You were apologizing at the end for rambling which, maybe for video editing's sake, you prefer not to do. But if you try to not ramble for the sake of the audience I have to disagree! I might be in the minority but I find the little spots of repeating yourself and throwing in extra examples to be really helpful!

I know you're probably trying not to freak people out, but there is a lot more to it than 'learn to code'. Picking a lane and a set of relevant tools increases your chances a lot. Corporate web developer? .Net core, IIS, Visual Studio, C#, Javascript/CSS/HTML. Data Engineer? SQL, Python, AWS, NoSQL, Hadoop. Etc. Always good to know GIT, ticketing systems, diagramming, and documentation. Learn popular frameworks, libraries, and IDEs within your lane.

The part I'm struggling with is step 2. Learning to code. This is a MASSIVE step chunked down to 3 words. What do I learn? A programming language, obviously. But what else? Do I need to learn about anything else like mysql databases? API Frameworks? HTML/CSS? How many languages? How proficient should I be in them? Is it better to master one language or be semi-proficient in multiple?
It's frustrating when people say "learn to code" because it's so incredibly vague.

I started my interest in computer as a child, around 8 years old. I was fascinated by games. Specifically multi-player games that connected people across borders like World of Warcraft. I took apart the computer and put it back together. Albeit it took me a couple weeks to figure it out fully, I did it. From there, I played games obsessively until 15-16 trying to fully understand how they worked. Then I figured out you could develop games for a living as I was playing Minecraft and found and installed a mod called ComputerCraft. Within that mod you could program these robots and computer interfaces with LUA. I was OBSESSED. Coding took me to a different world of creativity. Fast forward 2 years of constant self teaching of numerous languages, I finished my associates degree at 18 in business management (all electives being in Comp Sci or Programming), then I take a few years to get myself established on my own and take a management job for a secondary passion, wellness, and now finally at 21 I'm hoping to get into a fast track program like Flat Iron's Software Engineering OR UI/UX Design courses and start with one to work my way into a Full Stack developer or wherever that skillset takes me in the field. Any other recommendations are more than welcome, this one just seems the most intriguing to me based on their length and career placement track record.
    P. S. Thank you for your videos, and anyone who took the time to read this. Not sure why, but this inspired me to tell the world about my journey. Hoping it sparks someone else to jump in if they're on the edge of trying the field I guess.

I have heard two trains of thought on deciding on what to actually learn. First is like you said, find something and go deep on it. Second, identify the companies in your area that you would like to work for. Find out what software stack they use, and go learn that. If you go deep into MongoDB and it turns out all the companies in your area use SQL, your kinda screwed and have to now go learn SQL. Something like that could be what is preventing an interview. As per the video, the gatekeeper is the non-techie HR person.

This is my biggest dilemma in life... In my high school and in my college, I studied life sciences... I spent like a tonne of time trying to study something which I didn't know wasn't for me... When out of college, most of the job offers I had were of teachers or professors... And my personality is just not of the type to accept such a job... It was at that time when I got really interested in programming... It was something that I felt spoke to me ... But this realization hit late... I'm already 25 and I constantly feel I'm too old to intern into a software company... Or to work on an intern project... Or anything else related to internship, that's really crucial in programming jobs.
So, after a really huge rant, my question is, am I really too old to pursue programming at the age of 25 or is it okay?

Do you think it’s possible to make the transition from data analytics to software engineering? I majored in economics with an emphasis in quantitative analysis in college/learned data analytics related coding through various online camps and have been working in the field of data analytics for the past year. While I do enjoy the job I’m not quite sure it is what I want to spend the rest of my life doing. With the right amount of ambition do you think it’s possible to make this transition considering I am not a computer science major and lack software engineering experience?

Maybe it's not for you. Or maybe you forgot why you started. Was it to get a job? Was it to just be able to build fun things on your own? If you're unsure, maybe you should focus that energy on something else that interests you. Just my 2 cents.

@@sherkhan_5050 I'm really not sure. Just be sure to take care of your personal setbacks first. Coding can wait. Otherwise, just keep improving and working on the things you like.

@@sherkhan_5050 It's easy to lose that initial excitement of learning how to code. Things are a lot more complicated than you think they are and the learning process can take a long time. If the thought of coding is so terrible that you can't bear to open up a text editor and write a few lines of code, then you might want to take a break and do something else in the meantime. However, if you're just not feeling overly excited, then you're probably still ok. Make some time to practice every day to work on improving your knowledge or something that interests you. Do this enough times, and one day, you'll have the skills to do what you need. So when you get that exciting idea, you'll be able to implement it.

Omg programming its not just sitting down and code! Its a way a person thinks.
I am a CIO for over 40 yrs, when I interview coders I ask them very simple questions I ask them to flowchart and design something simple. I want to see how he/she thinks.
I am fluent in over 13 languages and personally wrote over 250,000 lines of code. I want my team to tell me WHY they are using a particular language. I know why, but do they? NOTHING gets coded without good design and flowchart that get reviewed by your peers. I will ask constant "what if" questions to see what your response is.
And NEVER would I ever want to see you waste time. If you have down time (we all do) I expect you to learn something new and constantly re_develop yourself.

I'm in first of computing at uni and finding programming quite hard. I have programmed before in visual basic but Java is pretty different and getting my head around classes and oop is pretty hard. Is it normal to find everything really confusing? We have been set assignments and I'm struggling to get through them. Do you have any advice on this?

It can be pretty difficult to wrap your head around OOP at first, because it is a pretty abstract set of ideas, but keep at it and you'll get better. Try to read different interpretations/definitions of core OOP principles and find one or two that make sense to you. Looking through a lot of examples also helps. Maybe find an example in a book or on the internet, think through how you would do it without looking at implementation and then compare your thoughts with what the author wrote. Then try to figure out what you did differently and why.

This will probably sound silly to any developers who read this but why go through all the hassle of writing the code to build a new website when you can use a web builder? Or are web builders still not advanced enough to cater to most businesses needs? I would've thought thought with the plug-ins etc, that most web builders would suffice when it comes to building sites for anybody.
