tbf, her army was decently balanced, with elephants as the main force, backed up by siege units, and some archers for versatility and range.
And in the end "more stuff beats less stuff" - so the other teams' main mistake was allowing her to build up for that long.

Seriously. Kiara clearly didn't understand how easily trebuchets can shred an undefended castle, and castles are NOT cheap to build. They use tons of stone to make, which is also one of the harder resources to get in the late-game.

I find it funny how Fauna was just playing casually while Kiara and Reine thought she was being sweaty and meta-gaming. Kiara even said that next time they can't use chat for help, thinking they were directing Fauna's victory when in reality they were just teaching her how to play the game and spamming Fauna Sweep.
Saplings were really 200iq since low elo metagame would be spamming effective units and not worrying about the deets.
Theres a reason why tanky units / heroes are top winrates in low elo almost in every game, they dont know how to deal with it.

I was listening to this stream while on my way to grab a couple of drinks with a friend so I missed the second half, but the moment I noticed she got so deep into gaming kirin mode that there were no tangents or engaging anecdotes, only discussion of what was currently happening in game, I just knew things were going to get ugly for everyone else.

Even though her movement orders were messy, she was actually really on the ball with the army production.
Poor Anya, she is the bloodthirsty one while Fauna felt like that one person who kept bumping into every vase in the shop accidentally yet somehow managing to burn down the shop as well. It was an adorable rampage.

This was crazy to watch, especially from all perspectives. Anya was just along for the ride while Fauna went from 0 to Hannibal crossing the Alps and opened a can of whoopass across the landscape. Gotta tip my hat to Kiara as well, she performed admirably in the early game and made a valiant stand against Fauna's doomstack. Hope to see them do another match soon.

I kinda understood why Kiara started fighting early given how newbies(like me) tend to either rush early or go full econ and spam end game units
from my extensive RTS game meta knowledge I would instictively make a harrasser squad made up of horse archers or something simiar to kill villagers and farmers to disrupt their economy, I dont know if this is the same for AOE 2019..

@ricekeks She attacked too soon. She didn't have the systems to support the large army and kept pissing away units piecemeal. Kronii kept it together longer but didn't have enough defenses up before making herself everyone's number one target.
Fun fact: If Moona save her mangonels not throwing them off? she can counter Kiara attack with easy.
Moona was aggressive. But not enough. Fauna slow strat building is a win.

Not a duo I would have expected but they are great.
Was fun to listen to them, but also very funny at times. 10 minutes into the game Anya was asking how to make her new villagers gather stuff.
Fauna actually barely read chat the entire stream. She mostly just consulted them about game mechanics and stuff. Most of Fauna's chat was just memeing about going to war with everyone.
The only reason why she pushed into Reine's base was because she thought Reine was attacking her by placing that castle there.
Chat is mostly just more elephants anyways, pretty much the only suggestion she got from chat is needing siege weapons, where she built a siege workshop and not use it since the superior siege weapon was built in the castle
She thought correctly in normal circumstances. You wouldn't build a forward castle like that without being ready to attack
She was right too. Forward castles are war in aoe.
And in Fauna's POV she know nothing about what Kronii & Moona doing, she doesn't know the result of destroying Kronii's wonder is Kronii left her kingdom.
She just minding her lost elephants & destroying random castles that appeared near her kingdom.
Reine's kingdom is the closest and then Kiara, then Kronii, then Moona. She only attacks based on the closest one.

Since I saw some people are talking about "Dang those Elephants are so OP", I would like to add some context from the actual competitive scene of AoE2 (yes, AoE2 is actually having a second golden age and has a great competitive scene nowadays):
1. Persian War Elephant is stupidly strong, but it's also stupidly expensive. It's basically almost never used competitively in 1 vs 1 thanks to this and the fact that it being countered by the cheapest unit in the game (swarms of pikes) AND can be stolen by Monk and you can't really do anything about that counter. Fauna managed to trample everything because her opponents let her built them to the number where even their counter (halberdiers/pikes) can't really counter them anymore thanks to Elephant's trample (splash) damage.
2. Another reason why this strategy work is that Fauna is the only player here who managed to built an actual economy that could support massive army and invested enough in trade. Kiara and Reine did some trade to lesser degree, but they often forget to build reinceforcements and organize their economy while they are busy attacking -- Fauna most of the time keep looking back at her base to keep building more units so once she went with pressure everyone have no time to rebuilt army.
3. Last important detail: The biggest weakness of every single casual AoE players is that every begginer never thought of building multiple production buildings (e.g Barracks) to make units -- this applies to everyone here. However, Kiara and Fauna could spam their unique units because they happened to make multiple castles for defense and area control purpose, enabling them to actually utilize their resources to fight (Kiara's TTK sadly just got countered by Elephants).
On the other hand, Halberdiers/Pikes are SUPER cheap and don't require gold -- they could easily outnumber and counter Elephants. The problem is that thanks to the fact that they almost never intentionally make multiple production buildings to build units, they are never pumped in enough numbers to counter the number of Elephants that happend to be pumped from multiple Castles. You can't compete against three castles with just one barrack!
Very good explanation. I like that. However, keep in mind if they're just playing for fun. They're just entertainer after all, not a pro or competitive player. So it's normal if they don't think too much like that
Of course in RTS game like this, everything must be planned with so many details, but once again, they just want to entertain us, not become a champion or something else

@@dinaryunus9131 Oh, I'm actually not writing this for them. This is for most clip viewers who might (or might not) have some familiarity with the game but not for how the actual metagame work.
None of this text is written as criticism (or even suggestion) to any of the girls (if any of them read this though, hi!), but just to provide more technical information on how Fauna ended up as a victor in this particular friendly match. AoE2 possibly has the most very friendly RTS game out there due to a very welcoming community and some AoE2 casters like T90 actually have regular contents where they are showcasing interesting matches from low ELO players since a lot of them are actually very fun! (some might even enjoy these level of matches more compared to the actual competitive level)
In other words, you can take this as "here's a more in-depth insight of the game! If you're interested in more, maybe you can try to play the game since AoE2 is actually a fantastic RTS game with currently very active matchmaking for both beginners and experts alike!"
Really appreciate this comment, it helps explain why Fauna managed to gather and sustain such momentum towards the end.
Yeah, and if you're at the pop cap (200) you basically have the same amount of units. Even if halbs countered elephants (due to eco) 100halbs could never win against 100 elephants

Either you have big resource bonus or good defensive perk to compensate
Yea, Kronii had too few defences, and Kiara started castle-dropping right outside. The fatal error was the hole in her wall created by her own villagers chopping the wrong tree down. After that, it went downhill from there.
@@meferswiftwonder is usually for anti stalling, if both sides focussed too much on defending that attacking become too costly, wonder can break the stalemate by forcing the other player to attack with a time limit

I personally don't like doing wonder because rarely i get at the point where i can afford wonder and maxed army

Fauna and her fauna, at least this story have a decent ending. Remember what happened to her zoo? Its kinda amazing that she kept Anya alive too. Reine thought someone snitched, but actually it was Fauna's gamer sense doing work.

Reine and Kiara were building a castle within sight of faunas walls and in every space spot of no mans land. of course there was going to be a response to prevent one team having 60% map control via “turrets”.
Kiara and reine just destroyed anya's base, had to avenge her comrade😂😂
@@laplace8461 they would have won if they had attacked Fauna's instead, at the time Fauna's troops weren't organized and Anya wouldn't have been able to save Fauna, the attack at Anya's base gave Fauna the time she needed to organize her army and launch the counter attack, also if Anya had stopped the caravans from moving she would had held more since that's what screwed her.

Nah, she didn't randomly attack anyone except debatably Kronii. They kept throwing castles up next to her which is basically a declaration of war. Eventually she just went on a counter offensive since they kept attacking her.
I watched the entire stream and honestly Fauna is just built different when it comes to competitive games, she was just snowballing while Kiara fought Kronii

Getting the different viewpoints stitched together makes me better understand the dangers of having jumpy border guards. The first half was a series of both sides being surprised that they were under attack by the other and certain the other shot first, and it would turn into all-out war as they read intent to escalate into each other that didn’t exist.

Kiara started off pretty strong. If she and Reine had gone after Fauna instead of Anya after interrupting Kronii's Wonder attempt she might have even had a chance to win, but after all the fighting (and by not constantly replacing her units as they were getting killed like Fauna was), her forces were too weak to put up a defense against Fauna's counterattack, and by then she had mentally checked out as well.
I actually think if Fauna hadn't built those camel riders she might have fallen, because they are strong against the Kiara's horses that were coming to break her siege weapons.

Poor Kiara actually did really well that game too. Her practice stream really paid off.
But against Persian war elephants those Teuton knights and castles might as well be just be made of tissue paper. She did try monks for a bit but by then it was too little too late.
Teutonic Knights are kind of misleading: people treat them as Super Champions, but they're more like an inverted Battering Ram with an all-rounder attack.
