but around .500. Please Texans, be better. Fir all of us.
Bro you thought mills and lovie would make the team better?😭
@@lumineer_3 Not really. I thought Pierce, Stingley, and the general talent would be better than the year prior. I thought 4+ wins was reasonable but the eggs in my face lol.
@@aaronratner6343 yea I get the hype with the rookies, and they did deliver, it’s gonna be better this year by far
I still think it's funny that they made the biggest mistake of telling the coach that he was going to be fired before the season was over so then he tried his ass off 😂
Top tier title
the team last year was closer to 5 wins, they took the chiefs and titans down to the wire, and the causes of those losses are gone. definitely 6 win floor but i think the ceiling is higher, divisional playoffs at the highest
Where do they get the data for defensive scheme percentages by team?
I didn't really love their draft class but I do have trust in Demeco Ryans that he knows the players that work in his system. I'll never be convinced that trading up to get will Anderson was smart process but I'm really excited to see what they do with him. I think if they can win 5 or 6 games and just show competence this season will be successful.
they had the extra draft capital to do it, & he fills a team need, what’s the issue?

Ive been holding off on watching these episodes, but this title got me to click...i guess its time to dive in.
Hypetrain arrived 🔥
It's not guaranteed to happen but it's a possibility.
darnell swallowed will (pause)
as a texans fan, i will forever be eternally grateful for hannah mcnair.
Funky stuff with 4 guys huh brett?😂😂😂😂
Idk why draft fantasy draft position is being talked about right now. No one that's any good is drafting for weeks.
Is every team in afc winning 7 games lol
Now the Texans have Ryan's, looks like im a Texans fan now

Yeah yeah Texan but more importantly cato
My hot take is the Texans have a better record than Cleveland
That would be absolutely hilarious, all the pundits saying they were stupid to give away their 1st and keep Cleveland’s.
I don’t think that is such a hot take. Browns could easily go 0-6 in their division.
Looking forward to the potential Anthony Richardson v. CJ Stroud rivalry 😍
CJ vs AR vs TLAW
@@5pdrAFC south is about to get spicy
That is one fun thing about the AFC South in a few years. 3 teams with young blue chip QBs showing out with the fireworks. Pederson is ahead of the pack but I'd like to see what Steichen and Slowik can do for their guys.
2:29 you got that Pick because you have one of the worst players in the history of the NFL as your QB1
Honestly don't think the Texans will be that bad
Please add a letter grade to the report card. This would do a lot to help us understand what you think of that group and let us know that even though it's neutral, it is still good or bad
I’m labeling Brett as a fair weather Texans fan
Afc south yay that means next week hopefully nfc east 🦅🦅🦅 unless they have another week off, either way getting closer
You can be a Texans fan again - you just have to massage the facts of the last couple of years a bit.
I’m sorry Brett, but CJ would have to break the curse of OSU QBs being bad in the NFL in order to be the franchise QB.
*knowin the texans Stroud n Anderson both get injured n get traded away for peanuts lol*
the hell is wrong with you?
This was the first one where I’ve seen too much brett bias bleed through. Acting like the rookie qb is going to blow past 3400 is unrealistic. Im an osu fan and rookie qbs dont usually blow past that number in the way you were saying.
Don't do it, Brett
Brett's Homerism is showing for the ceiling of this team. Alot of unproven variables all around.
10 wins for the Texans is laughable in this AFC. Vegas has the o/u at 6.5

Description still says panthers
Good lord what a circlejerk episode. Only a few things mentioned were good faith opinions. Let's start with the draft:
Again this conference is possibly the best its been in decades, literally generationally good, and a team like the Texans with a rookie HC, QB, OC, DC, etc are a poor bet to make any noise for playoff contention (barring top percentile injury luck)

Bucs have almost all the playmakers from the super-bowl team and then some. Brady started to hurt the Bucs more than helping them towards the end and I’m convinced Byron leftwitch had money against us every game. (I’m not ready to go back in the dark ages and I’m coping)
Watch some fucking games.
Bill Lazor best years for Andy Dalton, lmao, the Texans are doomed
Brett's Homer glasses are on again. It's a new head coach and you never know how to play even if everything points up. 10 wins isn't just optimistic, it's asinine. This is a 5 to 8 win team
keep hating bud, it’ll work soon.
