Christmas Cactus has the scientific name Zygocactus truncates, although it is commonly known as orchid, although this plant belongs to the Cactus family. This is an ornamental plant that is native to tropical countries in South America, such as Brazil. Later, this plant is gradually famous and very popular around the world thanks to its beautiful and unique design.
Features Christmas Cactus
Christmas Cactus is a species of tree in the Cactus family, with a stout, succulent trunk that can turn wood when planted as a perennial. The tree grows in small bushes, average height from 50-70cm. The stem is quite soft, divided into many small segments, the edge is serrated, the leaves develop gradually and turn into sharp spines like many other cactus varieties.
The branches of the Christmas Cactus tree grow quite quickly and spread evenly in different directions. The plant's flowers come in a variety of vibrant colors such as red, purple, yellow, white or orange. Flowers are most likely to produce fruit after a period of blooming, the fruit of the tree is spherical, small, red. Normally, the Christmas Cactus flower season blooms from May to the end of September before the weather turns cold.
Uses of Christmas Cactus in life:
Due to its unique and eye-catching beauty, this plant has many interesting features in life as follows:
Making ornamental plants in the room, in the home garden helps to beautify and highlight the landscape and space where you live.
Trees can very well absorb CO2, which are toxic gases that are harmful to human health. As a result, the air in your home becomes cleaner.
Christmas Cactus can also be chosen as a meaningful gift for friends and relatives on special occasions such as birthdays, grand openings, housewarming greetings, etc.
How to plant and care for Christmas Cactus
* Planting method:
Normally, Christmas Cactus is usually grown by two main methods, which are cuttings or grafting.
* With cuttings: Cut a few segments from the stem of a healthy mother plant, let it dry in the natural environment for 1-2 days, and then put the cuttings in a pot to plant. Then water and care as usual so that the branches quickly grow new roots and grow.
* With tree grafting: Usually Christmas Cactus will be grafted into Cactus because they are related to each other. Select small, flat and thin orchid branches, then plug into the rootstock with a depth of 2-3cm. Then you use a plastic sheet or food wrap to cover it. Place the potted cactus in a cool place, water regularly but absolutely do not water the grafted site.
* Selection of planting land
Soils for growing Christmas Cactus should be soils with a lot of nutrients and high porosity. Soil needs to be slightly acidic, pH in the range of 5-6. At the same time, the soil needs to be very well drained. In addition, we can also mix coconut fiber, rice husk, and charcoal into the soil to improve moisture retention as well as increase nutrition when growing plants.
*Light, temperature

Christmas Cactus is a semi-light-loving plant, so you must place them in a shaded and airy place, so that the tree can still receive natural light but not too harsh. The ideal temperature to grow plants and help plants grow best is between 15-25 degrees Celsius, if too cold or too hot will make it difficult for the plant to flower.
* Humidity
Christmas Cactus plants are moderately moisture-loving, so just make sure your soil has a minimum moisture content of 40-60%. It is not necessary to overwater the plants.
* Fertilization
To help plants grow well and bloom beautifully, you must apply organic fertilizers or NPK fertilizers in the form of diluted in water to periodically water the plants every 15 days. It is best to alternately apply these 2 fertilizers to help the plants grow best.

Très belle plante une facilité de réaliser des boutures en prenant juste quelques brins de cette plante de les mettre en terre juste humidifier la terre attendre que ses boutures prennent racine patience une fois des racines les planter dans un au pot attendre que les fleurs soient voyantes. Thank you for these video… I had a beautiful Christmas cactus. It was full and cascading. A friend of mine took it and transplanted it cutting some long roots. Then she lifted all the leaves and tied. Needless to say the leaves started to fall off. I salvaged some and planted like you did in July….but no luck they are still the same size from when I planted them. I think I’m going to take them out of the soil and start over with your instructions. Wish me luck 🍀🪴

You don't need to drill holes for the green pot, as it will help you create moisture at the bottom of the pot, so the plant will take root sooner. You don't have to water too much, just just enough moisture

@@user-yp6me7fw8r Вот вот, так всё у них легко - прямо листочек ставят и тут же корни. Обрежут все корни, ставят в воду и тут же целый пучок корней. Всё это ерунда - с гниёт всё сразу. Ничему не верю. Уже всё перепробовала, ерунда.

Interesting. I'm wondering, though, why you didn't just start the new plants in the final display container? As it seems you're using the same soil. Wouldn't it be less disruptive for the plants to just be left in situ?

You'll note there were A LOT LESS clippings in the "starting" pot.
You have to factor in - with all clippings of any species - some just don't root, by rot.
I was told, like cactus, not to put the clippings in soil for 48 hrs.
Because they like to be root bound. If you start them in a large container they usually rot. This is a Thanksgiving catus not a Christmas catus.
@@wendyking4014 that helps me a lot. I never knew they like to be pot bound. BTW there are , at least, three types of the plants called Christmas cacti : Christmass; Easter and Thanks giving ( USA)
Each of these plants have different leaf shapes. I believe keeping the plants in the dark for 3 months causes them to flower any time of the year ( Viz. Flowers after the 3 months)
@@sparkfishes You can also put clades in a zip lock bag and seal it. They will root. Don't add water In the bag as they will rot.

Usé tierra, fertilizante orgánico (estiércol seco de vaca), un poco de riego. Propietario regado una vez cada 2 semanas
