  • Common and Pete Rock first linked up in 1996 for Common's Ice Cube diss track. Twenty-eight years later, the hip-hop veterans are releasing an album-length collaboration, "The Auditorium, Vol. 1." The Chicago rapper-actor and New York producer-rapper sat down with AP entertainment editor Ryan Pearson to look back at "The ***** In Yoo" and prioritizing art over commerce as they entered the music business - and to celebrate their reunion: "iron sharpens iron." #common #peterock #hiphop

I played it like 5 times today 😊 9/10 for me. Check out Daniel Son and Futurewave as well. Blu and Evidence dopped today also. 3 dope albums in one day. What an historic day for Hip-Hop.

Glad you came back common. With Pete Rock. So cool. Back in the day you all were before your time. Your lyrics were teaching lyrics. Helping culture music. I know that’s why I bought certain music. Listening is an art too!! Thanks!!!❤❤❤

Com shouting out Threat (Deadly Threat) shows he truly knows his West coast rap. Threat had my favorite cameo on Pac’s second album and there were a lot of major cameos on there

Such a good tandem, even in doing interviews. They complement each other very well.

Great interview. Interviewer was smart to just let Com talk. Pete Rock knows just when to interject and add on.

I think there's a lot more to walk away with on this record than past beefs and the music business. Be cool for interviews to dig into the creative part of what they actually do. There's a lot of conversations that could be had on this project beyond those convos right there. I do like what Comm added in regards to why eMCees get into this business and it shouldn't be to destroy one another. That ain't sustainable especially for those in the culture that you might admire. But I think that's more of a war Hip Hop contimues to have with industry than two of its artists going against one another.

I’m from the same area as common ironically I met him at a concert in San Francisco 96-97. The Roots preformed, Coup, it was crazy. I was 16. I tipped the bouncer to get back stage and wow Ice-T was there i walked up to told him like im from the crib he invited me to a party but gave me the wrong info🤦🏽‍♂️😂. Idc it made my day.

The Coup!!! Classic underrated group. Shoutout to Boots Riley of The Coup who went on to become a great director. Peep the Sorry To Bother You movie if you haven’t already

My sentiments exactly. It was lacking someTHiNG.
Maybe that was my expectations knowing the type of music PR has produced. But still a solid album.
It's still in the same vein that Common has been on so this is like Beautiful Struggle over PR production I guess.

Much love but keep listening to the album. Definitely more like a 9 or 10 out of 10 and I like some album songs like Stellar more than the singles. A God There Is is a favorite of mine too.
