Didn't know about that radio, love it. Took me 20 years to realize my cobra 29 nw lite up at night because I keep dimmer on low.it comes on when turned up.
I was looking at your dog, and laughing when I looked at his bottom lip. Some people don't even know that dogs have lips. I used to use that for my CB handle "Doglips"
Great video. Just ordered the same radio and antenna from the same shop you bought yours at (Walcott radio) and paid for the peak and tube job as well. I bought this radio because of the hi power you can get out of it and it’ll fit up inside the overhead. Walcott was very thorough with all the questions I had about it where other shops I talked to didn’t wanna waste their time on the phone with you. I figured if I’m putting out $500 of my pocket ( for the radio , road devil mic , and the Stryker antenna) the least they can do is give me 10 minutes on the phone to make me feel like I’m buying the right radio and equipment from the right shop. Can’t wait to get it and hook it up now. Thank you for the video, it showed me a little about the radio that I would’ve probably had to read up on. I have one question for ya if you have the time. Is the SWR meter on the radio pretty accurate or should I use my astatic SWR meter when installing and matching up the antenna?
I was curious about that too. When initially installing, I tried both to compare. And the radio’s SWR meter was right on with my astatic meter. I live that feature that when I key up, it shows in the digital display
@@ClutchTrucker thanks man for your time. I usually throw the astatic SWR meter on when hooking my radio up to calibrate my antenna just for the fact I know that meter is a true reading and sometimes the ones on radios ain’t that accurate .
Most of the guys who DO have their radios on tend to ignore "Breaker Breaker" or "Break 19" requests for some reason. But if you ask something such as "Does this dump have showers?" or "Damn, look at that..!!" will usually get a reply. Make sure your 447 has plenty of air circulating around the heat sink on the back of it. I ran 4 1/2 foot Francis antennas for years on 26.805 at Roadway, but I now run a Browning antenna. Looks like a mini Monkey Made, stainless and aluminum. I'm usually on 19, but do occasionally go down to the lower channels to see if anyone's there. My receive was noticeably better as soon as I installed the Browning....single, not co-phased. Less potential signal loss, fewer connections in the line.
The light in your faceplate already burning out on the band select 😮. I have a back lit Cobra that did that. It looks good, but not a big fan of backlighting for that reason. I prefer the President brand, run a Lincoln II+ with the new Digimike.
From what I understand and have read. The 447 on the CB side will run 15 watts. When you go to the 'ham' side that's when you'll get the true 75 watts.
@@ClutchTrucker I think they clip some resistors to get the high power on CB channels, its not legal from what I understand. Got my eye on that radio but if I get one I will not modify or pay for special tuning.
Not sure why you didn't just get the SR497HPC it's the same radio, but upgraded and has 5 finals @90-100watts barefoot. You just have to convert it to 11meters. Never heard of the SR947 must be an older model the SR655 and SR955 are wider but I thought the were the same size as a Cobra 29LTD not sure though. I turn my squelch down so I don't get all that noise and if there's too much chatter I turn that thing way down. I didn't want to hear all the nonsense, but you need a good radio. Not sure how it is now, but people are using GMRS and FM now too.
I’ve heard that a lot of people really like Browning and I’ve also heard a lot of people are very loyal to the monkey made but I haven’t tried either one of those
@@ClutchTrucker The Browning is smaller than Monkey Made. I got mine at Dub's when I ran St Louis/Springfield MO out of Columbus with Roadway. Dubs is located at exit 154, on I-70 in Illinois.
First thing I would look at it to make sure your antennas are hooked up correctly it should have the option and you were channel display to show your SWR if that’s not working my next suggestion would be you need to take it to a CB shop
@@ClutchTrucker I had a buddy that thought it would be funny to run 5k from his base station through a beam antenna. After a few days of splashing the local public access cable the vans showed up at his house. Lol
Good review, I am running same 447 radio & enjoy it so far.
Didn't know about that radio, love it. Took me 20 years to realize my cobra 29 nw lite up at night because I keep dimmer on low.it comes on when turned up.
I find cb's especially useful in the winter times in the northwest. Wouldn't drive without one
Me either. Unfortunately most drivers anymore don’t use them.
dang you have an excellent antenna reflect! Great review, I agree with every thing you said.
Loved seeing your fan club!!!
Another great video Clutch. I'm hooked on your videos and I don't even live in the USA or drive a truck. It must be your star quality!
Aw shucks
Just got my brand new Galaxy 979f and antenna via FedEx yesterday and can't wait to put it in the truck tomorrow.
Awesome
Great video , just bought this radio I’ve been running a connex but I think I’m gonna like this lil radio
Great radio
How is this radio working for you 3 years later? I just ordered one yesterday I'm excited to have a nice radio finally
Still love my stryker!
I was looking at your dog, and laughing when I looked at his bottom lip. Some people don't even know that dogs have lips. I used to use that for my CB handle "Doglips"
Love it!
Thanks so much for doing the video. I really appreciate it. Very informative and I am glad I now know which way to go with a CB.
Glad I could help
Picked up my peaked and tuned Stryker yesterday. Just what I was looking for. Thanks again
Cool. Glad u like it
Right off the bat. 2 Republicans and 2 democrats. 😅 Nice video.
I'm liking that radio alot, can you use the truck power in the cubby or have to the battery? Also how was walcott to deal with?
Truck power in cubby rubs it just fine
My radio is a SR 955HP Stryker, Same as yours but has an led meter and side band Clutch.
Yes. And it sounds awesome
Isn’t that radio you have there larger in size ?

Usually a single antenna system does perform better. I’m real happy with the receive on the Stryker antennas
Wow, that radio has a very high noise floor.

I do like the Lincolns

The way this one was picked in tune from Walcott radio it puts out a true 80 W of swing on regular CB

I'd love to see a nation wide movement to GMRS UHF. Or allow FM on the 27MHz
Interesting
Fcc has now officially opened fm for 11 meter
I have the same set up but my set is terrible. I think the antenna needs better ground?
Antennas can kill any good radio

Those are 2 totally different radios. 🤦♂️
How so?@@BigJesse579

Turn your rf gain all the way up and leave it
That's the problem out here no communication anymore very little.
Yes I wish more people would run their cb’s it would sure be helpful
Standard CB's are FOUR watts, not 3.
where is uncle charlie when we need him?
😂
Does that radio have to be converted to a 11 meter radio or can you use as is out the box?
It needs to be converted. Walcott radio did it right then. I think it was an extra $30
I'm having a hard time getting my SWR lower than 2.5. It goes from 1.8 to 2.5. What is the problem
Usually it’s the coax
Did you have to do anything special when You hooked this up..I Bought one but no one can hear me and I can't hear anybody..
First thing I would look at it to make sure your antennas are hooked up correctly it should have the option and you were channel display to show your SWR if that’s not working my next suggestion would be you need to take it to a CB shop
My old radio works in the truck just wanted to update to something better..looks like warranty work..thx for your time..
No problem. I hope it works out for you.
What is the 1.3 when you key mic?
It’s telling you your antenna tuning. You want to be as close to a 1 as possible. A 1.3 is very good
Disclaimer: This radio is maximum 4 watts per fcc regulation.
That’s why you must get a 10 meter radio if u want more power.
@@ClutchTrucker yes but 4 watts is all you can legally run on am. That is actually an export radio but it has variable power. Hint hint ......
Worked in radio for over 20 years. And I know that technically it’s illegal above 4 watts. But.......
