+Harmless Rebel's Vinyl Channel If I make it back, I want to see if they would let me view their back room just to see what gear they were working on. I love vintage McIntosh gear and would love to see what they were asking for the pre-amp that was in the video.
Update: Over 2 years ago I said I was looking forward to checking out these stores when I relocate from England. Been here since August 2017 and got to meet the guys at Heights a few times but at their relocated store. I must say for a city of Houston’s size I am very disappointed on the lack of music and in particular audio equipment stores. Will be checking out Sweet Spot Records this week though
Hello DJWerkz...so I got to say, outside of Cactus, Houston is a real disappointment for record shopping. There have been a few new shops that have popped up since I've made these videos. I had footage from the Vinal Edge and Black Dog Records but the later also folded...supposedly. Did you make it to Sweet Spot? I am not sure if they have been open with all of the COVID stuff. If you do get in, they price things to move so it's the best spot to find a deal on a record. If you can ever swing it, check out Austin when they have their annual record convention in the fall. It's the biggest outside of the one held in the Netherlands.
BarakaPDub Yes I made it to Sweet Spot, they mostly cater for traditional American music tastes which is rock/guitar based. Their used stock needs to be checked closely as what I saw was not in the best condition but pricing is reasonable and you can have a deal. I picked up a new and sealed MFSL One Step Marvin Gaye box and Stuart n Steve are great to deal with. I feel their audio side of the business needs a complete re-think, their stock is basically the inventory they purchased from the previous owner when they took over the business and it’s the kind of equipment that unless you mark really low on sale is never going to move. I am hoping to spend a weekend in Austin once all the COVID thing is behind us.
Fantastic looking store Paul. This is the last thing I'm watching before I go shut-eye (it's just turned midnight here in the UK), and the sight of all that vintage gear is going to give me some sweet dreams. Night night, zzzzzzz
You know...I shot some footage in there and talked to Chuck about a year back. I need to string it into a video. I also did Black Dog Records, and a couple of oterhs. I do like the Vinal Edge though.
+Richard Riley Yeah. What I didn't capture on film while was there was a couple of young people in their early twenties that were looking to refurbish their parents turntable for their own use. I wouldn't surprise me if they get a lot of customers pulling out decks from the 70's and 80's.
Sweet. Let me know if you would to go out on a dig sometime. Houston has a few good stores and we're pretty close to Austin and San Antonio that has even more. Austin is probably the Mecca of music for the state of Texas.
+Verbfromarizona is 90s Hiphop/BoomBap/Jazz/Beats/Instrumentals/Grimey Head Nod Bangers ONLY! It reminded me of a Nightmares On Wax cover. Thanks for watching.
Place looks awesome ! I have a sickness for old gear and records ! Could be dangerous. Really nice to hear about a shop with good guys that move on prices , that's rare. Thanks for sharing, if I was in that areas is be in there a lot !
+helmut Diggy I like stores that will negotiate prices and they approached me about it when I was looking at the record I purchased. Moreover, they encouraged that I play the record which I settled on in the store (a old Chess Bo Diddley by the way). There are few stores around that encourage that. They could have left well enough alone and not said anything and had me pay the top price for that tier.
Very cool look at the store....I am contemplating a trip to that area in the next few months..would love to check that and all else as well...great vid take care and have a great week
Great production, timing and footage Paul. I know I missed this one. This looks awesome. One thing is with these Shops, they MUST recycle the wall or rearrange and mix up. Cool!! Steve
+FlipSideCT Thanks Steve. For some reason I wrote a comment but it didn't stick. I hope to swing back there in a few months to see if it changed. My time there was limited so I didn't have a lot of time to dig.
Now that is a music store video. Way to go Paul. > Heights vinyl looks fantastic. Love their wall of vinyl and the components. . Like you stated "lots of stuff within a tight compact store". Well done. That was enjoyable~ Rob/Boston
Yup. Had a great time while it lasted and I hope the majority of People that went have some found memories of it. You can’t say I didn’t put every bit of heart and Soul behind it. A simple positive Memory of my Baby goes a long way. I know I couldn’t have controlled every experience people had there, but I truly attempted to make every Customer feel like they belonged there and left with some good feeling out the Door. Thanks for all that provided positive vibes throughout and hopefully will remember some Record, piece of equipment, or just good experience just hanging out and chatting. It was always my 1st objective. Thx.
+DocStrangelyStrange If you do swing by this side of the ocean, please let me know, we'll have to hook up for a dig! On the McIntosh pre-amp, if I ever make it back that way and it's still there, I'll have to ask how much he wants for it because I am really curious.
pretty cool store there paul, im assuming you live in texas paul haha just a wild guess.. it reminds me a bit of my local record store called zoinks records, he also negotiates the prices a bit.. great stuff paul.. peace..
+Rigo Hernandez Thanks for watching Rigo and yeah, I am a Texas resident. Houston does have a few good stores but I think the Creme de la Creme is in Austin or Dallas.
Word.. Are you on facebook or instagram by any chance? I wanted to send you a vclt, and i need to know of you are looking for anything that could possibly be lingering in any of my local stores.. Why? Just to thank you. Because of your channel as well as brothers van and kieran, I've learn to love and appreciate jazz alot more.. So thank you for that paul.. Peace.. Rigo from L.A..
+dixielandfarm The last NY store I was in was Virgin Records when they had their Broadway location. I couldn't hit any stores on my last trip but if the shop were in New York, I am sure more stuff would be crammed in.
I hope to catch them in a future video! I was there four years ago but it was long before I was doing these. I did dig the vibe of the shop when I was there.
Looks like a very cool store. I love stores that also sell vintage gear.

+James Griffiths (Vinyl Professor) Ha! Thanks for giving me the last few minutes of your night. Glad I kept this one short.
Make sure to stop by Vinal Edge and you can play "frisbee" with the Vinal. Chuck won't mind! 😁
You know...I shot some footage in there and talked to Chuck about a year back. I need to string it into a video. I also did Black Dog Records, and a couple of oterhs. I do like the Vinal Edge though.
Looks like a great store. I think the combo of vinyl and vintage electronics is a smart business decision.
+Richard Riley Yeah. What I didn't capture on film while was there was a couple of young people in their early twenties that were looking to refurbish their parents turntable for their own use. I wouldn't surprise me if they get a lot of customers pulling out decks from the 70's and 80's.
Yes it is!
Wow, that looks ike a nice plave to hang out. I especially like the corner with the speakers. Somehow a lot of woofers look cool :) /Paul
+X junkie NL It reminded me of the Nightmares On Wax album. It definitely gives it a nice aesthetic. Thanks for watching Paul. :)/Paul II
Look forward to checking that out when I relocate to Houston from the UK. And yes, my 1000's of LP's are moving with me 😉
Sweet. Let me know if you would to go out on a dig sometime. Houston has a few good stores and we're pretty close to Austin and San Antonio that has even more. Austin is probably the Mecca of music for the state of Texas.
BarakaPDub Definitely my friend, email me craigland67@gmail.com

+psykodj67 If you do swing through H-town, let me know. If I am not busy, maybe we can hook up for a dig.

+Paneeks1960 {Rob/Boston} Rob, the walls of records in that store reminded me of your record room!
+James Griffiths (Vinyl Professor) Hah! Come to think of it, was I in Rob's home???
+Paneeks1960 {Rob/Boston} Thanks for watching Rob! Hope you are doing well.
R.I.P.
Did it go under? I haven't been to the Heights in a year or so.
Yup. Had a great time while it lasted and I hope the majority of People that went have some found memories of it. You can’t say I didn’t put every bit of heart and Soul behind it. A simple positive Memory of my Baby goes a long way.

Looks like I really nice shop. Maybe I will pop in next time I'm passing! ;-)
McIntosh amps are really nice.
Take care

I thought it looked like there was a bit of room (compared to NY stores)... but the camera may not be telling the story.
+dixielandfarm The last NY store I was in was Virgin Records when they had their Broadway location. I couldn't hit any stores on my last trip but if the shop were in New York, I am sure more stuff would be crammed in.
Check out Black Dog records. Bellaire

Reservoir Dogs Pricing Model! So Mr. Pink pricing, it doesn't tip?
+The Mastiff Dad Very astute eye! Yeah, I didn't cross into Mr. Pink territory to find out.
